NetForce (1999 TV Movie)
A genuinly good "internet of the future" movie..
19 July 1999
It's not often that I watch a movie, and feel it necessary to jump straight onto IMDB and write about it - but this movie has been the exception to the rule.

A lot of films have recently tried to take a look at the state of the internet and indeed predict it's future. The sad fact is though that you usually end up with a "Hackers" type film with computer graphics and illustrations, that you rapidly loose interest in the story line and end up concentrating on the farcical user interfaces.

I am glad though that Robert Lieberman has managed to take a completely plausible plot written (excellently) by Tom Clancy. I am almost excited to report that the film is set in 2005 - and as such Lieberman was controlled in his use of Video Phones, Web Browsers, etc.

You wont find an distracting "disappearing" into the computer screen images here... but you will find a sensible, intelligent and very plausible look at voice activation, 3D chat rooms, GPS tracking, video phones, etc...

I'm a Brit., so forgive me for, point out the rather disappointing first 20 minutes. A very typically American piece of script writing leads to the usual "Independence Day" style speech's, funeral, and other character introductions.

However the film does not confuse you (despite a complex plot), will keep you guessing 'till the end, and doesn't distract with the hero/heroin scene's too much.

I enjoyed this film, and I recommend anyone who turned Hackers off after 10 minutes to watch this.

I would also urge ANY net-savvy user who has watch the net develop over the past few years to take a look at this movie. Someone did their Bill Gates/CERN/Encryption homework very well.

Loved Up (1995 TV Movie)
10/10
moving
7 June 1999
I saw this film on a dreary Monday night, and stumbled on it by accident. In 1995 I hadn't really witnessed the drug-culture surrounding the UK club scene - and this program really opening my eyes. Definitely the best feature of this moving film (other than a twist at the end) is the over-use of Leftfield's excellent track "Melt". If you like that track - you'll like this film. Superb stuff.
