I saw the original when it came out in 1976 and now this one which I felt like I was watching a video game with their cheap CGI rather than a movie. On the plus side, there was no Matt Garth, not "I'm in love with a Japanese woman" junk and the Japanese spoke, well, Japanese but that was about the only redeeming value. And just like the movie Pearl Harbor, they went to a brief clip of Yamamoto uttering the line "I fear that all we have done was to awaken a sleeping giant......." and just like Pearl Harbor, the audience who has little clue of the history of the Pearl Harbor attack, do not know why he would've said such a thing or even thought it since it's still debatable if he actually said that line in real life or something similar. In Tora! Tora! Tora!, the audience knew exactly why such a line would've been said. The flying sequences were downright ridiculous with planes flying so low that they flew in between the battleships and 20 feet off the ground and down a street and in between buildings, trees and telephone poles or the way Dick Best would land his plane on the carrier. I just wish these movies would focus more on the historical accuracies rather than focus completely on dazzling us with their CGI. At least this wasn't a romance movie in which a war inconvenienced them and Benn Affleck taking to the skies during the Pearl Harbor attack, and taking part in the Doolittle Raid, after coming back from England of course where he defeated the German Luftwaffe!

Some of the posters couldn't seem to grasp that the comedy was not in the way the movie was scripted but in the acts of many of those responsible for the design of the Bradley. It was a comedy of errors that only two people wanted to correct and were fought tooth and nail, all the way. General Smith put it the most accurately when Lt. Col. Burton asked him to whom the enemy was when he said "To majors who want to be colonels, to colonels who want to be generals, to generals who want that fourth star, you bet we are the enemy! Nobody moves up without getting things done! So what you don't want to be is the one who drops the ball, 'cause if you're the one who drops the ball: no promotion! no star! no cushy job with a contract when you retire!" No one wants to be that person to throw a monkey wrench into the process and all too often, we see our leaders putting their own interest ahead of those whose lives depend on their equipment. The story in the movie about the M-16 rifle was a perfect example.

I'd give it a 0 out of 10 rating but it won't let me. The acting was awful and not funny. The laugh track was very annoying and overused. I am a big fan of the movie and the TV series from the early 70's. I even enjoyed The New Odd Couple remake with Demond Wilson and Ron Glass, though that was short lived so when it was announced there would be yet another remake, I looked forward to it. Boy, was I ever disappointed and I had to force myself to watch the complete pilot but won't be coming back to watch any of the next 6 episodes. I think even CBS knows it is going to bomb, that's why they only filmed 7 episodes. The person I feel sorry for is Neil Simon, because his name is attached as the creator, even though he may have absolutely nothing to do with the making of this show. If I was him, I would be calling CBS begging for them to take my name off the credits!

I've been reading many of the reviews and comments here and the message boards by many who just don't get it or seem to have a sense of humor. I first saw this movie at the drive-in when I was a young boy. My parents didn't have to keep telling us to cover our eyes unlike the movies of today. You look at many of the movies like Ghostbusters, Click etc. where they just had to stick in inappropriate scenes unlike the family movies back in those days.
You also have to place yourself during the middle of the Cold War in the 60's when the belief was that all Russians were evil and wanted to destroy us. Even a cartoon like Rocky & Bullwinkle, with the characters Boris and Natasha, was teaching us the Russians were evil and this movie comes around showing they are as human as the rest of us and pokes fun as to the paranoia and suspicion that let's everyone's minds run away from them.
I guess I'm old fashioned though because I just don't get today's movies which runs short on a plot and reality and just can't help with all the CGI, massive explosions and massive gunfights.

Are the days gone when Hollywood could turn out a good movie and not fill it with a bunch of cliché's and utter ridiculous? I too was looking forward to seeing this movie after seeing the trailers but was very disappointed. A young girl calls 911 because of someone breaking into her residence. An officer is immediately dispatched and in a large metropolitan area it's taking 8-10 minutes to get there? The girls house is rather big and dark but of course the suspect goes right to the bedroom she's hiding in then when he hears the phone from downstairs, he pinpoints it right back to that room and under the bed? You also have a major police department with a large communications center. You have separate people who take the 911 phone calls and type in the information which is then transmitted to the separate and actual dispatchers but here we had Halle Berry doing both. And does it instantly go dark in California at a certain time? The officers are at the suspects residence and determine he has a cabin in the woods. It's still light out but when they raid the cabin, it's completely dark. Did they stop off to have dinner first, get caught up in rush hour traffic, the helicopter and it's thermal imaging system was in the shop?
Then the most ridiculous part was Berry showing up herself and checking the cabin then when realizing this is the location he was calling from, does she call 911 or her boyfriend? Nope, she has to investigate further and of course,she has to drop her phone but rather than getting in her car and driving to the nearest checkpoint, she has to be the hero then vigilante. God I miss the movies of my generation!

I really wanted to like this show because Dennis Quaid, Jason O'Mara and Michael Chiklis are in it but it's a little too far fetched. A ranger is plucked from his ranch and becomes instant sheriff? I can picture the ACLU and Justice Department being all over someone like this if they existed in real life, the way he walks around with his unlawful use of force, entering property without a warrant etc. I can also imagine what seeing 3 cowboys with rifles entering a casino will do for the tourism.
Then you have the brother and son walking around, asking suspects questions etc., what experience and authority do they have? Has anyone ever heard of the U.S. Constitution that even existed in 1960? It's like I'm watching Walking Tall meets Walker-Texas Ranger. I would say the only difference between these characters and the thugs is that these characters have a badge but I don't even remember seeing any of them wearing one. Maybe it would've worked better had the series been set in 1860 instead when the west was lawless in many of the territories, no ACLU to worry about.

Good series despite some issues

This is the only show I watch on network TV, which isn't saying much. It has that Jack Webb sense about it in which they show a more polished department and officers, which are always so helpful and has the time to dedicate to the little stuff and solves every crime. These officers are not rookies, they're supercops, able to solve every crime in a single bound or should I say....60 minutes! It does give you a slight insight of the people real police officers have to deal with on a daily basis and the emotions they must feel, now only if they could develop sensorsmell for the TV. It'll have you fleeing your homes.
I was disappointed with one episode in which it looked like the series was heading for most of the officers to start having relations with their partners or other officers in the same precinct. This is why I only watched NYPD Blue for a couple of seasons, it was turning into a soap opera just as ER did and all these other drama's. Why the writers in Hollywood have to ruin these shows is beyond me but if they continue down that path with NYC 22, it'll last as long as Brooklyn South. And for us old fogies, can you lose the opening theme song?

My wife rented this movie last week and had I seen it in the theaters, I would've walked out because it was that bad. I know this character has issues but he was just annoying throughout the whole movie and the way he was portrayed just ruined the whole thing. I kept asking myself as to why the mother wasn't getting him professional help because his character certainly needed it.
The premise of the movie in finding what the key went to and how he eventually tracks down the owner was really far fetched. Also, if this was real life, someone should be calling Child Protective Services on the mom because her young son is out walking the streets alone and she doesn't know where he is at all times? I guess he's the male version of Dora the Explorer.

Cliff Gorman and Joe Bologna play 2 cops but they can be just about anyone else in any profession. Just 2 guys trying to make a living and support their families in the craziness of New York City. Even though they are corrupt, you can't help but feel sorry for them because all they are trying to do is survive. We soon find out that everyone else is just as corrupt, from the grocery store manager who justifies walking out of the store each day with a sack of groceries as a "prerogative of my managerial position", to the executive and his secretary at a Wall St. securities firm padding the amount stolen so they can keep a little for themselves to the crooked mobsters who weren't going to let anyone keep the money in return for the stolen bonds.
This was just a nicely made, lighthearted movie with a good cast of actors and takes us back to the 70's. There's no sex scenes, no wild ridiculous explosions, no actors doing the physically impossible, no computer generated graphics, just a nice clean (and corrupt) movie. It's movies like this that Hollywood needs to go back and remember a time that you had quality, and not quantity with the garbage they are throwing into them today.
I would like to see this movie released in Blu Ray and with the scenes added that regular DVD version cut.

Horrible movie which did the same for The Tuskegee Airmen (1995) that Pearl Harbor did for Tora! Tora! Tora! Watching the movie, I felt like I was watching a Playstation game. The computer generated graphics were so unreal looking, unlike past WWII movies like Memphis Bell, Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. I expected far better from George Lucas but he made it look as if I was watching another of his Star Wars movies and his pilots were attacking the Death Star. There was also just too much unrealism like the P-40's appearing far superior to the ME 109's when in reality, it was the other way around. Or the four P-40's attacking the Luftwaffe base and practically destroying the whole base with little damage to themselves. Or the P-51 attacking the German destroyer causing massive explosions all throughout the ship, not to mention that by 1944, German surface ships were pretty much non-existent. And the B-17 bomber was a tough airplane and not brittle like the movie made it to be with wings sawed in half from enemy bullets. I also couldn't buy one of the white POW's who escaped with one of the Tuskegee airman (Junior), showing up at Ramstein air base to give them back Junior's dog tags then later on, Junior appearing back at the base. They were also very heavy with the touchy feely music throughout the movie.
The history of the Tuskegee Airmen is a great story to tell but this movie did a disservice and all too predictable. It's just too bad that movies drawn from historic events cannot be portrayed that way and instead, have to be Hollywoodized! This must've been a major disappointment for Cuba Gooding Jr., who starred in The Tuskegee Airmen.

Barney Miller

Barney Miller is my favorite show of all times. It's too bad that this show is locked away in some studio vault rather than being shown as re-runs. Unlike M*A*S*H, which started to get dry past the 1976 season and focused less on comedy and more on leftist views, Barney Miller got better. Although it was completely unrealistic in the way detectives work, handling calls that patrol officers, not detectives handle, it was very realistic into the type of people that police officers deal with on a daily basis and the human emotions that go along with it. The show continued to stay solid, despite losing some excellent regular cast members like Gregory Sierra (reasons unk), Abe Vigoda(TV show Fish) and Jack Soo(passed away). My fault with the show is that they brought in so many new detectives that you came to like but were gone after a few episodes - Detectives Wilson, Licori, Wentworth, Battista and Dorsey, but it's still not enough to diminish my feelings about what a great show this was and I still enjoy watching it on DVD today, as I did on regular TV when it first aired.

I first saw this movie when it came out in the theaters and have the DVD, which I watch every December. I thought it was very well made but was very disappointed when I learned this movie is not factual but a work of fiction, based on the book by William Wharton who was 19 in 1944. The movie was unlike those phony John Wayne type war movies of the 50's and 60's. This movie showed the soldiers fears they had to deal with and the conditions for which they lived. Their brief stay in the Château must've been a life of luxury compared to living in a tent back at base or manning a foxhole on the front lines. Frank Whaley's dying scene seemed so real, unlike all those other phony Hollywood war movies from the years mentioned where the soldier clutches their wound, falls to the ground and gives a passion speech before peacefully dying.
The one posters comments from his father of "I was a political prisoner of Franklin Delano Roosevelt" is disturbing and he must not have made it to liberate the concentration camps to understand why we were there and fought the Germans. This review could very well be in German if not for FDR and the blunders made by the Japanese and Germans.

I'm glad a movie was made about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis but as usual, Hollywood has to screw it all up and use fictional characters, with the exception of Captain McVay, and fictional incidents. For instance, Richard Thomas's character was called Lieutenant Steven Scott but was based on Dr. Lewis Haynes. Why can't Hollywood just tell the story as it really happened and use real names like they did with Capt. McVay is beyond me.
I saw this movie first before reading the book "In Harms Way" which really gave you insight as to what happened and the negligence on the Navy's part. The Navy failed to give Cpt. McVay the intelligence it had that Japanese subs were in fact lurking along the Peddie route he was taking. A US destroyer had been sunk in the vicinity a week earlier. This is information Navy Commodore James Carter knew about but did not give Capt. McVay, even as the two met prior to the Indy setting sail.
Secondly, Capt. McVay had requested a destroyer escort for his route to Leyte since the Indy did not have any sonar gear and destroyers did, but he did not get one.
When the Indy was struck by 2 torpedoes, several messages of being struck by torpedoes and her sinking and coordinates were in fact picked up by 3 different radio stations on Leyte. Several tugs were dispatched but 7 hours into a 21 hour trip, the tugs were recalled when Commodore Gillette, acting commander of the Phillipine Sea Frontier, learned they had been dispatched without his permission. No explanation was ever given to his reasoning. It also appears that at the time. it was the Navy's protocol to dismiss any messages that couldn't be confirmed as pranks. Commodore never followed up to see if the Indy had arrived as scheduled.
The whole thing was a travesty and a pattern of a Navy that always wants to fix the blame on everyone but itself, just like they did with the USS Iowa explosion. Of all the ships the Navy lost, why was Cpt. McVay the only Captain who was court-martial ed? Of course, Admiral Nimitz and Admiral Spruance were against a court martial and suggested a letter of reprimand however Admiral King, Chief of Naval Operations wanted a court martial and pressed Naval Secretary James Forrestal for one and he agreed. How ironic that Admiral King was the man pressing for a court martial when it was Admiral Kings incompetence that cost the lives of many merchant seamen along the east coast of this country in 1942 by refusing to deal with the growing U-Boat menace and only did so when the shipping companies were going to refuse to sail unless they received Naval escorts.
But Adm. King got his wish and Cpt. McVay was court martial ed and convicted on a charge of failure to zig zag despite a U.S. sub captain and expert on submarine warfare testifying that zig zagging made no difference in his ability to sink a target. Even the Japanese commander of the sub which sank the Indy was brought into testify and also stated he still would've sunk the Indy whether it was zig zagging or not.
This was not the Navy's finest hour though had it not been for a stroke of luck by Lt. Chuck Gwinn, piloting a PV-1. The plane had a loran navigation system but the antenna had broken off. A crewman had tried to make repairs in flight and Lt. Gwinn had gone back to help him. As he was making his way back, he happened to look out the window at the right time and saw the men in the water below otherwise it's most likely that every man in the water would've perished to the elements. Of course this was downplayed in the movie which shows Gwinn's character slipping just kicking back and looking at the side window though it did show what in reality, was a very tricky and one way landing.

I have the first season on DVD and started watching it again last night. I thought this was a very good clean show that the family could watch instead of the garbage we see today. It wasn't dealing with the dysfunctional family like we saw on Roseanne, The Simpsons and Married with Children. It's just too bad the networks didn't give it a chance to build an audience and bring in the people needed to tweak it. But then again, these same networks got all panicky and wanted to can shows like All in the Family, M*A*S*H, and Seinfeld because they weren't doing so good in their first few seasons. Big mistake on the networks part and the reason you see so many people watching more shows on networks like The Discovery Channel than are watching the major networks.

"A stunning surprise" and a "Masterpeice"? More like "Mediocre"! It was slow paced but I give it credit that it wasn't your ordinary Hollywood movie that would've had the characters jumping into bed, or massive explosions to buildings and cars.
The ending was the worst. Having Michael Keaton's character just walk off into the sunset left too many questions unanswered, which I hate in a movie that takes the cheap way out. What happened with Kate? Did she and Detective Murcheson finally sit down for a complete dinner? Did Detective Murcheson gather enough evidence to have a warrant issued for Frank Logan? Guess I'm glad we only spend 99 cents on this, purchasing the movie from a Blockbuster going out of business sale.

For a made for TV movie, I thought it was very well done. The Navy's "inquiry" doesn't surprise me a bit. This branch of the Armed Forces seems to be famous for making scapegoats out of its personnel for "the good of the Navy".
Anyone who is familiar with how they treated Admiral Kimmel after the attack on Pearl Harbor or Captain Charles McVay after the USS Indianapolis was sunk knows how the Navy is great at blaming others to deflect criticism for their own incompetence.
The Navy couldn't just admit that old and improperly stored ammunition may have been the real cause. Or the experiments using supercharged powder bags that were too dangerous even when the ship wasn't 50 years old.

It's about time the other side got a taste of how foolish they look. While being a comedy, it did have a serious message. One that Hollywood and the left don't get. Showing what would've happened if Abraham Lincoln hadn't gone to war. Showing what appeasement, something Liberals are so great at, doesn't work as in the case of Neville Chamberlain.
This movie made Michael Malone and Rosie O'Connell (and we all know who they are) look like the fat stupid morons they really are. Facts and history mean nothing to people like them and this movie goes on to show that. Kelsey Grammar did a wonderful job as Gen. George S Patton. As did Jon Voight however his role was too short.
I'm sure this movie will greatly upset Hollywood. I even checked the two major local papers yesterday in their Weekend section but while running the advertisement, none of them reviewed the movie though they did review the Bill Maher's anti-religious film Religious. Isn't that typical?

I'm sure this movie will greatly upset Hollywood. I even checked the two major local papers yesterday in their Weekend section but while running the advertisement, none of them reviewed the movie though they did review the Bill Maher's anti-religious film Religious. Isn't that typical?

While there may have been some parts that were questionable, there was far more truths than the parts that were Hollywoodized. The disclaimer though was inserted due to the pressure being put on Disney by the Clintons who were getting a taste of their own medicine along with their cronies.
Funny how no pressure was put on Michael Moore's fictionalized pieces or how the viewers of this movie denounce it as right wing propaganda yet they embrace Fahrenheit 9/11 which was debunked in Fahrenhype 9/11 as being a bunch of left wing lies.
This movie needed to be made though I wish they would've stuck completely to the truth so there'd be no question as to what happened and how the incompetence of the Clinton administration led to the event of 9/11. Use the official accounts from the "bi-partisan" 9/11 Commission Report. I would like to see a movie made about it more on a factual basis like Tora, Tora, Tora was to Pearl Harbor unlike that piece of trash of a movie Pearl Harbor which was by far, the worst movie made.

This was a piece of crap for a movie. I expected a movie in which "There's been no more satisfying American comedy of this year" just as Newsweek said. It must've been a terrible year for comedies. Yea, Alan Arkins character not waking up had me in stitches. Not! Funny and Hilarious, this movie is not. Well, maybe for a 15 year old but not for adults or should I say grown up adults. I guess the crowd that loved this movie also loved O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Bean and Borat.
I expected far more from Toni Collette, Alan Arkin, Greg Kinnear and Steve Carell. They are very talented but what possessed them to sign on to this piece of garbage. What's worse was that the day I rented this movie, I had gone and seen Evan Almighty and thought Carell did a wonderful job with that role and laughed throughout the movie. I didn't laugh once for this one.
The grandfather dying and left in the vehicle was a reminder of the movie "Vacation" along with getting stopped by a motor cop who always seem to be portrayed as a bunch of dimwits even though in Vacation, the aunt was still alive. How that van must've smelled after having left the body in the van and in the heat for so long.
As for the beauty pageant, it must've been a pedophiles delight. They must love seeing all those young beauty queens dressed as Jon Benet Ramsey. And how about all the Patsy Ramsey's sitting in the audience, which Olive's mother was one of them. And just what talent did Olive have to get her in the beauty pageant in the first place? They also needed to cut out the Burger Kings for the kid. And I busted a gut laughing with this kid jumping around on the stage like she had ants in her pants. That was the most ridiculous scene of the movie.
Then you have the son who won't speak until he gets into the Air Force to fly jets then goes berserk when it's found he is color blind. What makes him think he'd even pass the psychological in the first place? I'm just glad I rented this movie instead of seeing it at the movies. I'm only out $3.69 for these piece of crap of a movie rather than 30 plus dollars (after paying for 2 tickets, 1 popcorn and 2 drinks).
My advice for you all is to rent. With more and more pieces of crap the movie industry is turning out, like this one, you'll save money rather than blowing it at the theaters.

I found this movie while flipping through the channels early one morning in December/2005. I had missed the first 10 minutes and just had to buy the DVD. Although it plays loosely with the facts, something the film industry has a hard time adhering to, it nevertheless is an wonderful movie made for TV for the Hallmark Channel.
It is based on the short story "Truce in the Forrest" and "The Night God Came for Dinner" by Fritz Vicken. Unlike the movie, communication was done between Fritz's mother Elisabeth, who spoke some French and one of the American soldiers who also spoke a little French. Only one of the Germans spoke some English.
Both the movie and real life incident showed that these people could put their differences aside and found they were much alike in many ways. Unlike the conflict between the Germans and Russians, there wasn't that level of hatred unless they were dealing with the SS. I've found many stories where soldiers put their differences aside to help each other out, from a German officer stopping an American jeep at a checkpoint that was carrying a wounded GI, then directing them to the American lines, to the pilot of an ME-109 who came upon a crippled B-17 and rather than shooting it out of the sky, escorted it to the English Channel and made sure it was going to make it safely back before peeling away. Ironically, the pilots of those 2 warplanes found each other in the later years and became close friends. That's what this movie does it to show the human side of our "enemy" and leaves you hoping they made it out of the war OK but it does leave you wondering what ever happened to them.
Fritz Vicken was able to locate Sgt. Ralph Blank in a Maryland nursing home after years of searching for the soldiers, thanks to "Unsolved Mysteries". Sadly, Fritz Vicken died the year this movie was released. What is ironic is that Fritz immigrated to this country after the war, like so many German soldiers and civilians. Our former enemies were now productive Americans. Fritz owned a bakery in Honolulu for many years.
I've added this movie to my Christmas holiday collection.

I remembered watching this movie when it first aired on TV in 1972 when I was all of 14 It's too bad that these, and many of the other TV movies from that time are hard to find, especially when you consider all the other crap you can find out on DVD in the bargain bin at WalMart. After all these years, I was finally able to obtain a copy of this movie on tape and enjoyed it all over again. While the plot may be simple, the characters and the background of the Mt. Shasta area make it a worthwhile movie to watch. I also enjoyed watching Joe Kapp who was my favorite quarterback several years earlier when he played for the Minnesota Vikings. Maybe that's why this is an all but forgotten classic. There's no sex or big explosions or any of the other unbelievable shots you see in today's movies. If you want a movie that you can sit down and enjoy that doesn't have all that ridiculous stuff you see in today's movies, this is one of them!

It's hard to believe this is a Disney movie. It's one of the rare movies that Disney makes that has a Mother and Father together in one movie. It's one that the whole family will enjoy, whether your a fan of baseball or not and an inspiration to never let go of your dreams.
The movie is based on the book by Jimmy Morris and Joel Engel "The Oldest Rookie: Big-League Dreams from a Small Town Guy". Although Dennis Quaid is older than the 35 year old Jimmy Morris he portrays, he does an excellent job of giving you the sense of emotions that Jim Morris has experienced over time. This movie also has a wonderful supporting cast of unknowns which makes the movie even more believable. It's too bad that Hollywood doesn't make more of these types of movies. Ones that have a believable story or plot without all the sexual affairs, car crashes and explosions.

This movie really shows his acting abilities. He so brilliantly captured another terrific actor and that's Bill Clinton himself. Funny how those on the left see this film produced by a right wing conspiracy. It's all the Republicans fault but they are taken in by such nonsense as they are taken in by the Clinton's. When has Hollywood ever embraced the Republicans? That's why Hollywood embraced that fiction piece of work called Fahrenheit 9/11. Watching this movie, I cannot understand how Americans were so conned in believing the rhetoric of Governor Stanton/Clinton. He acts more like a car salesman that a respectable statesman.

No wonder this was in the bargain bin at WalMart. Why didn't they just call the police when these problems first started? It would've shortened the movie for the better. There was no agreement, , no deposit, no keys given to Micahel Keaton's character, nor was there a lease therefor he is not a tenant. He is a trespasser and breaking the law. Even the judge goofed when the owners went to court for a hearing to evict him. I hope they didn't pay for that attorney because there was no lease. So why did the judge say there was and why didn't their lawyer point that out? For people who had money problems, they sure had enough to pay their lawyer, hire an exterminator, make repairs and take a trip to L.A.

I enjoyed the movie and found it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, considering it's a low budget film with, to me, all unknown actors. I was disappointed in the ending. They could've stopped the movie when they were in the car, driving home and reaching to hold each others hands but they had to stretch it another 10 minutes and ,make it worse.
