The ballpark opened in 1929 as Red Wing Stadium and was known throughout the country as the "Taj Mahal" for its splendor.
Cal Ripken Jr. played baseball for the Rochester Red Wings at Silver Stadium.
Silver Stadium was demolished in 1998 as a new stadium located in Downtown Rochester was opened in 1997. The new stadium is known as Frontier Field, and continues the legacy of a world class minor league baseball venue to this day.
The final home game at Silver Stadium was in August of 1996.
Silver Stadium was originally named Red Wings Stadium, but was renamed to Silver Stadium following a community initiative to save minor league baseball in Rochester, NY led by Morrie Silver. The new stadium (Frontier Field) continues to pay homage to this legacy, being located on Morrie Silver Way in Downtown Rochester.
