In the Bedroom (2001)
Acting At Its Best
It's been a while since I haven't seen a movie in which all main characters are SUPERB. The director's work here was brilliant. Spacek and Wilkinsom are for me the Oscars for Best Actors of this year. One of the details I loved the most in this movie is that silence is one of the main characters, there's more said with silent moments than with words. And that's excellent writting and directing. Loved this movie!
Gaudi Afternoon (2001)
If You Like Almodovar's Movies This One's For You
Great cast, great performances, specially Judy Davis' and Marcia Gay Harden's. A funny detective-comedy with lots of twists, and outrageous, unconventional characters. Barcelona in full glory, proves to be a perfect stage. For Gaudi's architecture fans this is a must.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
AHEAD OF ITS TIME
This is the way average movies will look like in 10-15 years.
Luhrmann has not only made a masterpiece, he has revolutionized the way we watch movies. This is the most amazing
parade of colors, music, actors, grandiosity, operatic drama I have
ever seen in a long time. I had the sensation of watching a
sucession of Impressionist paintings. This is a feast for movie
lovers all over the world.
High Fidelity (2000)
The Ultimate John Cusack Movie
Excellent comedy with great performances, specially John
and Joan Cusack. If you love making music tapes for your
loved ones, this is your movie. Lots of laughs. I liked the
fact that the film recreates a world that is seldom shown in
movies.
Permanent Midnight (1998)
Amazing performance by Stiller
Although the movie is uneven in both some performances and situations, it's worth watching Ben Stiller powerful characterization of Jerry Stahl. There are scenes very difficult to watch due to extreme use of drugs. It's not for the average audiences. If you like to see good acting this one is for you to watch
Flawless (1999)
WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE
We've seen many stereotypes for "drag queens"(I don't like the term but it's helpful to make my point) in the past. This one is a real one. The range of emotions, the smart writting, and most of all the incredible performance by Seymour Hoffman make this character alive and believable. De Niro is great. But it's Hoffman who injects much life to this movie, makes it one of my favo
Head On (1998)
Did I see the same movie?
I just can't believe the acclaim for this film that tries so hard to say nothing. OK, the actor is gorgeous, but that doesn't make a movie. Everything is sordid in this mess of cultures. Straight audiences watching this would agree that homosexual life is a dark, full of drugs, animal sex, party all the time kind of life. I think gay community should be aware of how negative these type of films are. Depressing, dark
