Swimming Upstream (2003)
A fine Australian film
2002 seems to be a good year in Australian cinema, both in quantity and quality of films. This film fits in the latter category and has a superb performance from Geoffrey Rush.
While this is a period piece, set in the late 50's and early 60's, there is no need to be familiar with this period and it should translate well to other countries as while it is an Australian story it could have happened anywhere.
While the split screen initially seemed unnecessary I think in the end it added to the race scenes.
The Master of Disguise (2002)
Rubbish
The Disguise was effective, there could have been a 5 minute sketch hiding in there but you would have been hard pressed to identify it. I find it hard to find anything good to stay about this film except possibly the pain didn't last very long. The out takes during the end credits were probably funnier than the film but that isn't saying much.
Eye of the Beholder (1999)
The value of something is in the eye on the beholder but ...
The one word summary for this film is "incomprehensible". So far the worst film I have seen all year. It was hard to follow and in any case it didn't seem to be going anywhere anyway. I'm surprised that the actors saw any reason to be involved with this film.
