Robert Schimmel: Unprotected (1999)
Come on, where's the video?
Yeah, I gotta agree with the previous reviewer. This is a 10/10. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard. It first aired here (Canada) a few months after HBO. I happened to catch it, just by chance, and loved it so much I told all my friends to make sure to watch the repeat. They all loved it too. I only wish I had taped it. I figured it would be out on video and DVD and I could pick it up legit. Oh well.
If HBO or whoever is reading, PUT IT OUT ON VIDEO!
Pin (1988)
A movie that defies a one-line summary.
I watched Pin late one night on CBC, not because I wanted to see it but because I was a teenager and wanted to stay up late watching TV. Anything would do. But after watching Pin, I was disturbed and I thought about it for days. I didn't want to think about it, but I couldn't stop.
You can't exactly call this a good movie. The current IMdB ranking (6.5) is bang-on. But there's something about it -- maybe that we all know someone like Leon, or that no other movie follows this storyline exactly -- that makes it worth viewing. At the time all I knew was that it was a low-budget Canadian horror -- not exactly a genre renowned worldwide.
This isn't a slasher flick, and it isn't a pure horror. It's more like a psychological thriller, and in that regard it succeeds better than you'd think. In this case, to be trite, the whole is more than the sum of the parts.
