Mystic River: From Page to Screen (2003)
Wrongful title
Howcome there's NEVER any live footage from the making of a Clint Eastwood film? This documentary is titled FROM PAGE TO SCREEN - most of it is interviews with the actors, with the director and clips from the film. Towards the end of it, you meet the author and the screenplay writer, but no other people. The title suggests that you will follow the story from book: through rewriting; production- & costume design; casting; photographer & director; editing and music - but NO, nothing like that. Stils from the making and mostly of them on Clint Eastwood himself. The title should have been THOUGHTS & IDEAS from the film.
I'll give it 1 point. This documentary gave me NOTHING.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1997)
Not a good one...
What the hell is this? Michael Anderson is a good director, and has done good films in the past, but this? A giant octopus - or is it a sea monster - attacks, and the crewmen WALKS into the mouth of it and thinks they gonna survive???
And what is it with Hollywood concerning the fact, that there CAN'T be a group of men living together on a tiny area, for a long time?? In all modern versions of Jules Verne books (except Richard Fleischers version), there are some characters replaced by female versions. Do Hollywood think that ALL men are gay???
Two versions came the same year and in BOTH the professor has a daughter...
Well, Ben Cross is brilliant - as always (and 2 points for that). Richard Crenna is OK, but the rest? No, let Nautilus go to the bottom and the let crew & passengers rest in peace...
Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
It´s simply the Best...
The easiest word for this film is BEST - It is the best (or one of them).
It´s Sergio Leones best film; It´s one of both Robert De Niro and James Woods best films; The soundtrack is one of Ennio Morricones best (Why did it Not get an Academy Award???).
The script and the photography is brilliant. The story is sad, but great.
And don´t miss Jennifer Connelly, who is so cute in this film.
I love it; A Masterpiece!!!
Ma-ma (1976)
Great Musical Film
I remember this film from my childhood years...
It was shown on Swedish TV and i loved it. I still remember some of the songs - and some of the girls - and would give a lot to see it again.
As one speaker said before; Great films (for children) during this period, from the east block.....
Fargo (1996)
Big Films vs. Bad Films...
Am i the only one that thinks/feels that this film sucks...???
When i saw the film, ALL the "great" scenes had already been seen in trailers and review programs and the rest was pure s***.
And how could Frances get an Academy Award for this?????
She just waggled around like a pregnant duck and tried to speak english with a swedish accent.
Check out "Murder on the Orient Express" and see how Ingrid Bergman did it. There´s a fine actor/actress......
The Assignment (1997)
Stunts & Actors...
The Stunts sequences (as well as the Special Effects) are Brilliant, in this movie. Michael Scherer must be one of Canadas BEST Stunt Co-ordinators of all time. The explosion in the Café, is a wonderful combination of Stunts, Special Effects AND Visual Effects. The Director HAD an idea, that the Crew managed to create on film.
Besides that; Donald Sutherland makes one of his best performances in this film.......
The Mummy (1999)
Three Great Things...
There´s THREE things that lifts this film up;
1) Stephen Sommers - A great Director. This is probably the best film the mas has done......
2) Simon Crane - Stunt Co-ordinator. The last few years, Simon Crane has worked on the really BIG films of US & UK : GoldenEye; Saving Private Ryan; The Mummy; Titanic. IF you know that Mr. Crane is working with a project, then you know that the film will have GREAT stunt sequences.....
3) Jerry Goldsmith - The Composer. THIS must be one of Mr. Goldsmith´s BEST soundtracks ever recorded......
Erin Brockovich (2000)
Stunts!
Knowing a lot of movie making and how to create stunts/action scenes, i jumped high in my chair over the car crash scene in the beginning!!!
I don´t understand HOW they did it.......
It looks like Julia Roberts entering the car, but they would NEVER had let her get away into an car crash like that, with helmet and security harness in the car, and they are NOT there.
EDIT : If they edited the scene; Great Editing!!!
VFX : Visual Effects ?? Possibly; but who???
THE only chance, as i see it, is that it was Tabby Hanson that entered the car, and in the few seconds after the car passed the camewra, she got her self in position, put a helmet on, and got her self driven on, by stuntman JACK GILL whom later on can be seeing AS the driver, in the court room........
Gwendoline (1984)
Soundtrack
This is a very strange film. Half action/adventure; Half Comedy; Half Porno.....
But even if you can say this or that about the film, there´s TWO things that are outstanding with this film.
a) The Girl - Gwendoline, played by Tawny Kitaen. A very Beautyful and Sexy girl/young woman, whom i fell in love with.....
b) The Soundtrack. A great soundtrack by a French Composer Pierre Bachelet. When i found the soundtrack on record (LP), a few years after i´ve seen the film, i became very Happy.........
Hudson Hawk (1991)
Better than it´s rumoured
This film is much better then it´s rumoured The stunt work by Charles Picernni is wonderful, and the acting by Andie McDowell and Wernon Wells and James Coburn is good - not oscarwinning, but good. The story is of course a little bit crazy, but I like this film. The soundtrack is great - thanks Michael Kamen/Robert Kraft - and both Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello proof that they CAN sing. Note also David Caruso in a little but superb role
