The last two decades have seen a swath of reality dating shows sweep on — and sometimes off — TV screens, with series like The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Married at First Sight, Love Island, Are You the One?, FBoy Island and 90-Day Fiancé garnering notable and even rabid followings.
But much of that programming, despite ongoing efforts to racially diversify casting, has largely reflected one type of relationship: straight couples. Of course, there’s also been a handful of series — Logo TV’s Finding Prince Charming, Bravo’s Boy Meets Boys, Max’s 12 Dates of Christmas and one entire season of Are You the One? — that have featured either entirely gay or a notable number of LGBTQ contestants.
But mostly queer people are sprinkled in if they’re present at all (think Dating Around, Ex on the Beach, Bachelor in Paradise and The One That Got Away), a piece of a larger...

Eureka Productions has been on a roll recently, picking up orders for series such as a Magic Mike competition series at HBO Max and an adaptation of 1980s videogame Frogger at Peacock.
But the unexpected boom for the business, which produces Holey Moley for ABC, has been having a sizeable production division in Australia during the last twelve months. The company has been able to take advantage of the fact that Covid has been much less prevalent down under, allowing it to shoot a number of U.S. shows in Sydney.

Is there still some magic in that Mike? HBO Max will soon find out: The streamer has ordered “The Real Magic Mike,” a reality competition from the producers of the “Magic Mike” movies. Eureka Productions, the prolific unscripted producers behind “Holey Moley” and “Dating Around,” and Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon, will bring the show to HBO Max later in 2021.
On the show, 10 men who’ve “lost their magic,” as the logline says, will compete for a cash prize and a spot in the “Magic Mike Live” show in Las Vegas. As with the 2012 “Magic Mike” movie — inspired by Channing Tatum’s experiences as a stripper, and directed by Steven Soderbergh — the show appears to have an emotional heart. The logline says, “they will bare their souls and more as they evolve their bodies,” as they learn their routines and “develop a new level of self-confidence.

The classic 1980s video game “Frogger” is getting a modern-day competition series upgrade at Peacock.
The hour-long “Frogger” will feature 12 obstacle courses — or what the streamer is calling “crossings” — that are individually physically demanding challenges based on the original video game, as well as some other nostalgic favorite games. These challenges range from dodging traffic to leaping over snapping alligators to hopping over hungry hippos. However, the show is not solely physical: contestants will also have their strategy and problem-solving smarts tested with these challenges.
Additionally, the world of the “Frogger” series is being designed to be “wild and whimsical,” filled with “all the simple but challenging elements of the mega-hit” game franchise on the small screen.
“We always say we want to delight and surprise our audience,” Jenny Groom, executive vice president, unscripted content, NBCUniversal, recently told Variety. “We use those two words a lot in our programming and...

From the first few responses to the show on social media, I knew that I was supposed to hate the show, be outraged at matchmaker Sima, roll my eyes at prospective bride Aparna, and cringe at every statement prospective groom Akshay ever makes. But if I were to be honest, that's not exactly what happened. I was hooked to it though I was also going 'yikes' at frequent intervals. The show opens with an introduction to Preeti, who belongs to an affluent family, and is looking for a match for her younger son, 25-year-old Akshay. The show chronicles eight adults in total, who have decided to explore this option to find...

The five-part series follows seven singles as they “take their first steps into the world of dating,” according to Netflix’s description of the series. “As well as help from their families, experts provide the love-seekers with practical skills to help them navigate what can be a confusing experience for anyone, giving them the confidence to begin their journey on the road to finding love.”

Netflix's original dating reality shows have become a staple of the platform's programming, but how much are they really changing the game? Viewers have flocked to Netflix's shows over the past few years, looking for new twists on the genre, and Netflix has delivered, with a handful of wholly original shows as well as the streaming rights to a variety of preproduced series from around the world. They're popular and buzzed about, but in an effort to become a go-to hub for reality dating TV, Netflix still often lacks the courage to actually break the mold.
On the surface, Netflix's dating shows seem to be a little more diverse and have a lot more fun than the traditional Bachelor-style shows or the outrageousness of shows like TLC's 90 Day Fiancé. Its biggest breakout hit, Love Is Blind, for instance, included a racially diverse cast - something The Bachelor...

You know, plenty of streaming services would treat the dog days of summer as an excuse to slow down. At Netflix, however, the content buffet is still open, baby. Despite the coronavirus pandemic shutting down all of Hollywood for an extended period of time, Netflix’s new releases for July 2020 are still jam-packed with a host of familiar originals.
The blockbuster this month is probably The Umbrella Academy season 2. The next installment for the Hargreeves family arrives on July 31. And if that’s too long of a wait for you, Netflix gets the month off to a strong start with a string of originals as well. Unsolved Mysteries arrives on July 1, followed by Warrior Nun on July 2, and The Baby-Sitter’s Club on July 3. That’s not even to mentioned the feminist take on Arthurian legend, Cursed, which premiers on July 17.
There are a couple of intriguing original movies to consider this month as well.

Netflix has greenlit two new unscripted dating shows, Variety has learned exclusively.
The new series further bolster Netflix’s lineup in the romance genre, following the success of breakout hits ‘Love Is Blind” and “Too Hot To Handle.”
“Indian Matchmaking,” which will debut on July 16, centers around couples paired by an elite Indian matchmaker. “Love on the Spectrum,” premiering July 22, focuses on young adults on the autism spectrum exploring the dating world.
Unlike “Love Is Blind” and “Too Hot To Handle,” both new shows are serialized, docuseries style formats that will follow several characters’ stories over the course of the season.
“Indian Matchmaking” and “Love on the Spectrum” will create a jam-packed summer of romance for Netflix, which just last week announced a new wedding show, “Say I Do,” from the creators of “Queer Eye,” which premieres on July 1. Five blind dates. One second date. That is the simple but compelling premise of Dating Around, Netflix's original reality dating series. While Love Is Blind and Too Hot to Handle may have made big splashes with their debut seasons earlier this year, Dating Around, which just dropped its second season, was actually the streaming giant's first foray into the genre and may be the realest reality show on TV. Each episode features one lead dater who goes on five blind dates in a Groundhog's Day sort of way: almost everything is the same except for the person they are on the date with, with Dating Around seamlessly editing the five dates to come...

Rather than centering around a proposal like The Bachelor or a wedding like Love Is Blind, Netflix's Dating Around allows singles to focus on finding meaningful connections - from literal day one - with blind dates. Each episode follows one person as they go on five blind dates; all take place at the same restaurant, giving as much equal footing as possible. Now on its sophomore season, which is based in New Orleans, the single-and-ready-to-mingle cast includes Justin, Deva, Demi, Heather, Ben, and Brandon. Apart from awkward first-date banter, couples share past relationships, career goals, interests, and for some, a few goodnight kisses! If you haven't binged Dating Around season two yet, don't fret, because episodes are only half an hour. And if you're curious to see which season one couples made it past date number two, we have that info, too!

Things have been pretty quiet on the movie front for a while, given the pandemic, but this weekend marks a major upswing in content for cinema lovers, with multiple brand new releases available. Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island is unfortunately not up for streaming at present, but Netflix Original Da 5 Bloods, the latest effort from the Oscar-winning Spike Lee, is. For family audiences, there’s also Artemis Fowl over on Disney Plus, which was originally set for a theatrical release back in May.
Even outside of these new films though, there’s plenty of fresh titles coming to the various streaming services this weekend, from classic movies, recent hits, new TV series, old TV series, etc. Whatever combination of services you’re subscribed to, you can fill your whole weekend watching what’s coming to Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, HBO Max and the rest over the next few days.

June has certainly been a bit of a slow month for new Netflix content. At least, when compared to what April and May brought us. And though the streaming giant continues to pump out fresh movies and TV shows on an almost daily basis, there hasn’t been much in the way of noteworthy or buzzy titles lately.
Unfortunately, that trend continues today, as we’ve only got 2 new TV series to sink our teeth into. The other, meanwhile, is a new show called Whispers, and you can check out a quick description of each one down below.

If you’re looking to make a killing in television, unscripted might not be your thing. Margins are tight, huge hits can be infrequent and accolades are often rare.
But now, for the first time in several years, a new wave of optimism is sweeping over the reality TV business. More buyers are in the marketplace as streaming services start bulking up on alternative fare. “In terms of the demand for unscripted and nonfiction reality, you can feel it,” says Tinopolis U.S. chairman and A. Smith & Co. Prods. CEO Arthur Smith. “More money is being spent on unscripted programming this year than any other year in history.”
Recent hits have injected fresh energy into the business, with shows like “The Masked Singer” and “Live Pd” not only being massive draws but also inspiring more risk-taking. Even A-list stars are diving into reality, giving the entire genre more of a shine.

Netflix began its year with “The Circle,” an unscripted competition-reality series that was more interesting in theory — as an examination of the ways in which persona plays out online — than in practice. It’s following that up with “Love Is Blind,” a dating show that reverses the equation. From an utterly banal premise about dating in the absence of visual cues, this series spins surprising human drama that’s more complicated than it might seem to have any right to be. “Love Is Blind” seems hardly to be a creative success: Its central idea is glumly obvious and barely even committed to, and, on a craft level, the show alternates between drab and outright unpleasant. But there are moments when its willingness to frankly depict human strangeness feels, in a moment of particularly massaged reality TV, thrilling.
The show starts from a premise of scientific study, an old saw for the genre.

Fox’s Outmatched is serving up some American Pie: The freshman comedy, which stars Jason Biggs, will host a mini-reunion of the seminal movie when Alyson Hannigan and Eddie Kaye Thomas appear on the series, EW.com reports.
Outmatched features Biggs and Maggie Lawson as Mike and Kay, the parents of four children, three of whom are geniuses. Hannigan and Kaye Thomas will play the helicopter parents of another gifted child, whom Mike and Kay becomes friends with — until their kids decide Mike and Kay are a bad influence on the other couple. The episode is slated to air in March.

Exclusive: Netflix is expanding its unscripted slate with a 10-episode order to Love is Blind, its first serialized unscripted dating series, hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey. The show, from Married at First Sight producer Kinetic Content, will premiere globally over three weeks beginning February 13, tied to the Valentine’s Day holiday.
Love Is Blind looks at whether looks or age do matter in romantic relationships, or if love is really blind.
Hosted by the Lacheys, in the series, singles who want to be loved for who they are, rather than what they look like, have signed up for a less conventional approach to modern dating where they hope to meet the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with…without ever having seen them.
With no distractions from the outside world, the singles talk to a stream of potential love interests and when a meaningful connection is made,...

Dating - especially first dates - can be exhausting on anyone's psyche. That's why many of us enjoy watching strangers do it on TV instead of going through that emotional drudgery ourselves! So it's not shocking that Netflix is finally getting in on the action and releasing a new dating series, Dating Around.
Debuting this Valentine's Day, each episode of Dating Around follows one person as they go on five first dates. At the end of each date, the couples must decide if they want to see each other again or not. By the looks of the trailer, the series promises some witty banter, adorable matchups, and severely awkward exchanges. (Culture clash? Yikes!) Which is pretty much what dating is like in the real world, so kudos for authenticity. The streaming giant promises the series will deliver an "honest and compelling look at the real world of dating," which includes people who range in age,...

“Hope you’re not a serial killer,” says a hopeful single on her first blind date. Netflix has released the trailer for Dating Around, its first original dating series set for premiere, appropriately, on Valentine’s Day, February 14.
The six-episode series takes an honest and compelling look at the real world of dating, according to Netflix. In each episode, one single goes on five first dates filled with flirty banter and awkward exchanges.
“I’m like the goodie girl,” another single says in the trailer. “I’ve never done a drug. And you?” To which her date replies, “Yeah, I love them.”
Dating Around is executive produced by Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin and Alycia Rossiter.
Check out the trailer above.
