Spoof! An Insider's Guide to Short Film Success (2000)
a very funny and well-executed take on the recent phenomenon of short films that have saturated hollywood.
young filmmakers have recently come to view the short film as a "calling card" and ticket into directing feature films and television. often made with so-called "mci money" (i.e. friends and family) these films are frequently satiric responses to other films that have struck a chord with the public. this helps gives an instant frame of reference for the viewer rather than wasting precious time setting up a unique world and environment in what usually only amounts to 10-15 minutes. spoof! - as its name implies - is funny on a couple levels because it is making fun of just that phenomenon: that is, spoof! essentially spoofs spoofs, which is a very clever and timely idea. writing, directing and performances are all very strong here, and there are loads of laughs. i liked it a lot.
