The Munsters (2022)
6/10
Big on style, small on substance, scattered chuckles throughout
2 November 2022
I was really looking forward to this one, and would still say that I enjoyed it some, but just barely. I was totally on board at first. The look and feel were great and the characters were cast well enough (I know a lot of folks complain about Sheri Moon but it's a Rob Zombie film, and besides subpar acting has always found a happy home in genre films), and it was fun to watch. I enjoyed the hokey humor, and laughed out loud a few times. However, it wore out it's welcome pretty quick. The story was just not there, and the just sort of hodge podge of things happening became quite a slog over the nearly two hour runtime. I feel like if they had done it as an hour long Halloween special in a variety show inspired format it might have worked a lot better. That or a just a decent script. All in all, it succeeded in the style department, but had no story or anything else of substance to carry it. I cannot see myself having any desire to revisit it at any point in the foreseeable future, but if they wound up making a sequel, I imagine I would still check that out.
