Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
I felt right back in the 1960s in LA
I missed this film when it came out and saw it pop up as available on a streaming service. What a treat. If you lived through the 60s in southern California, you are immediately going to travel back in time. The story is focused through the lens of a couple of fictional characters from that time period, yet you are walking through sets of events that actually happened. I lived through that period in that area and all the unavoidable news casts of the events and subsequent trial brought back lots of memories. It gave me a dark foreboding feeling about where the movie was headed. At the same I marveled at how that time period was captured on film over 50 years later. Needless to say, the ending caught me completely by surprise! Bravo to all those people that made this film. Truly a great work of art!
Inside Man (2006)
Excellent movie - highly entertaining
Wow. I liked this movie from the beginning music to the reprise of it with the closing credits. For me, it was one of those movies that kept my interest from beginning to end. Well acted, well directed and well filmed with a plot that kept you guessing and thinking. The use of flash aheads, while often distracting in many films, work quite well in this one.
Special kudos for Denzel Washington and Christopher Plummer. Denzel's acting seems effortless and draws you into the movie. Plummer is the perfect person to despise. With very little dialogue, just mannerisms and attitude, you form an instant dislike for his character.
Fresno (1986)
Best spoof ever!
My favorite scene from this mini-series is when the person, in the middle of the trial suddenly bursts out their guilt in a passioned plea. Then realizes they are in the wrong courtroom. Carol Burnett, Dabney Coleman, Charles Grodin and Teri Garr are exceptional in their portrayals. This should definitely be on DVD!
Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957)
If you rated this above a 1, you didn't watch it
Sitting through this movie is as bad as listening to someone sing your favorite song off key. The production values are non-existent, the acting is so poor that it can't really be called acting, the sound is atrocious and I can't really believe that someone actually edited this film.
