"An Absolute Beauty"
9 August 2003
There is very little that I can say about this film that hasn't already been said. For all the critics that say that this is not a correct biography of Mozart, well.... I don't think it is meant to be that. What is is however, is a masterful piece of film. This movie is so well put together.... the writing, the acting , the editing, the cinematography. F. Murray Abraham's performance in this is jaw dropping. His gestures, his glances while he is telling the story as an old man are incredible. The anger and jealousy that he portrays are truly frightening! Some of the scenes in this movie stay with you for a long time.. for instance when Salieri recounts how moved he was when he saw "The Marriage of Figaro".. it was so beautifully written! I think his performance was standout like Meryl Streep's in Sophie's Choice. The rest.. the editing... the writing.. the costumes and sets are all wonderful. I consider this one of the best movies of the 80s. 10/10

An underrated film
18 July 2003
Oliver Stone's "Heaven and Earth" is a fantastic film that shows what the effects of war are on the human spirt. Now, more than ever this film is very poignant. The movie is based upon two of Lelay Hayslip's memoirs which chronicle her growing up in Vietnam and the effects of war upon her, her family and her country. It was fascinating and at times very difficult to watch. I couldn't help but thank God that as Americans we have not had to experience what the Vietnamese went through. The view of war that Stone portrays is very humanistic. One line in the film was especially riveting.... "Rebuilding a country after war is like having a family thru rape". We see how the war throws apart Lelay's family. If you haven't seen this film.. I highly recommend it!

Very humanistic and different approach to the Holocaust
5 July 2003
I thought the film was wonderful, although at times it was difficult to sit through. I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry. Most of the times I cringed. Most people were offended by the film's approach to the holocaust. Now that we look back on that time...... it is understandable that we are horrified. But, how did the people really cope at that time? How did they make it through day in and day out. I think that the film vividly shows us the spirit of the human soul. And yes, at times it is our imagination, which includes humor that helps us make it through.

Moulin Rouge! (2001)

Devastating!
14 January 2003
This is the second time I have seen Moulin Rouge. I can easily say that it is an amazing film! If you have not seen it... rent it or buy the DVD. After seeing Nicole Kidman's work on this film, I believe she will walk away with the Oscar this year for The Hours (as the Academy sometimes does). Her role was incredible and she did a fantastic job in it. Her singing along with Ewan Macgregor's is amazing. They had so much chemistry going on. I can't believe he was overlooked by the Academy last year! This is a film that explodes with color... and energy.. romance.. despair.. and of course love. I can't say enough about this movie. Yes.. it is an MTV style film, but the editing, the cinematography and originality (even thought they use old songs) are all top rate! I am very glad that I own this film in my DVD collection. 9 stars out of 10!

Out of Africa (1985)

A Masterpiece
18 February 2002
I have seen this movie a couple of times and with each viewing come away amazed at what a spectacular movie it is. OK..... its not exactly Lethal Weapon, but its not supposed to be. What it is however, is a wonderfully well written film that take us on a journey with Isak Dinisen and her travels in Africa. The love story I think is played out beautifully. What else can I say... the cinematography .. captures Karen's love of Africa so well. Scenes that include fields.. rains.. trees.. the simple joys of sitting in a chair surrounded by nature.. help the viewer to understand what an impression Africa must have had on her soul. The shots of Denys and Karen flying through the African landscape are some of the most spectacular ever. The soundtrack by John Barry.. magnificent. Meryl Streep's performance here is great.. I think only topped by Sophie's Choice. I can't believe this move isn't in the IMDB top 250! If you haven't seen it... watch it!

Pearl Harbor (2001)
Not Great, Not Bad.. definitely not what it was hyped to be
27 May 2001
Just came from seeing this long, average movie. Don't expect anything spectacular from Michael bay ever again. This was THE movie... his moment to shine and he failed. The trailers were spectacular... I couldn't wait to see the movie. Just a little disappointed. Michael Bay has created a typical "Hollywood" movie. Lots of style.. Lots of gorgeous people... 40 type pin up girls with lots of make up... lots of lots.... flashy.. glossy.... but thats it!! High School script.... spectacular cinematography ( an oscar nod probably) I agree with Michael Bay... he's not a historian.. hes a film maker. Hes payed to bring the studio $$$$, which he will do. Dont expect anything GREAT out of this movie. Titanic its not!

A huge disappointment
19 May 2001
Everything that made "The Mummy" entertaining and funny are missing from this movie. The original charm that lay in the relationship between Frazier and Weiss have been ruined by the fact that they are now married. Gone are the little inuendos and toying around with each other that made the movie fun. The dialogue in this movie is stale. Also, whoever said that more is better???? The movie was loud and too much stuff going on. I couldnt wait to get out of the theater and go home and watch the original "Mummy" on DVD. The only bright spot to the movie was their little boy Alex.
