Like Somebody Poured Syrup on Slayer
27 January 2012
Fantastic documentary if you love this style of music, or maybe just heavy music in general. Hank III, Phil Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, Mike Williams and plenty more give their thoughts on bible thumping, the rebel flag, musical influences, hurricane Katrina, gravy and sweet tea.

Some people like to wonder what it was like to be hanging around the Sunset Strip in the 80s, but this film is for the people who wonder what it was like to be stomping around the backwoods bars of southern Lousiana in the 90s. It's like getting punched in the face by a fist covered with a rebel flag.

Bands include Eyehategod, Torche, Dark Castle, Sourvein, Zoroaster, A Hanging, Haarp, Hawg Jaw, Black Skies, Ketea, Parasytic, Beaten Back to Pure, ASG, The Roller, Dixie Witch, Weedeater, Royal Thunder and more.

Easy On The Expectations
2 December 2009
Before I watched this I read through a lot of the comments to see people's general thoughts about it and a good majority of the people compared it to It's A Wonderful Life with many saying it's a much better movie even. I only wanted to add my 2 cents and say that I think it's a good movie and I'm definitely going to watch it every few holiday seasons as I've added it to my collection, but it's nowhere near the same level of a film as It's A Wonderful Life.

Sure it's fun, with good acting and overall being well made, but the story just isn't there, it's a bit hokey and it didn't really age that well. I gave it a 6/10 and recommend it for sure, but I'd hate to see people get all built up and then disappointed after viewing it, so I thought I'd offer a different view.

Also, it took me about halfway though to recognize the Skipper from Gilligan's Island. Awesome.

no redeeming qualities
27 June 2002
A visually stunning color-noir film set to a mind spinning Rock and Roll soundtrack? Did I watch the same movie? This movie was just total garbage. I can't find any redeeming qualities to mention. The editing, acting, and storylines were so bad it was tough for me to finish. The only reason I hung on until the end was to see how they would wrap up this terrible joke. It wasn't worth the wait. Hard to believe it cost $75,000 to make this, seems more like $5,000. One of the worst movies I've ever seen.

The Stepdaughter (2000 Video)

decent idea, poor execution
9 May 2001
The Stepdaughter? After watching this I am left wondering why it was even called that? Was there even a stepdaughter in it? Was Susan/Karen someone's stepdaughter?

But, on to the movie itself. It was interesting enough to keep you watching and wondering a little, but most of the time I spent groaning and rolling my eyes at the various plot holes and silliness. At times it is amazingly predictable, other times mildly suspenseful, but most times only slightly entertaining. My favorite cliches include the little "idiot" boy saving the day, the bumbling lawman, the good-looking big stud farm hand trying to force himself on her, and "I'm so crazy I talk to my doll". Then after all the buildup and clues start coming together... the payoff is very weak I felt.

I don't want to be all negative about any film, so I'll say that Andrea Roth does a good job as does Lisa Dean Ryan I thought. At least for what they had to work with.

4/10
