Melinda and Melinda (2004)
Ambivalence
I am ambivalent about this movie. Have you ever watched a movie that was so well done, yet it just seemed to be off somehow? That's how I felt about his movie. It just seemed the dialog at times was just TOO DAMN PERFECT! In life, there are situations where afterward you think, "I WISH I had said this!" Well, this movie seemed to contain all the perfect dialog, a little too perfect. People just don't speak the way this movie portrays them.
Plus, the humorous part of this movie wasn't that funny. I was confused as to whether I was watching the dramatic version, or the humorous one. The telltale sign was seeing Will Ferrall - I knew he'd be in the humorous version.
Keeping the Faith (2000)
Extremely enjoyable film
I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie. About 3/4 through this movie I remembered this was directed by Edward Norton, and was impressed even more. This movie is well written, well acted, well directed, very well photographed, amusing and touching.
What may have been most impressive was Edward Norton NOT using this as an homage to Edward Norton. Matter of fact, a case could be made that he is really a supporting actor in this film.
This is more than just a great date movie. It is just a very enjoyable movie for adults.
