Jubilee (1978)
waste of time and potential
JUBILEE was the first film to come from the true British punk rock scene, and has a fascinating cast, but unfortunately this is one of the most boring, pretentious, and ultimately pointless movies I've ever seen. I defy anyone to stay awake through it.
The Love Butcher (1975)
great 70s horror movie trash!
They don't make them like this anymore. This over-the-top tale of a dorky gardener and his suave studly "twin brother" is one of the funniest horror movies of the 70s. It's goofy and tasteless, and not quite so inept that you ever think the humor is completely unintentional. It's enlivened by buckets of red paint that look nothing like blood and the sheer hilarity of seeing this ridiculous guy act like a ladies' man.
Midnight (1982)
great unknown low-budget horror film
MIDNIGHT the film is based upon Russo's novel, and is actually quite an improvement on it. Despite zero budget and rough acting, this movie generates some real creepiness and true suspense. I originally saw it at a drive-in, where it was retitled BACKWOODS MASSACRE, and was surprised by what a gritty and powerful movie it was. It creates the same kind of "no one can be trusted" atmosphere as ROSEMARY'S BABY, and stands head and shoulders above the early 80s horror movie competition.
Invasion of the Blood Farmers (1972)
the funniest bad movie ever!!
I love this movie to death. It's not just your typical boring low-budget bad horror movie, but a uniquely ambitious and absurd one, containing classic lines like "the more I scrub this bloodstain , the bigger it gets." Every time I watch it, I see something new. You gotta love how the little dog comes back to life at the end as a huge, fluffy dog, and how when the victims are attached to the machine it makes a bizarre sucking noise as it sucks their blood. Also filled with hilarious bad acting and perhaps the nerdiest romantic leads in bad film history. Ranks with GLEN OR GLENDA and BLOOD FREAK as the best of the worst, folks...
