Suits has now become one of the most-watched TV shows on Netflix with over 3.14 billion minutes of watch time surpassing the fantasy drama Manifest. The USA Network legal drama had everything working for it when it came out on the streaming service including brilliant characters, thrilling storylines, a genius blend of comedy and drama, and last but certainly not least Meghan Markle.
Now, that we know what kind of success a good television drama can achieve on Netflix, we are faced with another question and that is if a show with all the good qualities that Suits had minus Meghan Markle, comes out on Netflix will it enjoy the same fate as the legal drama or not. So, let’s find out.

Avatar: The Last Airbender made quite the entrance on Netflix.
The live-action adaptation debuted on February 22 and, in just a four days of availability, it racked up 2.56B viewing minutes. Usually, that would easily place it in the top spot on the Nielsen streaming charts, but it just so happens that another Netflix original came in a close second.
Love Is Blind courted 2.41B viewing minutes during the February 19 to 25 interval, as three new Season 6 episodes became available. According to Nielsen, these new episodes generated nearly 1B viewing minutes on their own, while the entirety of Season 6 accounted for about 92% of the week’s viewing.
This is the first time in more than a year that two titles have exceeded 2B minutes viewed in the same week, and the last time it happened was with Manifest and The Crown — both of which had more than 50 episodes to lean on.

Listen up fives — and by that I mean fours. “Girls5eva” is now streaming on Netflix and you’ve run out of excuses. This heightened, hilarious series from “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” writer Meredith Scardino is exactly the kind of bingeable romp that Netflix users allegedly crave, so why aren’t you watching, rewatching, and recommending?
The title “Girls5eva” refers to a fictitious girl group from the late-90s and early-aughts, as well as their breakout song (cause 4eva‘s too short!): Dawn (Sara Bareilles), Summer (Busy Phillips), Gloria (Paula Pell), and Wickie (Renée Elise Goldsberry). The group disbanded after fifth member Ashley (Ashley Park) drowned in an infinity pool, but 20 years later they’re making a comeback.
There was a time when “Girls5eva” would have been a surefire hit. It’s executive produced by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the team behind “30 Rock” and “Kimmy Schmidt,” the latter of...

Before Netflix started decimating its production teams, and canceling every show, it was once the land of second opportunities. The streaming platform not only produced great shows, but also offered a place where underappreciated and underseen titles could finally find an audience. In the case of TV shows, some even got a chance to finish their stories. "Breaking Bad" became a global hit thanks to people being able to binge on Netflix, and "Arrested Development" was brought back to life almost a decade after being canceled, as were "Lucifer" and "Manifest."
Sadly, the streamer doesn't seem to be in the business of reviving titles anymore, and Netflix originals often get scant promotion and slip under the radar. And yet, the platform does still provide a platform for underappreciated titles to find a larger audience even years after their initial release. Case in point: the sudden resurgence in popularity of "The Book of Life,...

Well, this one's a true shocker.
Max has made the shocking decision to cancel Warrior.
The decision comes months after Warrior Season 3 wrapped on the streaming service.
Max rarely releases viewership statistics like many other streaming services, so it's difficult to assess how well the show performed.
The only good news to come from the cancellation is that Netflix has picked up the rights to past episodes of the series.
Deadline first reported the news, revealing that the show is set to hit Netflix in February 2024.
If the show proves to be a success with the service's subscribers, it could lead to additional seasons being produced.
Netflix has picked up many canceled shows in the past, including Cobra Kai, Longmire, and Manifest, so the company could be seen as a decent destination to get fresh episodes.
If the series does secure a reprieve at Netflix, it would mark its third U.

Netflix released a huge amount of streaming data Tuesday — viewing totals for more than 18,000 movies and seasons of TV for the first half of 2023.
Taken as a whole, it’s almost an overwhelming amount of information that speaks to Netflix’s ability to engage its huge subscriber base (just under 239 million for the end of the period covered in the data dump) — and maybe not a ton more? The stats presented are for total hours viewed, which is how Netflix measures engagement across its portfolio — but it’s also not the metric the streamer uses to order its weekly top 10 lists. For those, it uses the “view” formula of total watch time divided by running time, which somewhat levels the playing field for films and series with shorter run times. (And there are, of course, economic factors and other metrics that influence decision-making that the company will continue to keep in house.

Exclusive: Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amazon MGM Studios and NBCUniversal have come aboard as sponsors of this year’s Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program. The Writers Guild Foundation initiative aims to provide TV writers who are Bipoc, Lgbtqia+, writers with disabilities, and writers over the age of 50, with tools, education and opportunity to become writers’ assistant and script coordinators in the industry.
The deal means that along with financial support, the companies will be considering this year’s program graduates and alumni for available staffing slots on their series.
The program, originally launched in 2021 by writers and producers Tanya Saracho (Vida), Mike Royce (One Day at a Time) and Liz Hsiao Lan Alper (Day of the Dead), features a 12-week course taught by instructors and script coordinators Debbie Ezer (The Good Doctor) and Clay Lapari (Community). Look out, Hollywood, Steven Spielberg’s daughter, Destry Allyn Spielberg, is making her feature directorial debut with one of the biggest badasses in the game, Giancarlo Esposito! According to Deadline, Esposito is joining Spielberg’s upcoming thriller, Please Don’t Feed the Children. The script hails from writer Paul Bertino, with Michelle Dockery, former NFL tight end Vernon Davis, Joshuah Melnick, Emma Meisel, Dean Scott Vazquez, Zoe Colletti, Regan Aliyah, and Andrew Liner making up the ensemble cast.
Pandemic-sensitive viewers beware: the plot for Please Don’t Feed the Children revolves around a group of orphans heading south, searching for a new life after a viral outbreak decimates their country’s adult population. Unfortunately, the new home is hard-fought, as danger lurks everywhere. Jason Dubin produces through Perry Street Films with Josh Kesselman and Michael Hagerty.

Netflix kicked off third-quarter earnings of 2023 ahead of its competitors, boasting strong income and subscriber growth. But there are significant questions about the worth of its vast content library and its role in driving growth in an increasingly competitive market.
Following the resolution of one part of Hollywood’s labor dispute, the film industry aims to resume production by the end of the year. Even if studios and actors settle soon, the disruption to original content will linger into 2024 due to the lengthy work stoppage. Along with spending cuts by companies, this has significantly reduced the number of new content releases in recent months.
Lower new content volume will put pressure on platforms to have higher hit rates, with successful titles helping to mask the decline in new programming. Netflix, however, showed its ability to dominate pop culture without even releasing a new show by licensing the USA Network original “Suits.

Ladies and gentlemen, billionaire and corporate agitator Nelson Peltz is back — and he’s again backed by former Marvel executive Ike Perlmutter. This time, Perlmutter is letting his own (substantial) shares of Disney do the talking — via Peltz’s Trian Fund Management.
Trian now has sole voting power over 33 million Disney shares, most of which come from Perlmutter. He became one of Disney’s largest independent shareholders when he sold Marvel to Disney in 2009 (he got a bunch of cash and stock and a job — but no board seat). Perlmutter believes the shares should be worth more than they are.
These days, Disney trades for about $80 per share; it neared $200 in March 2021. To address this inequity, Peltz and Perlmutter want Disney to cut spending, reduce executives’ salaries, and get some Trian folks on the Disney board. The two are pushing for “multiple” Disney board seats, the Wall Street Journal reported; one would be for Peltz.

Call it the “Suits” effect. After the gargantuan performance of the USA series following its debut on Netflix in July, the streamer signaled on Wednesday that it may be increasing its licensed content in the near future.
“As the competitive environment evolves, we may have increased opportunities to license more hit titles to complement our original programming,” Netflix said in its third quarter earnings statement. “We believe this will deliver additional value for our members, as well as for rights holders who benefit from the increased awareness and revenue that Netflix delivers, in addition to the new life that success on Netflix can drive.”
The streamer cited “Friends” and “The Office” — two titles it no longer holds the license to — as other examples of licensed shows that drive success on Netflix.

When Paramount+ swung the axe on Star Trek: Prodigy earlier this year, fans were left questioning whether the completed episodes would ever air.
The Star Trek franchise is popular around the globe, so the very notion that any project would be scrapped with episodes in the can is surprising.
Thankfully for Star Trek: Prodigy fans, we have some good news to report.
Netflix has stepped in to save the day, announcing that Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 will stream later this year.
Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2, which was in production when Paramount+ canceled the series, will debut in 2024.
"Thank you to our incredible 'Star Trek: Prodigy' fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that's always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together," said executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman of the save.

“Suits” has broken yet another record for Nielsen. Not only is it the twice-over most-streamed acquired program, the USA legal drama has now spent more time as No. 1 on Nielsen’s top 10 streaming programs list than any other title.
During the week of Sept. 4 to 10, “Suits” ranked No. 1 yet again on the market measurement firm’s top 10 list. The streaming programs list, which Nielsen first started reporting in 2020, tallies total minutes viewed across all streaming platforms. Between Netflix and Peacock, viewership for “Suits” hit the 2.359 billion minute mark.
The legal drama has now topped the top 10 streaming programs list for 12 weeks, the most of any title. The previous title to hold this record was Netflix’s “Ozark,” which occupied the No. 1 spot for 11 weeks. “You” and “Stranger Things” are also on the list,...

Quantum Leap wouldn’t be Quantum Leap without Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) jumping into other people’s bodies in various time periods. So, you guessed it, things didn’t go as planned after that Season 1 cliffhanger of the revival of the 1989-1993 series (which starred Scott Bakula) when his team — Addison (Caitlin Bassett), Ian (Mason Alexander Park), Jenn (Nanrisa Lee) and Magic (Ernie Hudson) — were left waiting for Ben to finally come home. Alas, we’ll find out what happened in the October 4 Season 2 premiere when we find Ben on a plane that crash-lands in 1978 Russia (the episode guest stars Manifest‘s Melissa Roxburgh). “We’ve opened up the world” for Season 2, says executive producer and director Chris Grismer. Valiant Ben investigates the Salem Witch Trials in 1692, UFOs in 1949 New Mexico, the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and “Hitchcockian” goings-on in a 1961-set hour that was actually filmed in Egypt. With the recent cancellation of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” after just two seasons, HBO has left the Los Angeles Lakers off on a historic loss. “Winning Time” Season 1 ended with the Lakers’ 1980 NBA Championship; Season 2 zoomed through their 1982 win and ended (now awkwardly) with the team’s crushing ’84 loss to the Boston Celtics.
And that will be that for “Winning Time” — there will be no rematch with the Celtics in ’85, which is when the Lakers finally defeated their rivals in the NBA Finals. There will be no repeat result in ’87 (the Celts defeated the Houston Rockets to win again in 1986), when Magic Johnson won the rubber series against Larry Bird. And there will definitely be no coup de grace in 1988, which cemented the Lakers as the team of the ’80s.
It’s an unfitting end to a good series (with an excellent theme song) with impressive casting,...

The Quantum Leap project has been kept well under wraps ... until now.
NBC shared the official trailer for Quantum Leap Season 2 on Monday, and it teases Ben filling in someone about his time-traveling job.
In the new footage, Ben tells Hannah (played by The 100's Eliza Taylor) all about it.
As previously reported, Taylor is one of two new series regulars this season, so we're inclined to believe Ben and Hannah will be spending a lot of time together.
Peter Gadiot is the other new addition as US Army Officer Tom Westfall.
The exciting new footage teases leaps to Egypt in 1961, the Los Angeles Riots in 1992 Koreatown, a UFO investigation in 1949 New Mexico, witch trials in 1692 Massachusetts, and more.
If you watch Quantum Leap online, you know the leaps keep the show fresh because they offer new locations and time periods for the characters.

The hottest streaming show of the summer is not a new and exciting series, but actually a 12-year-old legal drama that ended before the pandemic began. Indeed, "Suits" is the most popular show on streaming at the moment, breaking record after record. According to Nielsen (via Deadline), it has been streamed twice as much as the next title ("The Lincoln Lawyer").
This renewed interest in the USA Network show thanks to streaming has many new fans wondering just what happened to "Suits," why it ended after nine seasons, and whether there's a chance it could come back.
Well, for the first part, the answer is both simple and a bit complicated. The cast of the show was under a contract only until the end of season 7, after which both Patrick J. Season two of The Lincoln Lawyer got off to a strong start for Netflix in the streaming rankings — but another legal drama, Suits, remained a runaway No. 1.
The Lincoln Lawyer recorded 1.41 billion minutes of viewing for the week of July 3-9; the first half of its second season premiered July 6. The viewing time is an improvement of 59 percent over its series premiere week in May 2022 — when the show had 884 million minutes of viewing — and its second-highest tally ever on the Nielsen streaming chart.
It was also the top original series for the week, moving ahead of fellow Netflix series The Witcher. The fantasy drama had 1.19 billion minutes of viewing, down a modest 9 percent from 1.31 billion minutes a week earlier.
Suits, meanwhile, spent its third straight week at No. 1 and broke its own record for single-week viewing of an acquired series on the Nielsen charts. The former USA series, which streams on Netflix and Peacock,...

“Suits” just set a streaming record nearly four years after it aired its ninth and final season. Nielsen reports that the Meghan Markle-led drama, which aired on USA Network between 2011 and 2019, set a streaming record during the week of June 26 to July 2.
During that week, “Suits”, which began streaming on Netflix on June 17, had 3.14 billion minutes of watch time, setting the record for an acquired series. The record was previously held by “Manifest”, which had 2.49 billion watch minutes from June 14 to 20, 2021, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In addition to topping the viewership on the acquired shows list for the week in question, “Suits” also led the overall list. “The Witcher” came in second with 1.31 billion minutes of viewing, and “The Bear” rounded up the top three with 1.01 billion minutes.
Nielsen’s ratings only cover U.S. television vision viewing, not content viewed on a phone or tablet, or viewership in other countries.

As legal drama Suits breaks streaming records four years after the USA Network show ended, fans are now wondering if there’s a chance the Meghan Markle-starring series could return. According to Nielsen, Suits, which originally aired from 2011 to 2019 on the USA Network, has smashed Netflix‘s all-time streaming record, racking up 3.14 billion minutes watched during the week of June 26 to July 2, after it debuted on the streamer last month. And those numbers are likely higher when considering viewers outside the U.S. and those streaming on phones and tablets, which Nielsen excludes. The previous record was held by Manifest, the supernatural drama that was revived by Netflix after NBC canceled the show after three seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Manifest tallied up 2.49 billion minutes of watch time. Suits starred Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht as smooth-talking attorneys. The cast also included Rick Hoffman, Sarah Rafferty, Gina Torres,...
