X-Men (2000)
Try Try again.
I was very disappointed upon seeing the film, having waited for so long, which is not to say it was a bad film just not what I'd hoped for. Firstly the film was way too short with the minimum of plot and character development, secondly what happened to Gambit and The Beast. Also rogue was nothing like the sassy suthern gal' of the animated series, rather she was a whimpering puppy. I suppose if you have never heard of the x-men, then this is a worthwhile introduction, otherwise I would wait for a sequel with more characters and a half-decent plot. Having said all that the action was excellent and the acting was generally of a high standard, though barring a few exceptions the film wasn't particularly original or gripping. 7/10
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Splendid action
A fantastic film to see in the cinema, some really excellent set-pieces along with a magnificent thumping score. The story line is pretty basic, but it does not really matter. The dialogue is kept to a minimum generally and so there is non of the gut wrenching stupidity of street fighter/mortal Kombat Annihilation. Essentially this is an entertaining way of spending one and a half hours. Best to see in cinema, second best get it on DVD and watch it on a big wide-screen TV.
American Beauty (1999)
Much Ado about nothing
The film seemed to be saying a lot; its just that I didn't seem to hear much. Interesting but a bit dull. I may have to see it again to appreciate its full glory :). Personally the acting was the best thing about this film (Kevin Spacey and Annette Benning). Maybe you have to be American or middle aged (preferably both?) to fully appreciate this. 7/10. Whatever.......
The Fly (1986)
Orgasmic
Simply the best movie ever made, definitely the best sci-fi horror flick. This film is just so classy and insane its unbelievable. Jeff Goldblum is excellent, even more than usual. There is some sick humour but not cheesy or cheep. There is a really gross ending and just the whole thing is damn spectacular. Repeated viewing is compulsory. Not really frightening so much as entertaining. Superrrrrrb.
