"Paint Misbehaving" contains two likely references to the popular animation website Homestar Runner. First, Tilly serves Bill a glass of skim milk with gummi bears in it, a drink known as "sudzu" on Homestar Runner. Later, one of Cricket's doodles resembles a dragon with an arm growing out of its back, just like Trogdor, another Homestar Runner character. The creators of Homestar Runner, Matt and Mike Chapman, have worked on numerous Disney Channel series including 'Mickey Mouse,' 'Gravity Falls' and 'Two More Eggs.'
Although Cricket and Tilly work to save the farm in Family Legacy, it's technically Tilly who solves the riddles and gives out the answer to each of them. She's also the first who realizes the seemingly worthless treasure in the box are items from their ancestors and serves as a warning, and the first to let Gramma know about the tradition.
Moral for Paint Misbehavin': Cricket and Gloria learned it's best if they compromise.
Moral for Family Legacy: Gramma learned seemingly useless treasure has a meaning behind it.
Gramma is absent in "Paint Misbehavin'".
