The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland (1999)
A decent film for kids, and those kids at heart who miss the street
Previous reviewers have been right in stating that this film pales in comparison to 1985's "Follow That Bird", but then again it is hard to beat perfection! Anyway this movie definitely has more of an appeal for kids than it does for adults (although there is some decidedly adult references that'll fly over kids heads slipped in for good measure). Anyone who feels nostalgic for the street and who wants to see how the adult actors and muppet characters are doin these days should also be interested. *lol* There are also some good celebrity cameos thrown in, although not nearly as many as there were in "Follow That Bird".The bottom line is that this is a decent movie, and i'd definitely reccomend renting it or watching it on tv.
Flawless (1999)
Great flick
What a great movie! Since I'm usually too absorbed in watching the movie, I didn't consider any plot holes, bad writing, etc. And frankly I don't care as long as a movie entertains me. And this one definitely did! DeNiro was great, but Hoffman was better. Any time a straight actor plays a gay character so convincingly it's amazing. A very humorus part of the movie occurs when Hoffman teaches DeNiro The Name Game song.
The Exorcist (1973)
One of the best
In terms of sheer terror this movie is definitely one of the best films of all time. For me, this movie ranks right up there with The Omen. It's too bad that inferior sequels were made to these movies. One subtle scene that definitely underlies the terror of this movie and which describes the character of the devil is the bar room scene, in which The Allman Brother's "Ramblin' Man" plays on the jukebox. Both the subtle scenes like this one and the more direct scenes of the movie add to the appeal of this everfresh movie. I can't wait to see the newly re-released version in the theatre.
The Amityville Horror (1979)
Not that bad, but not that good.
A previous reviewer was absolutely correct, this "fact based" movie is mediocre, and many of the adult actors in this film definitely do overact. It takes a very scary "non-fiction" book and bastardizes it for the big screen. From what i've seen and read I definitely believe something happened in the Lutz's house but the book and the film overexagerate some very mundane events. Anyway the bottom line is that this movie is definitely worth watching on tv but I wouldn't pay to rent it.
The Sure Thing (1985)
Good 80's teen film
Why don't they make teen comedies like this anymore? This definitely out-shines "Drive Me Crazy", "10 Things..."etc. I saw this movie for the first time recently and in watching this film you can definitely see that John Cusack's career was on the rise as was Tim Robbins'. Zuniga also does a great job. This movie is definitely recommended.
