Talk to Me (I) (2022)

Very Good
30 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is definitely the best horror movie I've seen this year. I went in expecting nothing thinking it would be a Truth or Dare type of hollow experience. I was pleasantly surprised based on no knowledge of this movie.

However, it was very derivative of other movies such as Hereditary, Smile, Society (1989), The Skeleton Key (the ending twist...), The Ring, various episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark (Quicksilver, Magicians Assistant, Super Specs) and even Goosebumps (Let's Get Invisible...).

So don't go in expecting something you haven't seen before, as all the aforementioned have bits and pieces in this movie. Intentionally, or not intentionally, this is not a new concept. The whole drug allegory/glorified drug use on social media is very obvious too. The satire is well done with one hilarious montage.

What is good is the direction, the acting, and the plot. There are genuinely disturbing moments. There is a sense of dread and desperation in these characters (similar to Hereditary) that is gripping.

The very ending is chilling and left me feeling sad how it all played out.

I fear this movie may get overhyped since the bar is so low with recent horror movies. It is not a scary movie by any means. Also it seems like every recent horror movie is obsessed with characters having "trauma."

Anyway, it is worth a watch. 7.5/10.

The better horror movie of 2022
2 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, I would rate it a 6.5/10 but because of how TERRIBLE other recent releases were (Terrifier 2, The Barbarian, Halloween Ends...or the hand sanitized Scream 2022 reboot - how much are reviewers being paid for promoting these!????) this stands out against the bunch.

There's no overly convoluted plot lines, there's no cheap gore, and the plot is very simple yet effective.

Yes it's the same idea as The Ring or It Follows, which is not a bad thing. It's much gorier than those two and deals with passing down trauma and mental illness in a less preachy way than most "elevated" horror.

The jump scares are decent. The acting is good from Sosie and Kyle.

This is very much in the vein as Sinister (2022).

Is it scary? No.

Is it well-made, entertaining and effective? Yes.

Is it predictable? Yes.

One of a kind
24 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this movie when it came out. It still holds up 25 years later. The acting is top-notch. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillipe ate up every scene. The casting is one of a kind: the most beautiful teen actors of the late 90s all in one movie. There is not another movie with such an attractive cast (that can act).

The storyline and plot are straight forward slasher "one year later," but what sets this movie apart is the drama. You feel the distance between the main group after the events in the beginning. Kevin Williamson is a genius when it came to writing drama and teen characters, and this was pre-Dawson's Creek. In fact, this movie is basically a cross between an episode of Dawson's Creek and a WhoDunnit slasher. I wish we had more of these movies that took the time and built characters.

The "scares" may not hold up after all the knock-offs, and parodies (Scary Movie did an amazing job at parodying this). The grief and guilt aspect does. The suspense is great, and it may have been one of the last movies that had a memorable chase scene. The kills and gore were quite tame (especially since Kevin's Scream was quite gory for it's time).

The ending confuses people, which I find surprising since it's not complicated.... They ran over the fisherman (Ben Willis) who killed David Egen (the guy the main 4 THOUGHT they had ran over). Because the fisherman wasn't dead, but David Egen was, they thought it was the body.

This remains one of my top horror movies of all time, and it is one of a kind. It's unfortunate the good writing went unnoticed because of how it was marketed. This is a teen drama with a third act of a slasher movie. Watch this in a different perspective...

Terrifier 2 (2022)

Exhausting to watch
22 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first Terrifier, despite that "scene," was brutal and scary in that 80s slasher way. I had no idea how brutal or anything about this movie going into it. In the end I wasn't a huge fan of it, but it was well-done for what it was.

This movie is just gross and boring. It's like Hostel/Saw, after the initial shock of the "torture porn," it's just gross and exhausting to sit through. There's no plot beside main two brother and sister having a father that predicted the events inside a sketch book. Having no plot for a slasher movie isn't a bad thing, but when you throw in elements like the sketchbook, "clown cafe" or the female clown.... You want some answer?

The after credit scene is just hilarious imo how anyone can find this movie scary is beyond me. It's like a live action episode of Itchy and Scratchy.

Anyway, the hype is unwarranted. There's signs of creativity and I think if they expanded that instead of trying to find new ways to gross people out, this would have been a better movie.

It's ok.... Very similar to "Gingerbread" episode of Buffy
10 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I randomly watched this movie without any details. Immediately I thought of Slenderman and all those stories. However, as soon as Parents started removing their devices and... the hysteria.... Wasn't this similiar the "Gingerbread" episode from Buffy Season 3!!!

It's very similar, where the parent's hysteria were allowing a monster to come after their kids.

Anyway, if you seen that episode you would be underwhelmed even more by this movie.

The acting was decent. The "monster" was very CGI but I liked the design of it. There's no gore or kills in this.... I don't know what this movie is rated but it is reminiscent of those mid-2000s PG-13 horror movies (which Shannon Sommoson would star in and is now playing the mom here).

The good: I liked the concept of parental anxiety "attacking" the kids allegory.

The bad: the concept wasn't done well. It didn't help that the Buffy episode covered this concept in 1998. There were also a lot of plot holes and loose ends in this.

Verdict: watch it and forget it.

For fans of Christopher Pike
8 October 2022
Finally, after decades, we get a good adaptation of the Christopher Pike novels. It stays pretty close to the books, thankfully! Yes there is some "netflix" changes to a few stories but it's fine. People comparing this to AYAOTD or how it "isn't scary" etc. These were teen fiction novels from the early 90s.

I think it's genius they blended The Midnight Club with other Pike novels like Road to Nowhere (my personal favourite Pike book), See You Later, Witch, Wicked Heart, Eternal Enemy, and Gimme a kiss. I hope there's future adaptations as I would love to see an updated version of Chain Letter, Slumber Party, Whisper of Death, etc. I really wished they did this for the Fear Street novels.

For fans of Christophet Pike, here is the adaptations we've waited decades for!

Why is this hyped? Worst sequel to an amazing Franchise
14 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Clearly most of these reviews are paid reviewers. It's absolutely insane how something as mediocre and predictable as this one gets love and in the same vein people diss or hate 2-4.

How did the directors cast and wrote this movie?

1. "It's like in Silence of the Lambs when Jodie Foster had visions of her dead father" LETS MAKE BILLY HAVE A CAMEO AS THE DEAD FATHER!

2. "Why can't I be in a Meg Ryan movie..." LETS CAST MEG RYAN SON AND MADE HIM THE KILLER!

3. "We all go a little bit mad sometimes." - Lets add a Psycho Shower Scene

4. "Horror movies don't create psychos it makes them more creative!" The Stab Movies created 2 psychos and made them not creative one bit.

5. Lets make them ALL related to the original cast.

Freaking dreadful. Anyone defending this movie clearly cannot be a fan of the original 4 movies. The fact I'm in the minority shows exactly we haven't had a good sequel in 11 years and probably won't ever again.

The good parts: always nice seeing the OG3 in the limited and poorly written role (are these even the same characters???? Wtf), the brutalness was good but kills were not memorable or suspenseful. The eastereggs.

The bad parts: no suspense, no twists, no surprises, annoying leads, horrible retcon of billy cheating on sid, almost no screentime for any of the characters that die so you don't care.

This franchise is done for. Rest in peace Wes, we would never had gotten this if you were around.

Chucky (I) (2021– )

Child's Play Chucky is Back!
13 October 2021
The entire feel and vibe is back to "Child's Play" circa Chucky. The look, the storyline, etc.

We have different settings, and an actual production value (gone is the cheap isolated feel of Curse and Cult). While I enjoyed the "Chucky" movies, the main three films focused on Chucky killing those who wronged Andy and now we have a new person at the forefront.

The first episode is great, and has the perfect balance of drama and humour (akin to Child's Play and Child's Play 2).

Why it took nearly 30 years to recapture the feeling of the first 3 films we may never really know, but I am more than happy it is finally back to what the "Child's Play" series did so well.

Hoping the next 7 episodes get better and we get more seasons. For now, I am just thankful we finally get the real Chucky back and it's not some cheap VOD type of deal.

Way better than "Curse"
2 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Curse of Chucky was terrible. Low budget, boring kills and dialogue, and the atmosphere was never fully realized. Thankfully, this VOD sequel fixed all those mistakes. Child's Play 1 and 2 will always be the best in the series, and one thing lacking in CP2 was finally in this franchise (multiple Chuckys). For most part this sequel was fan service, much more than Curse tried to be. We get everyone from Andy, Tiffany /Jennifer Tilly (all in small doses).

The storyline is standard fare. What makes this sequel work is it is a lot more fun and bizarre, and it never gets dull. Even when things don't make sense with the multiple Chuckys, it is something new and enjoyable. The acting overall is decent for what it's worth.

The flaws is Andy never mentions what happens to his mom, the movie rnds rather abruptly, and again like in Curse of Chucky, the plot is severely hindered by the lack of budget. Chucky still doesn't look like Chucky but it is much better than the botoxed mess he looked like in Curse. I personally hate stitched face Chucky and in this movie Chucky is finally a killer DOLL again like the original 3 movies. The biggest flaw it is just very abrupt... the ending, the backstory about Alice, the actual voodoo jargon used for multiplying Chuckys...

Those who complain about this movie... and yet enjoyed Curse... are entilted to their opinion. However this movie felt more like an actual Child's Play sequel in line with the first 3 movies.

I'd recommend fans of first three sequels to watch it as it fan service for those fans. This had the right mix of comedy/horror in line with CP2/CP3.

Something fresh, new and amazing!
2 August 2009
Okay let me first start with the fact the first half of season one was clichéd, boring and dumb. So it would explain why people where bashing it when it came out.

Perhaps the writers listened to our complaints, and decided hey, let's just do what we want.

And by god, this show became GREAT! Bipolar Silver. Annie getting bitchy. Naomi's fits and her sister are just so funny! Adriana became a likable character and her and Navid make an interesting couple.

Jessica Lowndes is absolutely stunning, and Shenae Grimes is getting better and better with acting.

Overall, give it a chance and you will be surprised, it's fresh, funny and has a good dose of drama that isn't redundant but fun!

Mean Girls (2004)

Really Funny!
26 June 2004
When I went to see this, I thought, "Oh No, It's Probably some tacky Sex Comedy Like American Pie, or something dumb like Lizzie Maguire," but i was wrong, Very wrong.

This Movie Was Actually Funny! It was very Real, compare to other movies. Cady, A girl whose been home schooled her whole life, finally goes to a real school, full of preps, goths, geeks etc, and befriends two misfits, who want to get back at these popular girls called The Plastics, and the plastics want to befriend Cady, So Cady Uses The Plastics, and tries to screw them over and stuff. Its really enjoyable and fun!

The funniest Part is the part were all the girls are saying sorry, then this fat random girl comes up. Ha Ha Go to the theaters and Watch it now.

The only downfall for me was the ending wasn't that exciting, it was all like, Oh Accept yourselves and blah blah, end like a typical movie, but deserves nothing less than a 8/10!!!
