An Unprecedented Start to a Masterpiece...
mefecig25 August 2021
After the American Horror Stories disaster, I was nervous that Ryan Murphy may ruin AHS as well; but contrary to my prejudice it was well-written and perfectly acted. It is nice to see all of the actors and actresses who I hoped to see in American Horror Stories appear in their new roles. They all played their lines perfectly to immerse the audience completely into the beginning of a whole new masterpiece. Both the directors and the cast is on fire and I am looking forward to watching the next episode.

There are also a number of references to the cult movie Cape Fear making the episode even more amazing. Ryan totally did it this time... It would have been nicer to see a few more aspects of horror tho

Also, the character of Finn Wittrock is absolutely amazing owing to the amazing performance by the actor. I am totally in love with it.

Macaulay Culkin steals the show
bosscain28 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Mac plays a gay transient male prostitute and it's hilarious. I've watched that scene over and over again and his manorisms are so nonchalant you'd think he's been doing this sort of thing his whole life. The rest of the show is kinda boring and the whole vampire theme is so campy but I've watched since the first episode and see where this season goes.

AHS is back
tcain-0216426 August 2021
After that god awful spin-off, AHS is back for more blood. I'll admit that I kinda had low expectations going into this considering the spin-off was unbelievably bad. Before watching it, I realized they actually brought back good actresses/actors from the past seasons instead of finding random people who can't act at all like they did in their previous poor attempt at good television.

But after a strong start to season 10, I'm intrigued. It has a good premise with that eerie and ominous feeling that AHS does so well. It also features interesting charactes that are brought to life by great actors. This...is the American Horror Story that us fans fell in love with. Keep it up!

10 years after sticking with this show I'm just glad the premiere episode of this season was nothing but perfect, the piano notes, the creepy beach town setting, LILY RABE.

exactly what i wanted

This was a great season opener. Everything about it I love. The music, the eeriness, the acting, the Cape Cod atmosphere. I'm so ready for the rest of the season and I hope the episodes to come are just as masterful as "Cape Fear"

Not a great start
dpoland-7658926 August 2021
Surprised by so many 10's. Such a fan of AHS so I really hope it improves. But, the story so far feels old. People experiencing scary events in a new place and inexplicably stay when there's no logical reason for them to do so. A little bored but will soldier on...

I'm speechless this two episodes was beyond amazing, cinematography, acting, special effects, location everything was so darker and gorgeous.

Two episodes were better than all horror films come out in 2021.

The acting IS this shows masterpiece
malin-svendsen-hofoss9 September 2021
Not sure if I love the new season yet. But I don't hate it. I'm intrigued to see where it goes.

However, the acting itself makes this a masterpiece.

Evan is an acting genius in this season no doubt!!! Lily Rabe. Conroy. Adina Porter. Frances Conroy. That kid from home alone (I cannot seem to be able to spell his name correctly but you know the one) all amazing!!! Not to forget Finn Wittrock. He rose above my expectations and stayed there.

So good to see Lily Rabe and Francis Conroy
gedikreverdi27 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's good to see Lily Rabe, Francis Conroy and all the other regulars and particularly Macaulay Culkin. Sarah Paulson is hysterically crying as usual. The town is really creepy. The father is having some writer's block and after he killed one of those vampire-looking man that broke into their house, they decided to move to another town.

The Animal Violence is Atrocious

Could have been so much better without the violence against animals. Just absolutely horrible, and upsetting.

Atmospheric and creepy!
ogntorius126 August 2021
There's a lot to like about this premier. It's good to see some of the regulars making an appearance. I also enjoyed seeing Macaulay Culkin and Sarah Paulson is unrecognizable! It's kinda giving me Wayward Pines vibes, but I think this season has potential. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this is going to play out.

Breath of fresh air from the last two seasons
kocol826 August 2021
It's so relieving seeing the OG greats Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Finn Wittrock, Frances Conroy, and Adina Porter back on TV. A breath of fresh air from teeny fan fiction that was the last 2 seasons + the disaster that was AHS Stories. This is what American HORROR Story should be.

AHS at it's best!
starchild-7306026 August 2021
After years of varying quality from this show (including the most recent disappointment of American Horror Stories), Ryan Murphy gives us one of the best and most promising openers of the entire show. Well-written with engaging characters, this episode has me excited to follow this season each week. The moody beach-side town gives off a chilling vibe and it's so great to see Lily Rabe and Finn Wittrock take lead this time around.

As usual, it starts sucking me in right away.

Warning: Spoilers
I've watched the 1st two so far but my hubby fell asleep so I was kind enough to wait for more.

It's off to a good start. The other positive reviews covered it very well.

A few things that struck me funny. The tone of the environment is veeeeeery bland, neutral and monochromatic. I'm quite sure it was purposeful but it makes me laugh because the home AND their wardrobes match the same color schemes as the beach/ocean palette. Shades of blue, gray, white and beige. You only get other colors (very vibrant in the restaurant) at other locations, well accept for the seaside unless there's a bloody corpse!!!

It tied into the fact Doris is re-doing the place in lieu of rent with her Instagram hobby of redecorating; one "like" on a project. She stated the reason she was fired from the last one was due to an argument because the client couldn't comprehend "monochromatic". My guess is when that house they are renting is done, you won't notice. Even Alma thought her swatches were the same color.

The other thing, and maybe it will change down the road, but I don't see that they are actually vampires. I understand that those black pills severely deplete 4 blood proteins so they must feed to replenish it. I'm assuming the gory way they feed is also a macabre side effect of the pills. I haven't seen any of the other stereotypical modalities of vampires.

TB Karen (Paulson) is a hoot. That woman can play anyone!!! The look fits the personality of a Karen. I'm not surprised that Macauley Culkin is very effective. It was too bad that Kathy Bates couldn't fulfill her part but Frances Conroy is so good.

I look forward to more.

The acting is great - as usual.
Llymercer26 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have loved most of the AHS series, so when I saw the promo for the new incarnation, I was excited to watch. WARNING: Spoilers.

The premise of this story is that a screenwriter and his family escape to Provincetown for a working vacation. On the first afternoon the pregnant wife and young daughter stroll through the cemetery - because who doesn't, ammi right? - and there they encounter a #zombie. They run home, but the zombie follows. Now the daughter complains that she sees the Zombie out her window at night and the wife is craving red meat. Then the writer takes a jog and finds dead bodies on the beach, but they still decide to stay in town. Because, of course, that's normal. Frankly it's all pretty heavy handed. Waiting for the aliens to show up was the only thing that kept me watching. And that's not a joke. Then the vampires appeared, and I took my leave. Sadly, I never got to meet the aliens.

#Sidebar, from now on I will ignore the #ratings on #IMDb. People were giving this 10 stars before the episode even started. Not OK.

Also, is it weird that all the zombies wear the same coat? Is there a Zombie #shoppingmall? Asking for a friend.

Welcome back AHS!
tarynkstilwell26 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For the first time since, like, season 5, AHS feels like it used to: dark, twisted, scary, sensual, gritty... and it has so many of the best cast members from each anthology (minus Queen Lange). Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate apocalypse, but seasons 6, 7, and 9 just felt so far from what made the first few seasons amazing...

Also, Evan Peters and Frances Conroy singing a duet of Islands in the Stream is perfection.

Warning: Spoilers
Is it possible that Ryan Murphy and Company have re-claimed the AHS magic of the first 2 glorious seasons Murder House and Asylum here in Season 10? We've got 8 more episodes to find out as the second episode aired the same night as this premiere episode CAPE FEAR and both were brilliant. I also seem to recall 1984 getting off to a smashing start only to flame out down the stretch. Also, unlike prior seasons where even though the narrative flipped at the midpoint but the entire season was still connected, we already know that Season 10 is split into two halves going in, the first 6 episodes set in this cape town/vampire story, with the last 4 episodes set in death valley with a focus on aliens. But at the end of the day, it's still a 10-episode season so that the overall quality of Season 10 will be defined by both it's first and second halves much like previous ones. But so far, the first half looks like a winner.

This premiere episode introduces the Gardner family to the AHS universe. Harry Gardner (excellently played by Finn Wittrock) is a struggling TV show writer who transports his wife Doris (superb Lily Rabe) and daughter Alma (child phenom Ryan Kiera Armstrong from IT2) from New York to a remote seaside New England community so he can focus on a script for the Pilot of a new series. Also, Doris has the arduous task of renovating the house that they leased for the winter. The Gardners are shown their new digs by the local realtor Martha (scene-stealing Robin Weigert).

On their first day in town, Harry runs into a collection of oddball and weirdos, including the town homeless person Tuberculosis Sally (the brilliant Sarah Paulson), the town gigolo Mickey (surprisingly good Macaulay Culkin), the ineffectual police chief (solid Adina Porter), and a duo of bourgeoisie authors Belle Noir (the great Frances Conroy) and Austin (the chameleonic Evan Peters). Plus, there are these scary looking pale creatures that terrorize the family and Harry ends up killing one after a home invasion on their second night.

The main plot of the episode involves Harry having writer's block and needing inspiration and he gets it from Austin in the form of mysterious black pills which he takes to motivate him to get the Pilot written. This magnificent premiere pays homage to iconic films such as The Shining, Nosferatu, and Interview with a Vampire as well as other works that I'm sure will get nods to as the season progresses. In addition to the great casting, the dialogue is very witty and snappy and the vibe is a perfect mix of horror and camp reminiscent of the iconic Murder House. Great start to hopefully a great season.
