Jeffrey Dean Morgan has proved his prowess as one of the greatest The Walking Dead villains albeit turning into a soft character in the later seasons and his own solo spin-off venture with Lauren Cohan’s The Walking Dead: Dead City at AMC. But the actor is now aiming for a big DC role, one that even Jason Momoa is vying for.

Momoa, who played Aquaman in the Dceu, has set his eyes on a potential movie based on the interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, Lobo. And with recent comments from Morgan, he would very much like to play the same character as well. However, there might be one problem that would prevent him from playing the role.

MCU has quite a slate of movies coming up, even though Marvel Studios has hit a rough patch with the last couple of projects. There have been talks about releasing fewer projects, as fans are definitely becoming tired of shows and movies of lower quality; still, if one character always managed to drag people to movies, it’s Spider-Man, by far the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter the product you’re looking at.
Several months ago it was confirmed that ‘Spider-Man 4’ is in active development, at first rumors were circulating that Watts would return to direct it, but he ultimately moved on to other projects, just like Drew Goddard and Justin Lin.
Now the latest rumors pointed in the direction of Sam Raimi directing the upcoming MCU installment, and according to MyTimeToShineHello, the studio is also interested in James Wan.

The MCU has an extensive lineup of upcoming movies, despite recent bumps in quality. Discussions about reducing output have emerged due to fan fatigue with lower-quality content. However, Spider-Man remains a consistently lucrative franchise, drawing audiences regardless of format.
Months ago, ‘Spider-Man 4’ was confirmed to be in development. Initially, there were rumors of Watts returning to direct, but he, along with Drew Goddard and Justin Lin, pursued other projects instead.
The latest rumors suggest that Sam Raimi is in talks to direct the next MCU installment. Additionally, according to MyTimeToShineHello, the studio is eyeing James Wan for the project.

Warner Bros. Discovery reported its first-quarter 2024 earnings Thursday, revealing it had reached 99.6 million paid streaming subscribers in a tough quarter for studios and networks.
That’s a growth of nearly 2 million subscribers from the 97.7 million subs across HBO and streamers Max and Discovery+ that Warner Bros. Discovery reported for the end of 2023.
On Wednesday, Wbd and Disney announced a deal to launch a streaming bundle with Max, Disney+ and Hulu this summer. Pricing wasn’t disclosed.
Wbd’s overall net loss for the first quarter of 2024 was $966 million. Free cash flow stood at $390 million. The company paid $515 million in net interest expense in Q1.
Streaming revenue was flat compared with the year-earlier period, at $2.5 billion. Streaming ad sales rose 70% to $175 million vs. $103 million for Q1 2023. Content revenue was down 46% and distribution inched up 1%. The segment reported adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $86 million, up from Ebitda of...

Warner Bros. Discovery added 2 million direct-to-consumer (Dtc) subscribers in the first quarter of 2024. It now has a total of 99.6 million Dtc subscribers across Max, linear HBO, Discovery+, and some relatively small international streamers you’ve never heard of — don’t worry about those.
It’s just the second straight quarter of a return to Dtc-subscriber growth after three straight quarters of losses. The combination of HBO Max and Discovery+ was bound to cannibalize some subscriptions in the early going, and that is exactly what it did.
The company’s Dtc business made an $86 million profit in the recently ended January-to-March quarter. David Zaslav, the Wbd president and CEO, shorthands that segment to “streaming,” so you can too — but anyone who gets the HBO channel through their cable provider is counted there as well.

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: Justice for Lori Petty!
One of cinema’s greatest action heroes is a fiercely feminist freedom fighter captured by an oppressive regime controlling the water supply of a post-apocalyptic landscape. Seeking revenge after her family was ripped from her, the heroine escapes the grasp of the army by stealing a vehicle of war, and ventures across the vast post-punk deserts of Australia with the ultimate goal of eventually slaying the white-haired tyrant who ruined her life.
No, I’m not talking about Furiosa, Charlize Theron’s iconic badass in “Mad Max: Fury Road.

2024 is an important year for the movie business. The past few years have been all about recovering from the pandemic. Now? Hollywood and theater chains are facing the challenge of weathering a year that has been crippled by 2023's Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America strikes. There have been moments worth cheering about, such as the success of "Dune: Part Two." But, as always, there have been plenty of sour moments at the box office as well, with more than a few flops to go along with the hits.
The early part of the year was anchored by relatively smaller hits like director David Ayer's "The Beekeeper" and the "Mean Girls" musical. Mixed in along the way were a wide variety of misfires, from hopeful big studio blockbusters to smaller, original movies just trying to find their way in an uncertain theatrical landscape. In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their rebooted universe named Dcu, unveiling a comprehensive lineup of projects. The most recent release in the Dceu was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ last year, which achieved some success, especially compared to many MCU films from that year that struggled with critics and box office performance.
In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the Dcu lineup and announced the team of writers responsible for crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ featured films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ alongside television series such as ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold....

In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran presented their own new rebooted universe dubbed Dcu and presented a full slate of projects. The last movie released within the Dceu was last year’s ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ which was somewhat of a success when you take into account that nearly all MCU movies released that year failed both when it comes to critics and when it comes to the box office.

Over 2 months ago, ‘Madame Web’ hit theaters, and it didn’t go well. The movie bombed at the box office, only making $6 million on its first day. It couldn’t even compete with big hitters like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.’ or the recently released ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, falling short even of ‘Morbius’. Critics slammed it, giving it a 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences weren’t much kinder at 57%, earning it the “rotten” label.
People didn’t like the story, calling it all over the place. Plus, there was a bit of false advertising with the trailers showing the Spider-Women as fully powered and costumed when they weren’t in the movie. Fans had plenty of theories about why it tanked, blaming everything from not knowing the source material to issues with the cast and crew. Dakota Johnson didn’t sugarcoat it in a recent interview,...

More than 2 months ago ‘Madame Web’ was released and the results have been catastrophic. The movie was an obvious box-office flop earning only $6 million on its first day. Instead of competing with the likes of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. ‘ or at least, the recently released ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ the movie did not manage to outperform ‘Morbius.’ There’s also the issue of critical reception, the movie is currently rated at 12% on Rotten Tomatoes by critics and 57% by the audience, making the movie “rotten.”
The story was highly criticized for being disjointed, and there’s also the issue of somewhat false advertising as the promo photos and trailers showed all three Spider-Women already having superpowers and fully costumed, but in the movie, we don’t even see their origin stories. Fans pointed out many possible reasons for a failure of such massive scope, among them being the unfamiliarity with the source material,...

2023 may yet be remembered as the year the superhero movie died. Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" was released in February 2023 and was the first notable comic book-based bomb of the year. The film was notoriously re-jiggered throughout its production, with massive and expensive SFX being finalized up to the last minute. The official budget ballooned to $200 million, although separate reports have pegged the price tag as being closer to that of Disney's notorious box office misfire "John Carter" (which cost $263 million to make). "Quantumania" still grossed $464 million, but that's considered low for a Marvel movie.
Throughout 2023, more bombs dropped as superhero movies either lost money or were considered disappointments. "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," "The Flash," "Blue Beetle," "The Marvels," and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" all tanked, and while many went to see "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3," it felt like the last kick in a closing series.

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the Dceu era came to a close, making way for Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu. It’s been known for years that the Dcu would mirror the MCU, with multiple phases or “chapters.”
The first chapter, ‘Gods & Monsters,’ was announced, with ‘Creature Commandos’ being its inaugural project. However, ‘Superman: Legacy’ is set to unofficially kickstart the new Dcu. Notably, ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will transition from Dceu to the new Dcu, with Gunn ensuring it fits seamlessly into the canon.
Gunn recently confirmed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and ‘Waller’ will be filmed simultaneously. According to Pwinsider, John Cena will be occupied from June to November 2024 with shooting the second season. Cena will be filming in the Atlanta area during this time, with production expected to wrap up around Thanksgiving.

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen opened with a bang on Netflix.
The series, a spinoff of Ritchie’s 2019 film, delivered almost 1.21 billion minutes of viewing over its first four days (it premiered March 7), according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings for March 4-10. It ranked second among all streaming series for the week, behind Love Is Blind (1.5 billion minutes), which repeated as the top overall title.
Netflix also got a big first week for Millie Bobby Brown’s movie Damsel, which edged The Gentlemen for second place overall: Damsel had 1.209 billion minutes of viewing to 1.205 billion for The Gentlemen. Two other shows also topped the billion-minute mark — Bluey (1.1 billion on Disney+) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.04 billion on Netflix and Peacock).
After a huge opening and a strong second week, Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender fell by about 51 percent to 950 million minutes, still good for sixth place overall and third among original series.

Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the DC Universe (Dcu) has officially taken over from the DC Extended Universe (Dceu). Now, some of the most iconic characters in comic history are under the direction of Safran and Gunn. The Dcu is set to kick off with the animated show ‘Creature Commandos.’ However, the live-action aspect of this cinematic universe will begin with the release of ‘Superman,’ which both Safran and Gunn consider to be the true start of the Dcu. Several other projects are confirmed to be in development, including ‘The Authority,’ focusing on the team of the same name, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ starring Milly Alcock as Dcu’s Supergirl, and ‘Paradise Lost,’ a TV show centered on Wonder Woman-related lore set on Themyscira.
While key roles like Superman, Lois Lane, and Supergirl have been cast, the identity of the live-action Batman in the Dcu remains unknown.

The Dcu is meant to start with the animated show ‘Creature Commandos,’ however, the live-action portion of this cinematic universe is kicking off the release of ‘Superman’ which both Safran and Gunn consider to be the true start of Dceu. Several other projects are also confirmed to be in development, ‘The Authority’ focusing on the team of the same name, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ that would see Milly Alcock in the role of Dcu’s Supergirl, ‘Paradise Lost’ a tv show focusing on Wonder Woman-oriented lore set on Themyscira.

More than eight months (and one Oscar best picture win) after “Oppenheimer” landed in theaters, Christopher Nolan’s historical epic is still finding new audiences.
The film opened over the weekend in its final market, Japan, with $2.5 million from 343 theaters. It placed third on the country’s box office charts after two local offerings, the horror movie “Strange House” and the animated “Haikyu!!” According to Universal Pictures, “Oppenheimer” is the biggest opening weekend of 2024 for a Hollywood release in Japan, surpassing “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” ($1.6 million) and “Dune: Part Two” ($1.3 million).
With these ticket sales, “Oppenheimer” stands at a staggering $965 million globally. It’s a remarkable tally for a three-hour, R-rated drama that mostly takes place in laboratories and the halls of American government. In addition to box office riches, the $100-million budgeted film won seven Oscars, including best picture and director.

Kung Fu Panda 4 India Box Office Collection Day 11 ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Kung Fu Panda 4 is proving to be a formidable force at the Indian box office. With an estimated 25.96 crore net collection in its first 11 days, the animated movie has delivered a solid performance, exceeding expectations. Read further to learn about the Kung Fu Panda 4 box office collection in India.
While its opening week collection of 16.95 crore fell short of some predictions, Kung Fu Panda 4 displayed impressive staying power. This resilience is even more remarkable considering Spider-Verse 2, which achieved similar second-weekend numbers, had a much stronger opening.
Here’s what’s fueling the film’s momentum:
Strong Second Weekend: The film witnessed a mere 35% drop from its opening weekend, a testament to its ability to retain audiences.

"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" (read our review here) is now streaming on Max, and its arrival on streaming marks the official end of the old Dceu once orchestrated by Zack Snyder. Now, new DC films are in the hands of James Gunn and Peter Safran, with new actors coming in to play familiar DC heroes in brand-new stories. The old Dceu is now a thing of the past, and a reminder that reverse-engineering a superhero cinematic universe to compete with Marvel isn't an easy task.
And what of Aquaman? Jason Momoa's aquatic hero only got two movies of his own, but he appeared in a total of six. This might have you wondering: what the heck is the correct order to watch all the movies with Aquaman in them? If you're ready to sit down and watch "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," but want that question answered first, you're in luck!

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is finally here! That film was the official goodbye to the Dceu. Surprisingly, the first Aquaman is the only film to ever reach the billion-dollar mark within the Dceu. Sadly, it’s been downhill for the once-popular brand ever since. However, despite the clear flaws of the Dceu, there were plenty of positives that came from these live-action films. On the surface, the Dceu as a whole wasn’t bad. Sure, they’ve had plenty of stinkers, but none of the films were ever horrendous. The Dceu ultimately lacked strong direction as the executives were so focused on

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc with theaters in 2021, there were still 14 movies released that year that were able to cross the coveted $100 million mark at the U.S. box office. In 2022, that number jumped up to 18 films that reached $100 million and beyond domestically. So how many feature films released during the current 2023 calendar year will end up becoming box office behemoths? Stay tuned.

Oscar-winning films were denied a theatrical victory lap, grossing less than $1 million total last weekend. They found gold at home, where titles like “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” ranked high on both VOD and on streaming.
Two $19.99 PVOD titles lead the VOD charts. “Anyone but You” (Sony) remains #1 at iTunes and Google, while the just-released “Madame Web” is #1 at Fandango. “Anyone” is #5 at Fandango, while “Madame Web,” released last Friday, has yet to be listed at Google Play, which always lags a few days.
Oscar titles otherwise dominated. Five films, all with rentals between $4.99 and $6.99 (and all but one also streaming), took 12 of 30 positions on three VOD charts. “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” (Searchlight) swept the field.
On two charts were winners “American Fiction” (Amazon MGM), “Anatomy of a Fall” (Neon), and “The Zone of Interest” (A24). “The Beekeeper” (Amazon MGM), still at $19.99, and “Wonka” (WB), now reduced to $5.99, round out the...

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is both a direct sequel to 2018’s Aquaman (also directed by Wan) and also the fifteenth and final film in the Dceu (the DC Extended Universe). As such, it does the occasional bit of floundering, but it just about treads water, thanks to a mostly seaworthy plot and suitably salty character work.
The plot picks up a few years after the events of the first film, with Arthur Curry / Aquaman (Jason Momoa) now married to Mera (Amber Heard), raising a young son, Arthur Jr. and dividing his time between ruling as the King of Atlantis (complete with shiny orange armour), and fighting crime on the surface world. "Dune: Part Two" has continued to rake in the dough and has now surpassed 2021's "Dune" at the global box office. When all's said and done, director Denis Villeneuve's sequel will probably make somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5 times as much as the first movie did, which is great news for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. It's also very good news for those who want to see Villeneuve finish his trilogy in a few years, as all signs point to the studios giving a third installment the green light.
This past weekend, "Dune: Part Two" came in second place to "Kung Fu Panda 4," pulling in another $28.5 million domestically in its third weekend. As the new year begins, anticipation builds for the launch of a fresh cinematic universe centered on DC characters – Dcu. While the previous Dceu concluded with the moderately successful ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ many films within the franchise have struggled. This led to James Gunn and Peter Safran being tapped to oversee the rebooted Dcu, with ‘Superman’ being a highly anticipated project, despite ‘Creature Commandos’ releasing first.
After months of speculation, Gunn announced with excitement that principal photography for ‘Superman’ commenced on February 29th, coincidentally Superman’s birthday. When asked about the inspiration behind Superman’s suit, Gunn cited Alex Ross, a renowned comic book writer and artist.
Though a sneak peek of the suit has been revealed, Gunn clarified that the full reveal will not occur until filming commences. With scenes already filmed in Svalbard, Norway, related to the Fortress of Solitude, the anticipation is building for the imminent reveal.

The DC Universe might once again be in trouble. While Warner Bros. Discovery is considering selling the 100-year-old studio that keeps throwing finished movies in the trash, and the DC Universe prepares to reboot with the release of James Gunn's "Superman" next year, the other pillar of DC is taking a little break before coming back.
Reports are coming in that Matt Reeves' "The Batman: Part II" is no longer opening on October 3, 2025; Deadline says the movie is now releasing a whole year later, on October 2, 2026.
According to Deadline, the new date is the result of delays due to the dual strikes that hit Hollywood last year as studios got so greedy they'd rather see the whole industry stop for over 100 days rather than provide better working conditions to the folks who make their movies. After a weekend with the Oscars sharing the spotlight with the best one-two punch at the box office since July, the VOD and Netflix current home viewing charts lag in importance. “Argylle” (Universal) had a good launch on PVOD and “Damsel,” the kind of far-removed from awards thoughts Netflix original film, clicked with users immediately. Both bits of news are so below the radar that they have little relevance to how things stand in the industry.
“Argylle” — which Apple reportedly acquired for $200 million from “Kingsman” creator Matthew Vaughn and then released theatrically through Universal (with a gross of under $45 million) — came out on PVOD (for $19.99 rental) two weeks earlier than Apple’s earlier “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Napoleon.” And significantly, in doing so, delayed when their streaming subscribers gain access to it.

When ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ came out, the Dceu was wrapped up and Gunn and Safran’s Dcu took its place. For a long time, we’ve known that the Dcu will follow the MCU’s lead, organizing its movies into phases or “chapters.” The first chapter in the Dcu is called ‘Gods & Monsters.’ The first release in ‘Gods & Monsters’ will be ‘Creature Commandos,’ but Gunn has said ‘Superman: Legacy’ will actually kick off the new Dcu unofficially.

Clearly, ‘Creature Commandos’ has to be finished first so it can come out before ‘Superman.’ But for the other projects, Gunn recently shared on ‘Threads’ a new schedule for the projects coming after the Superman movie. The latest news is that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will be filmed at the same time as ‘Superman,’ and ‘Waller’ will start right after that. Gunn also...

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu was finally retired and Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu took over. We’ve known for years up to this point that Dcu will closely follow the example set by the MCU and that the cinematic universe will consist of several phases or rather “chapters.” The first such chapter in the Dcu was announced to be ‘Gods & Monsters.’ The first project released as a part of ‘Gods & Monsters’ will be ‘Creature Commandos’ but Gunn already stated that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will be the unofficial start of the new Dcu.

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the Dceu has come to an end, and Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu has taken its place. It’s been known for years that the Dcu would follow a similar model to the MCU, with multiple phases or “chapters.” The first chapter, titled ‘Gods & Monsters,’ was announced, with ‘Creature Commandos’ being the first project released under it. However, Gunn has stated that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will serve as the unofficial start of the new Dcu.
One significant project transitioning from the Dceu to the new Dcu is ‘Peacemaker.’ While ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was already confirmed to be in development, Gunn clarified that the show will be part of the Dcu canon. He assured fans that he would make the transition seamless and understandable, ensuring minimal confusion between the Dceu and Dcu, especially concerning ‘Peacemaker.’

Just under a month ago, ‘Madame Web’ hit theaters with disastrous results. The film bombed at the box office, pulling in a mere $6 million on its opening day. It’s struggling to compete against heavy hitters like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.’ or even the recently released ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’ Its chances of surpassing ‘Morbius’ seem slim. Critical reception has been harsh, with a 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 57% from the audience, branding it as “rotten.”
Critics slammed the disjointed storyline and criticized the misleading promotional material, which portrayed the Spider-Women as fully powered and costumed, unlike their portrayal in the movie. Fans speculated various reasons for such a colossal failure, citing unfamiliarity with the source material among others. As actors and directors tried to salvage the situation, Dakota Johnson’s apparent resignation stood out. In her interview with Bustle, Johnson candidly addressed the factors...

Less than a month ago ‘Madame Web’ was released and the results have been catastrophic. The movie was an obvious box-office flop earning only $6 million on its first day. Instead of competing with the likes of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. ‘ or at least, recently released ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ it’s going to be good if it manages to outperform ‘Morbius.’ There’s also the issue of critical reception, the movie is currently rated at 12% on Rotten Tomatoes by critics and 57% by the audience, making the movie “rotten.”
The story was highly criticized for being disjointed, and there’s also the issue of somewhat false advertising as the promo photos and trailers showed all three Spider-Women already having superpowers and fully costumed, but in the movie, we don’t even see their origin stories. Fans pointed out many possible reasons for a failure of such massive scope,...
