Even worse than the previous episode.

I loved the Young Pope, and the New Pope's first episode was entertaining with all the hallmarks of the previous serious. It took a nosedive however with the second episode (Malovich's boring and inaccurate character, and self-indulgent though boring surrealism) and this one is even worse than the last one. In fact, this is the first episode of both series that I had to skip forward a bit through (the b-plot with the woman and baby). Not much quality control this season. And Meghan Markle references - not just once but multiple times? I suppose this may retrospectively turn out to be this franchise's shark jump.

Is that line supposed to be witty? Meta? It just makes this show seem ridiculous. As ridiculous as Malkovich contuing his quest to be the female Meryl Streep with those silly accents. And why the multiple name dropping of Megan Markle? I suspect it's going to get worse.

Most simple question is the sense of The New Pope. Small jokes, frustrations from childhood, moral problem and sexual touch in mirror are few virtues , each as try to save a serie who seems far by The Young Pope. Sure, it is an early episode and the steps to develop John Paul III are not reduced. But you expect more - be convince and to have not a clone of Pius XIII. Or Jude Law character as solution for save few scenes.
