Not entirely bad, but lacking too much in general

"See" is an American live action short film from 2019, February 2019, so it is not a year old yet. the writer and director is Stetson Gleave and this is his only filmmaking credit as the man in charge so far. Language is English, but there is literally almost no dialogue in here except one scene of screaming, so you can also watch this film without subtitles if you don't understand English. It is the story of an Asian American woman whose husband gets abducted and when she is there to pay for his release apparently, she gets her revenge. The key is that she is a blind and manages to destroy the bulb and that gives her a big advantage on the criminals, let by a woman with her hunky helpers. Okay that is all there is basically. I thought that even for 300 seconds, the story was relatively thin. We find out almost nothing. Why is the kidnapper seen early on, is she a friend of the main character? What are the motives, just greed? How did the Asian get a skilled fighter? And why are the bad guys this incompetent and weak? I guess we will never find out about that. budget says here on imdb $10,000 and honestly I think this is also way too much given the looks of the film, the absence of special effects. The actors are not too experienced either. (although they were okay given what they had to work with) It could have been a lot better. The film tries to deliver on the atmospheric take in terms of lights, atmosphere, camera angles etc. and while it is not a failure there, it is also far from convincing. Also the sequence in the bed with him there, then gone included some wild all-over-the-place editing. Judging from this one, I am not too curious if Gleave will work on future films or if this is going to stay his only credit. I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended.
