[Rec] (2007)
Cold blood in my veins...
Just saw the movie here in Germany. First I have to say that the dubbing sucks galore, but the movie is a real shocker! It has something new, it's not just the digital camera work as a gimmick. The camera really SUPPORTS the action. Is a part of it. Quiet atmospheric. The story needs a while to get going, but after that: Take no prisoners! The last 15 minutes are the most terrifying I've seen since THE DESCENT! And I watched a lot (crappy) horror flicks. Talking 'bout crappy horror flicks, the leading lady (Scream Queen) in REC, is a sweet one! She reminded me of a young Alissa Milano. Nice! So, if you want to spend a few minutes on the edge of your seat: Go and see this one! It's worth the money!
later.
Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
Like a bad Bruckheimer Movie!
I just had the opportunity to watch DIE HARD with an old friend of mine. While he seemed to really like it, I was like: Oh my gosh, this is like watching a bad Bruckheimer movie! The myth is gone! I LOVED the first one, even liked the second and after ten years or so I finally appreciate the third - especially after watching this really bad effort. Don't misunderstand me, it's a quiet good nothing-better-to-do-on-a-Sunday-afternoon-action-film, but it's no longer DIE HARD. Like the others said: It's a comic! What happened to McLane? When I heard that Wiseman was about to direct the fourth DIE HARD, I expected the worded because the UNDERWORLD films sucked GALORE, but this is so... I don't know... cliché! Poor storytelling! Over the top action sequences! Not even a solid supporting cast (what saved the third one by the way)! Watch it! Check it out and cry into your pillow! So long dudes...
Rocky Balboa (2006)
ROCKY "hits" the theaters in Germany!
First: ROCKY is the greatest! And after all this years i was afraid to see a hero of my childhood in pieces. In his own blood so to say. But Stallone saved the myth and made a touching movie about growing old without fading away. ROCKY is almost 60 years old, but hey: It's still the Italien Stallion! The guy that beat Apollo, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago and you don't mess around with a legend. Is the first half (for a Rocky movie) a small and quiet film simply about loss and relationships, so is the second half pure ROCKY. I think if you don't like the character anyway you won't start to by watching this part of the series, but if you loved ROCKY all the years like i do you won't be disappointed. It's like in the old days, you will find yourself on the edge of your seat screaming: "ROCKY! ROCKY! ROCKY!", "Hit 'em!" and "Stand up!" All that kind of stuff. Well, at least inside yourself. So to speak with the fist in your pocket. So watch it! It's the last chance to see a ROCKY movie in a big theater! They never come back! I want to close with the already famous dialogue from the movie:
ROCKY: "To many people came to Las Vegas to loose. I'm not here to loose." DIXON: "You've already lost." ROCKY: "It ain't over till it's over." DIXON: "Where is that from? The 80s?" ROCKY: "Probably the 70s."
Goodbye Rocko. We had a great time...
The Cell (2000)
Awful!
Who needs this movie? Nobody! I think this is one of the worst movies I`ve seen in 2000. This film wants to BE more than it really is. It behaves as if it is the most intellectual, groundbreaking movie ever made. Pah! It`s the feature film debut of a former videoclip-director and you can see it in every sequence. Now a very small SPOILER! follows. For example: There is one sequence "in the head" of the "mean" serial killer that looks exactly like a Marilyn Manson videoclip. Nothing new! Hey Tarsem! We`ve seen this all before. The advertisement for the movie here in Germany went like "a mixture of Silence Of The Lambs and Matrix". *LOL* Not-in-100-years! I mean, even Matrix wasn`t that good! But enough for the "talent" of Tarsem. Let`s go over to the credibility of Jennifer Lopez as a social worker... oh yeah! What else should I say? I guess I witnessed label at one of her awesome suits with the words "talent free" on it. And Vince Vaughn, well, I think he is a quite good actor but when Psycho was unnecessary, The Cell was a total mess.
High Fidelity (2000)
Got a new one on my Top 5...
Yupp, I finally got a new entry on my Top 5 list of movies-about-the-relationships-between-men-and-women...HIGH FIDELITY is absolutely fantastic, because it tells his story from the male point of view. The film says that women are a great but sometimes weird species and that it takes a lot of time and heart to get along with them. OK! Maybe this is nothing new. We`ve seen stories like this before. But in this movie we got real people! People we can meet on the street tomorrow, this is not this all beautiful, all happy Hollywood crap. The only cliche is, that it always rains at the right time. But it`s funny, some kind of running-gag! I think you should check that movie out. Because it makes you feel good when you leave the theater. All the characters are so different, odd but also so lovely and brilliantly played by the whole cast. And John Cusack is the PERFECT cast for the record store owner. You better not miss this! This movie touched me. I can see myself in Rob (Cusack) and this is definitely on my Top 5 list...
Fight Club (1999)
Maybe the most important movie of the 90`s!
Wow! This is what I call an incredible, fantastic, awesome HIT IN YOUR FACE!! This is maybe one of the most important movies made in the 90`s. Everbody of our generation should have seen this film! You can find yourself in the figures of Pitt and Norton, in the way they act, talk and think. We ARE a lost generation and we have to change something. Not in the way Tyler does, but in our heads. Check this movie out, that`s a good start!
