The Americans: The Walk-In (2014)
Extremely fine episode, but...
No real review here. I enjoyed this excellent episode.
Overall, I think this was one of the finest dramas on television.
In this particular episode, I'm just curious as to why in one of the flashbacks, Leaanne and Elizabeth are so casually washing blood off their hands and there is no explanation as to what happened.
They were obviously on some kind of operation and waiting for someone to appear. They were chatting and carrying on so casually, I was a bit surprised to see Elizabeth suddenly become so focused when the dude finally showed up. (Of course her being so focused was completely in line with her character) It just surprised me and, like I said, I wanted to know more about what they had done.
Invisible Ghost (1941)
Watchable, but not really good except for Clarence Muse.
It's not a good film. Lugosi's character is kind of cartoonish. But, I must say, the servants in this movie are portrayed with a quiet dignity unusual for the 30's and 40's. The butler, as portrayed by Clarence Muse, is especially good.
Badkonake sefid (1995)
A Nice Slice of Life
This film is a nice "slice of life" of a culture different from my own. I can compare and contrast. This movie shows that children's perspectives are sometimes universal. I liked this movie. It is a simple story, simply done. The little girl that is the star isn't exactly a sympathetic character. Mostly because of her whining performance. This casting error seems to be the only flaw, but it is a major one. The young actor who plays her brother practically steals the show. I hope to see more of him in the future. Having said all this, I do recommend the movie.
To Sir, with Love II (1996)
A disappointment. No character development.
I watched this movie expecting to revive the feeling I got (and still get,,,though diminished) from To Sir With Love (1967), which is my favorite film. Sadly, I was disappointed. The connection between the two films is tenuous. The students' characters are not sufficiently developed for me to feel anything for them. Plus, there doesn't seem to be any real change in them by the end. It all seems quite unrealistic. Also, at some points I felt as if I was watching an "ABC After School Special"
