Facade (1999)
Ah, the quirkiness kicks arse!
I really liked this movie. I agree with the one who compared this to Hudson Hawk. I loved Hudson Hawk and this movie did remind me of it. And I'll agree with another user who compared this to "hotel softporn," except I tend to like the hotel softporn aspect of it, like most guys I know. Some chics are pretty hot. Most of all, I really liked the off balance humor. It is no "Tommy Boy" or "Plains, Trains and Automobiles" but it has its moments. I say give this movie a shot. You may even dare to like it!
For Love of the Game (1999)
Ah, another legendary baseball movie...
I caught this one at a sneak preview. As I have always been an avid baseball enthusiast, I had wanted to see this once since I first saw the poster. I have seen his two previous baseball film endeavors and I enjoyed them both(especially Field of Dreams) and I waited with expectancy. It didn't let me down.
I grew up playing baseball and pitching as well. I never had a perfect game but always wanted one. This movie was one long game with lots of flashbacks. I don't normally like flashback movies, but I made an exception this time. The characters in this movie were all played believably and well. Even the actress who portrayed the character of "Heather" did a good job of changing over 5 years. The fans were great, especially the one in the bar.
This movie should be a good hit. It had a lot of elements that I think make a great movie...and most of all, I really enjoyed the entertainment it provided. I highly recommend it.
Hurlyburly (1998)
an opinion that is not favorable...
A waste of money, time, and brain activity. I expected to be somewhat entertained because of the players, but I was disappointed. I think highly of all the main actors in their ability to crank out excellent films (except Penn)and I thought such a great gathering of them would outdo any movie ever made. This movie was filled with dialogue that just makes you wish duct tape could go from your living room, through the television, and cover some lips.
I was never amused. I never weeped. I was never very shocked. At first I tried to think of where the movie was heading and within the first half hour I wished it was heading back to the video store. The plot was nonsensical in all aspects. I endured the whole movie but it was difficult. I didn't see anything that made this movie even remotely socially redeeming. Steer clear of this one.
