The True Feel-Good Movie
17 March 2002
I had once again watched this movie yesterday and man, what an incredible movie. This is truly Al Pacino's greatest performance since Michael Corleone in The Godfather. This was truly a difficult character to play and Al Pacino had executed it beautifully and he truly deserved that Oscar. All in all, he played a man that was shut out of vision in the real world but could tell from a person just by the scent of the person and his feelings but most of all, it's a film about hope and how you have to live your life to the fullest. just because you are blind and paralyzed, it does not mean you give up. you go on and on.

On a side note, the film had some incredible moments too. The scene were Owen Trask gets the tannish cream in his car was pure hilarious. The tango scene made me feel in awe. This is truly one of those films that would make you bring a smile on your face even after watching it. I suggest to all of you out there. if you haven't seen it, see it. it is a remarkable film. i recommend it!

Gladiator (2000)
a masterpiece of courage
3 January 2002
Some people would compare this film to Braveheart. it may be true but not always. Braveheart was a film about a man's fight for freedom. Gladiator is a film about a man's fight for justice and what he feels should be rational. i saw this film once again on New Year's Day and i was captivated by it. Russell Crowe gave a performance of what I led to belive may be the best performance he has ever given. One of the many aspects of the film is the direction as well as the cinematography. Ridley Scott is a visionary director and he creates this movie pictures that will stick out in our minds forever. the battle scenes as well as the stadium scenes may be quite brutal but it's important to know about it and see it because these most of the people back in those times who fought in these stadiums were slaves and they fought to show that they were courageous and wanted their justice. this may be a one of those films that was rapidly paced. The film was two and a half hours long but it seemed like a hour less because the film went by so quickly. I really believe that Gladiator is one of the best films i have ever seen as well as one of the best action films i have ever seen. The acting was excellent and the directing was magnificent. If you want to see a movie that will leave you in awe or what to learn about the history of ancient societies such as Roman societies, take a look at this film. You will be amazed!

a superb film full of amazing wonders
3 January 2002
This is one of those films that captivated me and kept me on the edge of my seat. Now, I was one in a few people that had never read the book. I need to though. It was so amazing of how these actors who played the roles like Gandalf and Frodo would play it so effectively. The direction by Peter Jackson is astonishing. He did a pretty good job at keeping the film and the book at a pure simplicity. I hope he wins an Academy Award for it. Better yet, this film will receive a few Oscars. I thought the battle scenes was great too. I could easily compare the battle scenes to the scenes from Braveheart and Gladiator because they seem realistic and some people would look at it as fights between the good and the evil. Ian McKellen is the actor i would give kudos to because i heard that in the novel, Gandalf was a seven-foot man and what he did with that role was incredible. i mean, i couldn't imagine Ian McKellen playing a large man but he did it with pure ability and wit. This is a excellent movie. It adds up to my list of favorite movies and it is also a film of many genres. it is a drama, a love story, an action/adventure and a tale of courage and destiny. I recommend this film to anyone who likes to kill three hours of their time. You will be amazed!

a masterpiece about the fight for freedom
28 December 2001
I remember seeing a bit of the film on HBO and chunks of it on USA and now, when i finally saw the whole thing a few hours ago, i was captivated by the theme as well as the impact of the movie. It took a lot of guts for Mel Gibson to star in the film as well as star in it and he deserved that Best Director Oscar. Rarely, have we seen actors who have direct themselves into a good performance. i believe that i saw it in Mel Gibson. this may be one of the best war movies that i have ever seen. all of the cast members were wonderful, especially Mel Gibson. The battle scenes may be a little bit stomach-turning and brutal but, as the viewer, it is important to show the violence of what happened between the Scottish and the British back at those times and it is brilliant film making and the best fight scenes ever captured on film. this is a film about the fight for freedom and the courage to free your heart and follow your dreams and to achieve it at a high peak. I also thought that the music was wonderful too as well as the cinematography which was beautifully filmed. The music, by James Horner, gives a deft subtleness of the movie and creates the tone. I recommend this film to everyone because this film is like a sonnet as well as a history lesson. it is a incredible movie and a film that will live on forever.

the coens' masterpiece
27 December 2001
I remember seeing this film about a month ago at the Crest at my home town and seeing the film made me think hard about my society. sometimes, i feel like ed crane when it comes to my high school. I'm the man who wasn't there. I'm nearly a phantom to my classmates. anyway, i believe that the Coen Brothers have struck yet another chord in their film making with The Man Who Wasn't There. it is a film that will astonishing and hold you at every minute of the movie. All of the cast members were incredible, especially Billy Bob Thornton. He quoting a film critic which i agree, manage to play a boring man without giving a boring performance. Literally what he did what something that you rarely see in film making. His subtleness at every turn may have astonish the audience or even shocked them. in a way, we all have a Ed Crane in ourselves. i liked the coens' style of film making and i think the real kudos should be towards the cinematographer Roger Deakins. he may be one of the best cinematographers that we ever had in the film industry. this is a film that gives the name "film-noir" a WHOLE new definition. i love this film so much and i wish to see it again sometime. the coen brothers do a very good job at making a film that has the right elements and the right characters. they make films that anyone couldn't believe it would be directed by them. i recommend this film to everyone who loves film-noir movies. the coen brothers have yet made another excellent movie. folks, you will be amazed.

Shrek (2001)
the best animated movie (ever!!)
25 December 2001
I have seen many animated movies and they were quite good but they didn't really seem realistic to me as much. having watched shrek, i think this may be the best animated movie ever full of realism. The film wasn't afraid to show off their artsy humor and that humor in shrek was well executed in the right parts. all of the major cast members (especially Mike Myers) did a magnificent and mellifluous job of voicing the characters. throughout the movie, i couldn't stop laughing. the film was hilarious, funny, witty and, most of all, smart. i believe this film has taken the place as well of my Top 10 favorite films of all time. if i ever have a so-so day, I'll remember to pop this film on my DVD player and sit back with some orange juice and popcorn and enjoy. i hope this film will deserve some Oscars and Shrek may be the best animated movie EVER!!! if you want to see a animated movie full of wit, see it! you will be amazed!

One Of The Funniest Movies Ever Made
25 December 2001
this is certainly one heck of a comedy. all of the cast members were funny and gave one of the most hilarious performances that we have ever seen in a comedy in recent years. Kevin Kline made me laugh so hard, i almost hit the floor. He really deserved that Oscar! the film was delicious (and i mean it), funny, smart and charming. some people may complain that the film may be a bit vulgar in its taste but for me, you shouldn't mess with art because this film is a huge piece of art. there were some very funny scenes, especially the love-making scenes Otto and Wanda have. Otto West may be one of the funniest characters that we have seen on film. John Cleese, who played Archie Leach, wrote the film and he deserves kudos because he had a smart sense of humor of writing this film and i praise him for it. i love this film. once again, it is a very delicious movie and if you want to see a good comedy that will tickle your funny bone, this may be it for you. for me, no hesitation. you will be amazed!

the coens at their funniest
2 July 2001
I haven't seen this movie for a while but I loved it and I thought it was the most funniest movie that I have ever seen. All of the cast members in this film give excellent performances, especially by Holly Hunter. The Coen Brothers managed to make a feel-good movie after Blood Simple and they have succeeded in doing it. I LOVE THE COEN BROTHERS! I love them! I have seen all of their films and they are masterpieces. The funniest thing about the Coen Brothers is that they have a huge portal in their head and once you get inside of it, you can never get out and you see all these weird images in their head that they put in their movies like this one. Also, one of the great aspects of this film is the cinematography which was flat out great. This movie is the one for you. Recommended.

A laugh-out loud movie
23 June 2001
This is another funny film from the minds of the Coen Brothers. It was funny, audacious and hilarious. Despite the amount of profanity it was used in the film, it was still a funny movie. All of the cast members were great, especially John Turturro as the bowler. His two scenes really made the movie. In a way, it was sort of like the Raising Arizona of kidnapping movies. It had a surreal feel to it and that's how most of the Coen movies are. Anyway, for all you Coen lovers. They have a new film coming out and that's The Man Who Wasn't There. Anyway, The Big Lebowski: SEE IT!

a film of wonder
15 June 2001
This film is probably the only Coens film so far that almost all of their fans hated. But, I saw it twice. When I first saw it, I thought these fans were right. It was a film that annoying and somewhat stupid but when I watched it the second time, boy, did I miss out. True, their are some annoying parts but overall, I thought it was a great movie by the Coens. The set design was dazzling and the cinematography was excellent. Tim Robbins gave a funny performance as did Bruce Campbell. He was hilarious in that film and quite funny too. While I was watching this film, I was overwhelmed by the atmosphere and the tone. I heard it cost $25 million dollars to make and I believed it. For one thing Paul Newman and the other, the special effects. I don't care. The movie wad great and the Coens have created another masterpiece. Oh, the music was great too. If any of you hasn't seen this movie, see it. Recommended.

The Bizarre world of the coens
15 June 2001
Wow! This is a film that you will make you overwhelmed when the movie fades out and the credits come up. In a way, this film is sort of like Fargo, only with a twist. In Fargo, guy hires two idiots to kidnap wife for insurance. Here, guy hires a guy to kill his wife and his lover because of the wife's infidelity. This is the Coen's first film and I don't blame them. I am a huge fan of the Coens and after watching this, I have seen all of the Coens film. The film had a sophoric feel that will sort of leave goose bumps on your arm, even at the end. All of the actors in that film gave superb performance, especially M. Emmet Walsh as the private eye. He was chilling and yet he did it great. He is one of these characters that will show up in a bad dream. That's how most of the Coens films are: surreal. Anyway, see it. It's a great movie. Recommended.

powerful, amazing, I LOVED IT!!!
12 April 2001
I got to tell you, this has got to be one of the best films that I have ever seen. I mean, when i came out of the theater after seeing this movie, I was overwhelmed. I am definitely going to buy this movie on DVD. The film deals with very important issues like drugs and the effects it had on a few people and it tells it very thoroughly. I am adding this film to one of my top 10 films of all time: #1 tied with Magnolia. All of the people who acted in that movie were amazing and it did deservedly earned those four academy awards. I think the elements in that film that set it off were the acting, the cinematography and the stories in this film. If you haven't seen it, SEE IT! Recommended.

The Coens' Godfather
17 March 2001
I got to tell you, when I saw this film last week. I thought it was a astonishing movie. I was left speechless. Miller's Crossing was one in a few Coen Brothers films that I haven't seen. Now I need to see tow more of their films: The Hudsucker Proxy and Blood Simple. When I first heard of this film and around the time I have heard of The Coen Brothers, I had no idea this film was directed by them. I thought it was directed by Martin Scorsese. Anyway, this is arguably the best film by the Coen Brothers. I mean, it was a good movie. This is my first time seeing this film so I need to see it again sometime. I hope someday it will be released on DVD. Because I have a Surround Sound so when the action sequences are on, the box will tremble. Excellent gangster movie. I recommend it.

the best goddamn movie ever
23 January 2001
I must say, i was completely blown away by this movie. I mean, everything in this movie I can completely relate to. This are a group of people who are going through a midlife crisis and feel alienated by their friends and peers. While I was watching this movie, I felt Lester Burnham's pain, of what he had to go through. In real life, I'm sort of Lester Burnham in real life. Anybody who thinks this movie sucks or for some of you teenage valley girls who thinks this movie is sick and perverted, you need to have your head examined. This is movie will have you say to yourself "I'm sort of like these people too." I LOVE THIS MOVIE! IT ROCKS!

The Coens Are At It Again
15 January 2001
Once again, the Coen Brothers have a made a feel-good movie that will make you laugh and will make you jump from your seat. I believed that everybody in the film did outstanding in this movie. i just saw this movie yesterday at the theaters and I was really impressed by it. When I when to the theater for "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", people saw it because of George clooney and how much of a hunk he is. For me, i saw it because of the Coen Brothers. There are outstanding and talented filmmakers and I can't wait to see more of their work. They did a magnificent job on this movie and plus, they have a really good idea of how to make people laugh. The Coen Brothers are one of those writer/directors that are good at it. I hope this film gets some Oscar nominations. This is a very funny film and Joel and Ethan Coen, if you're reading this, i love you guys. Hey, cast me in one of your movies.

Best War Movie Ever
1 January 2001
I must say, this has got to be one of the best war movies that I have ever seen. The first half of the film will leave you laughing your lungs out but the second half ends up turning tragic and will leave you speechless. Stanley Kubrick is nothing but one word: genius. I mean, I love ALL of his movies. His movies are all about the dark side of human nature. Whenever you see Full Metal Jacket, it's like you are really there man. You are really in the frontlines of war. It is a shame that Stanley Kubrick has sadly passed on, but I will NEVER forget the movies that he had made. Stanley, I love you man.

The Best Sketch Comedy Show ('nuff said)
12 November 2000
All of all the sketch comedy shows I have seen, The Kids In The Hall is the best damn comedy show ever. The Kids are outstanding and they are very funny and it was a shame that their show ended. I love them!! I was almost into tears when the show ended. I hope that someday they can do another reunion show. The coolest sketch comedy show i have seen in years.

One of the greatest films dealing with everyday life
4 November 2000
I just saw this films at the theaters a few hours before I am writing this and after I got back from the theater, I got completely taken by it. This film touched me humanly and emotionally. It's the sort of film that tells you that miracles can happen to you unexpectedly at any minute now. Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment gave superb performances. I think they all deserve a Oscar nomination. It was really a shock at the end. On a side note, this film, to me, was sort of realistic. I was originally going to see Meet The Parents but a day before I was going to see it, a close friend of mine told me about this film and i said to myself, what the heck, I'll give it a shot and the results were outstanding. Mrs. Bist, I thank you for telling me about this movie. Anyway, if you love films that deal with miracles, then go see this film. Like Pay It Forward, Grand Canyon and Magnolia, it's the kind of films that help heal pain.

What an superb, outstanding, brilliant and mesmerizing movie
27 October 2000
I have to tell you one thing. This is one of the best films that I have ever seen. This movie is the BOMB! Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the greatest screenwriters and filmmakers that I have ever known. And, someday, i hope to see more of his work. This film is funny, touching and human. It tell us about all the ups and downs about life and how people go through life physically and emotionally, how they take downfalls. And, how they are in a situation where they are lonely and have no one to talk to. for those of the other bozos who think this movie sucks or they think it is b.s., YOU THOUGHT WRONG!! This is my all time favorite movie. I'll bet they are more prone to watching kiddie flicks like Toy Story or Bambi. Those jerks. Anyway, I strongly recommend this film to anybody and by the way, if you are ever depressed or feel lonely or ever feel suicidal, this IS the movie for you. These are the kinds of movies that help heal pain. KIDDIE FLICKS LIKE TOY STORY DON'T!!

Short Cuts (1993)
L.A. life
8 August 2000
This is the kind of movie where it depicts everyday life in Los Angeles. This movie tells us that we people have to deal with this kind of stuff. The things that i don't like about L.A. is that there are helicopters flying around everywhere. There is bloodshed, people lying around in boxes. Whenever I see this movie, it tells me what kind of a society do we live in right now where people just can't do nothing but yell at each other. It also depicts the realism. This movie has some funny moments and some sad moments. I thought all of the stars were excellent. Most people probably didn't like it because it was way too long at three hours. Well, it is long because it portrays different people in certain events. I recommend this film to people who love films dealing with L.A. 10 out of 10

powerful war movie
7 August 2000
When I first saw this movie, it really turned me on. I was almost in tears when the men had to go out to war. The movie has a feeling that makes you feel you were in the battle. I thought it was the best war movie that I have ever seen. All of the stars were excellent, especially Denzel Washington. He was superb. The thing i like about this movie was that it shows that pain the men had to go through before they had to go out for women. Part of the reason was that the commanders wanted them get ready. Also, I love the music. It creates a certain mood in every scene that the music is playing. I recommend this film highly for people who want to learn about the Civil War and family viewing. 10 out of 10.

Coen's best
5 August 2000
I got to tell you, this is one of the darkest films that I have ever seen, even though I haven't seen this film for a long time. What the film is trying to say is that Hollywood is no fairy tale town. and once you get pulled in, you can't free yourself. I think that's what Barton encountered. He was in a world full of wackos and everyone around him is not what they think they are. I thought this was the Coen Brothers best work since "Fargo". Everybody in this film gave superb performances, especially John Goodman. He scared the heck out of me near the end. and I thought he would have downright earned an Oscar nomination. Well, i recommend this movie to people who are huge fans of the Coens are love black comedies. 10 out of 10.

The Shining (1980)
It gave me the chills.
5 August 2000
Every time I see this film, Jack Torrance always haunts me in my sleep. Out of all the horror films that I have seen, this is the best one yet. Jack Nicholson's performance's was over the top. He was so creepy I got scared of him. It gave me goosebumps when he tried to haunt Wendy. I got to tell you, Stanley Kubrick has done it again. If he was alive today, I would love to work with him. Others might think it would be hard because he would make every actor do a hundred takes or so. Out of the subject, if you love horror movies, then see this one. Stay away from the others. Anyway, I recommend this movie to people who loooove horror movies. 10 out of 10

an art show
4 August 2000
Out of all the talk shows that I have seen, this is the best one yet and I love this show. Most of the talk shows like Maury, Ricki, Sally and Jerry are all trailer-trash. They don't mean anything. The talk shows that I have mentioned are nothing but people yelling, crying, fighting and violent. The show doesn't have any of that. It's people who freely speak their mind out and let their feeling out. If I were a actor and they'd ask me to be in this talk show, I would definitely say "yes". The rest of the other shows: N-O. I recommend this show to people who like the meaning of art. 10 out of 10.

Stanley Kubrick's best film
4 August 2000
Some of the people were really put off by this film because of the nudity of this film and the sexual nature. Let me point out, this was intended to be a art movie. There like pictures you see in the museum. Most parents who saw this film didn't like it because of the nudity. Because they just don't know the meaning of art. They think art movies are cartoons. It's bull. I think this is Stanley Kubrick's best film. Both Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman gave superb performance. It's about how people get lured into the world of sex an pay huge consequences. When i first saw this film, I was captivated. However, the funny thing is is that it had a twisted ending. I'll bet that when people walked out of the theater, they would yell out "That's it!" It's a shame that Stanley Kubrick passed away last year. We could have seen more of his work. Anyway, highly recommended for people who are fans of Tom Cruise or Mr. Kubrick. 10 out of 10
