All Creatures Great and Small (1975)
Beautiful and Quaint
This was a light-hearted, sometimes moving, quaint little period piece. Based explicitly on Herriot's surprise bestselling autobiography of the same name, All Creatures Great and Small is a wholesome family film. The book is a collection of stories about Herriot's beginning years as an assistant vet, and the movie is basically the same. Very pure, and very enjoyable. I recommend it for families, and especially for animal-loving families. This movie won't change your life, but it will entertain you. (Watch for a great performance by a younger Anthony Hopkins, who plays the quirky Veterinary Surgeon that Harriot goes to work for)
The Prince of Egypt (1998)
Excellent movie tells an Excellent story
This movie is so incredible!! I never thought about that story the way it was presented in this movie. It seemed that Pharaoh was more sad that Moses left and turned to God rather to him than that his people died. Their relationship was the catalyst to the entire movie and it was their relationship that draws you in and makes you believe in this breathtaking epic. Religion separate friends, families and lovers everyday. Faith and duty provide a silent barier between the stubborn and the hopeful. I thought that was very prevalent in this film Great job of filmmaking by Dreamworks. I'm more than impressed, I'm touched.
The Sound of Music (1965)
This is the best musical of all time...
Ok, maybe not the best musical of all time. I just wanted to refute what the other user comment was. This was very good, however, and I just want anyone who does like musicals or just plain good movies to see it. Don't take it from me...take it from my mother, who loves this musical (she knows what she is talking about---mother always knows).
Psycho (1998)
Very good, but not needed...
This was a good idea...and it wasn't. Seeing a great movie retain most of its greatness in color and with 90's actors is pretty cool (especially because they used GREAT ACTORS). But shot for shot, I could have watched the old one. I guess it is worth seeing once...
Braveheart (1995)
I'm speechless...
I will never forget the look on Gibson's face after the first losing battle. This movie can reach out and touch someone. I don't know if I've seen any movie as many times as this one. If you never see any other movie, see this one. It is one of the greatest of all time.
Psycho (1960)
It is still scary...
I still cannot watch the shower screen without cringing. The soundtrack is one of---if not the greatest of all time. Without it, the movie would not be half of what it is. If you've never seen this movie, then see it. But I want to warn you that every now and then you will want to peek around the curtain when you take showers.
