Gods and Generals (2003)
WOW
That's all I can say is - WOW! This movie was great, and for me, it wasn't long enough! It does have its flaws, but in my opinion, more than makes up for them. Having kept on eye on the critics of this film I wonder - did we see the same thing? Honestly, I know what the problem is - we have been brainwashed by mediocre textbooks and twisted facts about the Civil War and go in expecting one thing, while Maxwell decides to tell it in the most unbiased way. People can't stand anything that is not PC these days and I can't stand it! Oh well- while the masses may not understand thevalue of this movie - I sure do!( Oh and I am what is called a "transplanted Yankee" - I do beleive the rifts are still there, as many of the bad reviews come from my area of birth ) Anyways, as expected, Brian Mallons performance as Hancock was excellent, and Lang did better than I had thought he would. I am also enthralled as ever with Daniels as Chamberlain. People need to see this for themselves as it is a very personal movie, and everyone will like it of hate it for their own reasons. I hope very much that Last Full Measure is made so we can have Maxwells excellent view of the entire Civil War on film for generations.
Jenseits der Stille (1996)
Great Piece of Art
I think this is a GREAT film, and a wonderful piece of artwork. A very touching story between Lara and her parents. By the end I was weeping I was so touched ( and I don't cry easily at movies ). The Deaf culture is one very few of us take time to understand, but I think through films we can at least try. I HIGHLY recommend this film to anyone who is interested in Deaf culture, or just a great foreign film.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
A Christmas Classic
This movie is an absolute must see during the Holiday season.. no matter what religion. The humor in it is clean enough for family viewing ( how many movies tote that anymore? ) To me, Its a classic! I absolutely love Chevy Chase in these films, as Griswold reminds me so much of my own dad.
