Mia aioniotita kai mia mera (1998)
Suprisingly disappointing.
I guess my fault with this film was going into the cinema with such high expectations. Having read reviews and knowing the film was to be poetical, I was really looking forward to seeing it. It started with an extremely promising sequence with the children on the beach, but all was downhill from there. Suprisingly disappointing.
Lola rennt (1998)
Stylish, entertaining... and she has red hair!
Okay, she runs.... and she has red hair. I'm easily pleased - this alone is enough to entertain me. But to add to this, the film is also stylishly shot, well directed & acted, and set to a great sound-track. This film has a lot going for it. Certainly one I'll be looking to purchase soon.
Dance! Workout with Barbie (1992)
How cool is this video?!!
Wow! Now Dance Workout With Barbie is seriously funky!! And don't let anyone tell you it's just for kids!! I'm 16 and it knackered me out and I can also say it was greatly enjoyable!! Love-Hewitt is also especially groovy!!
Human Traffic (1999)
Wow - an unexpected greatness!
I went in expecting not much from Human Traffic and came out really pleased! The film is well made and acted and very stylishly shot. It has so much going for it - it's a film I really recommend, especially to those who liked Trainspotting (or for those who like to argue the debate in the drugs and the media sector). Tremendous fun.
Before Sunrise (1995)
My favourite movie of all time.
This film is so wonderfully intelligent and oh so pleasant! It's brilliantly acted and directed and isn't just the best low budget movie I've watched - it's my favourite movie of all time!! I never thought a movie could move me like this one did... The only bad thing is that you'll switch off at the end longing for it to happen to you!
Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)
A classic awful movie!!
Wow, this film is a total classic! That is, for being so awful! This film really is very poor, but will always have status in my video collection because there is no other in it that is as poor as this! I watched and I watched and you think, 'Alright, it's going to get going in a minute' and then the film finishes!! Honestly - you don't believe it until it's over! All I'll say to everyone is - you must watch it! You can't appreciate the good until you've seen the bad! And this is very bad!!
When You Remember Me (1990)
Fred Savage proves his talents.
Fred Savage (The Wonder Years) proves that he has capabilities way beyond what anybody would have expected of him. Playing the role of the disabled teenager in the true story could not have been easy, but he does so very convincingly. This film really makes you think about the conditions in homes for the disabled, and wonder how far the truth goes...
La vita è bella (1997)
A wonderfully pleasant masterpiece!
La Vita E Bella (Life Is Beautiful) is a wonderfully acted and wonderfully directed piece of art. The difficult theme is handled perfectly through the Oscar winning cast. A lovely film, one of the best pieces of cinema I've seen in a long time.
Sleepers (1996)
A shocking film to make you question humanity.
Sleepers is hard to call "wonderful" as the true story tackles such a difficult theme. However, it is made with precision and carefully packs what it can of the book into the film. This film is one of my personal favourites as very few pieces of cinema have made me think as this film did. I have also read the book which I would highly recommend - the film doesn't even come close to gripping you as much as the book - and the film is gripping!
Funny Games (1997)
A wonderfully acted and superbly directed drama.
Funny Games is not a film that knows limits. The superbly acted film (Susanne Lothar is absolutely wonderful in particular) gnaws at your emotions without letting up. The less than pleasant storyline in further improved by the immaculate directing of the piece. Not for the weak hearted, Funny Games is a film that Hollywood would not have the intelligence to make: a gripping, disturbing yet brilliantly made piece of cinema.
