Hell's Highway (2002)
Remember Folks, It Is Meant To Be This Cheap
What can I say, what can I say?? "Hell's Highway" is a piece of art. Well, not really but, then again, it was not meant to be. This is a straight to video movie about four friends traveling from PA to CA, who meet up with a "sexy thang" who just might be the devil herself, himself, itself...?? Look past the Matchbox Cars and the horrible effects(personally I liked the feel they bring to this movie), and what you get is no better or no worse then any other straight to video horror movie you have ever seen. With an ending that caught me off guard and, hold your breath, makes sense!@#, some decent acting, eye candy for both the men and the women, and a short enough running time to hold one's interest, you can do a lot worse then "Hell's Highway". P.S.- As a side note, these film makers obviously have an affection for what horror movies once were, the gratuitous nudity and all out gore show it!

Inspector Gadget (1999)
Wowzers, I loved it!!
I just saw Inspector Gadget today, and it was one of the most anticipated films of the year for me. Let me just say this, fun fun ,fun. If you remember the cartoon at all, you will appreciate it more then the average movie goer. Matthew Broderick plays bumbling security guard John Brown, who is blown to pieces by the evil Sanford Scolex{Rupert Evert} who loses his hand in the process and becomes the infamous Dr. Claw. Brown is put back together with the help of a Brenda{Joley Fisher}, the head scientist on the gadget project. With the aid of his new gizmos and gadgets, Inspector Gadget fights crime and makes the city of Riverton safe for everyone. I won't give any more of the plot away, I will just urge you to " Go Go to your theater" and see it.
PS- My only complaint is the lack of Penny using the phrase " Uncle Gadget", but I digress.

The Theory of Flight (1998)
I don't get this film
I just finished watching The Theory Of Flight. Its interesting plot and two stars drew me too it. Ask yourself, what is this movie really about. Everytime you think you have it figured out, something happens to contradict the message you thought it was sending. This movie is only worth watching for the chemistry between the two leads. The movie sparkled when they were on screen. I felt sympathy for both of them and believed in both of them. Other then that, this movie goes to the silly side way too often, and loses its beat. It should have stayed with a serious tone. *** 1/2 stars
A Simple Plan (1998)
Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.
Today, my first day of summer vacation, I viewed two films. One was the teen black comedy Jawbreaker which was decent, but the other was the perfect film A Simple Plan. I can not believe what a magnificent film this is. When it was in theaters, it never came near me so I did not get to see it. Had I, it would have been on my Ten Best List, most likely in the top 5. The acting is real and not over the top, the story mezmerizing and unpredictable, and the ending will go down as one of the classic movie endings of all time. It will stay with you, I guarantee it. This is a movie you want to, and should talk about. This is a truly great movie watching experience.
PS- For another of films most classic endings, see American History X.
Jawbreaker (1999)
Like the Jawbreaker, this is hard to swallow.
Well, on my first day of summer vacation, I took a trip to blockbuster to rent some movies I missed in the theater. I picked up A Simple Plan, HurlyBurly, and Jawbreaker. I sat down ready to be entertained, and for the most part I was. Jawbreaker is one of those movies. It barely fills its running time, and although it is skillfully made, the script, in a word, sucks. You all know the plot, so i am not going to explain it. First, what did I like. Well, I liked Pam Grier in her FIRST scene, that's it. Rose McGowan was ok, but I think the heart of this movie is Rebecca Gayheart. Let's face it, she is no great actress, but she gives a sweet, emotional performance. I also liked the look of the film, which was its high point. Everything else, I did not like. Maryiln Manson only made it into this because he is the b/f of Rose in real life. He is wasted. Other then Rose and Rebecca, the other girls are horrible. The movie, although a decent time waster, is just that. Like Norman Bates said in Psycho said " A hobby should pass the time, not fill it." So should a movie like this, but unfortunately you are very aware that you will never get that 1:30 min back, and in the long run you are better off skipping this.
