Great original; great remake.

I loved Seven Days in May, and I loved this remake, as well.

Despite his girth, Forest Whitaker did a wonderful job.

The Cable Guy (1996)

Without redeeming social value and therefore obscene
16 August 2004
Carey, Broderick and Stiller collaborating on a comedy. What could be bad about that? The results!

Seldom has so much talent been put to such a mediocre end. As Ben Stiller's bubba might have said, "Drech!"

The only thing that annoys me more than this movie is my cable provider, who shall remain nameless.

My cable guy, however, is a great guy and actually saved my life, but that's a story for another screenplay.

However, if you liked the bulk of Steve Martin's (especially early) movies, you'll love this.

We really can rest at night knowing comedy is safe with Mary Gross
5 June 2003
This is one of my five favorite comedy movies.

Mary Gross gives an inspired and hilarious performance as the nerdy, neophyte, near-Fed.

Rebecca De Mornay is perfect as the straight foil for Mary, and Fred Thompson did a much better job of impersonating an FBI instructor than he ever did at impersonating a Senator.

Tony Longo as the sailor in the bar was also outstanding.

It also had a great beat, and was easy to dance to. I give it an 80, Dick.

Timeless excellence. Hang with it!

It seems it is the duty of the "older", to chant, on any topic, "They don't make 'em like they used!"

In my defense, this was slightly before my "movie watching time".

In the defense of this movie (not that it needs it), "They never did!

The script is incredibly creative, entertaining, and politically aware and responsive.

One of the curiosities of this movie is the apparent age of Hume Cronyn. In 1951, he looked old. Now, 51 years later, how old is he? Plays a great "heavy", though.
