L'odyssée de choum (2019)
A pretty, simple, cute and humorous 30 minutes
Was on telly and saw it with my two-year old. She loved it.
The story is simple, and in my view less about a foster mum and more about sibling love. It's adventurous, with the right light hardship, and makes no dents in the determination, love, and caring, driving the protagonist bird. And I did laugh out loud at the "45 degree angle scenes".
I don't do reviews despite having been on imdb for 20+ years and rating 4-5,000 movies, but I felt this cute, pretty, engaging and, at times, quite humorous story deserves to be seen. It's a light, well-prepared snack, anyone in the party will enjoy.
The Undead (1957)
The undead (MST3K version)
Brilliant.
Nothing less suffice. I guess I have seen about 70 MST3K films over the years, and this has to be the best. Stuff like "Future War" and "Outlaw of Gor" came close, but the quality of the jokes - and the sheer volume of them - makes this an almost non-stop laugh.
Also worth mentioning is that Mike and the bots laugh and snicker a lot more of their own gags along the way so you really get the impression that they enjoyed doing this more than others. This cannot help but make you laugh a bit more as well. Also the gags are quick to comment on the stuff that you, as a b-movie fan, spot yourself. Those are the best gags in my opinion.
The movie itself is suffering from mediocre acting, lack of extras and limited sets/locations - but knowing how the movie was filmed and that the budget was so limited (see trivia about the movie) then nonetheless a good effort - but not the director's best.
So on my scale with about 1400 films in the bag that would be a 4, since it at least progresses somewhat coherent and you get the overall idea. Also, only a handful of bad cuts. For the MST3K version it would be far up the other end of the scale. Go see it!
Invasion, U.S.A. (1952)
Stock footage, some plot and "a bombs" all over the place.
The movie opens with a group of people in a bar, as USA is attacked by an undefined enemy. Through the movie we follow the attack on the US, using 90% stock war footage and 10% shallow plot.
The invasion is viewed from a military angle and also how regular people respond to being invaded etc. In my opinion there is way too much stock footage to take it seriously.
MST3K version is fun at times, but Mike and the bots struggle. Do not watch this without MST3K.
The movie does have a "plot", and the movie does evolve, so in my book I cannot give it less than 2/10.
