Leave out the comparisons and cheer with the rest of the audience.
27 June 2006
Reviewers compared the leads across various Superman films, compared story lines, compared departures from the original Superman. I just compared the spontaneous cheers from the audience during this film to those during the Reeve movies and those that I felt as a child with the Reeves television version in the 50's. This movie had children, adults and seniors cheering, clapping and rooting for Superman as if he were real. We were quiet or laughing otherwise - totally absorbed. And there's no doubt about the special effects being some of the best that I've seen in any film to date. If you've ever spent an hour with your eyes racing from panel to panel or had your heart race with the idea of Superman or even just wished that humans and America could be as pure of heart as Superman then go, get your fix of goodness, and cheer with the rest of the audience.

Laugh me dead, Mate!
26 September 1999
One of the wonderful aspects of cinema is that all the various originality of a culture can be presented, in any combination, with their indigenous visual and aural realities. The arid outback, the aussie dialect, and the Down Under idea of Wacky combine in this oh-so-funny film to bring you to tears from laughing so hard. You'll find yourself rewinding to see a great slapstick scene again, or to hear exactly what someone said. A quick take will clarify a confusing one several scenes earlier causing renewed laughter yet again. When the credits began rolling I began laughing again at remembered shots still teasing my memory. And laughter isn't all this film has to offer - bits of poignance, ire, and mystery are added to the recipe to round out its flavor. The story could only have been told in Australia by Australians to acheive so great result. So, Laugh me dead, Mate, if this wasn't a gem of a film!

Geena proves she's a class act action star
11 August 1999
For action movie fans this is one to see and it has a very decent plot for a film in this genre. But the real reason to see this film is to watch Geena in a role type she was born to play - The Action Hero. Cutthroat Island only gave a brief glimpse of her brilliant take on this type of role but this film gives Geena the chance to show us a tough, gritty, confident and very sexy action figure and she shines brightly. Samuel Jackson is Geena's unwilling sidekick and, as such, provides a good taut believable performance. I don't think I've ever seen a file of his that I haven't liked; can you? One more comment: I hope to see GD in more roles like this.

Classic slapstick at its nouveau best
24 October 1998
Dreyfuss has always been a master of high humor and KT is another enjoyable vehicle for it. Elfman is funny and vivacious, as well as lovely to look at. Both stars work well together. I laughed throughout; appreciating the movie for what it was meant to be: good comedy. I recommend this film for anyone wanting a lot of good laughs.
