Another Life: Guilt Trip (2019)
Really, a dream episode this early in the show
This episode was a complete waste. It seems like a weak attempt at back story. I wish this show was just a dream and I hadn't wasted 5 hours of my life so far.
Crashing: The Viewing Party (2019)
When did this turn into a drama?
This was the episode I gave up on Crashing. After 3 episodes that seemed less funny and more painful.
Electric Dreams: Safe and Sound (2018)
Super predictable
I mean what more can I say. 20 minutes in you'll know how this one ends.
Lost in Space (2018)
Not the worst, but surely not the best.
With great special effects and beautifully shot, just about any trailer you saw for Lost In Space made it look like something worth watching, and it is, if you have exhausted your Netflix queue.
The biggest issue with Lost In Space is every episode is a combination of the worst things that can go wrong, all going wrong at the same time and the Robinson family finding themselves facing death & peril once again, only to have everything work out just in time. Literally if this was a cop drama someone would be cutting a wire on a ticking bomb with just 1 second left to end every episode. The villains, no matter how inept, seem to have everything work out for them time after time to increase their chances of making it to the next episode.
The reboot included a nice touch of rearranging the lead character's roles and even breaking up the family dynamic. So you get a mom that's the family lead, a dad who's kind of along for the ride and a robot who is there, but isn't really part of the crew. And then there is Dr. Smith, inept yes, but truly evil this time around.
If you are looking for the next series to binge, this isn't it. I found myself needing a break after each episode as opposed to waiting to watch the next episode. As a matter of fact 6 episodes in I'm only going to finish watching them because I've invested this much time in them, and ironically I came down with the flu so I have some time to kill on the couch.
Duck Soup (1933)
Brutal
This could be the worst movie in the IMDb top 250. Unless you are a real Marx fan stay away. I don't even know where to start to tell someone how bad this movie was. This one hour and eight minute movie, felt more like it was written for stand-up or radio. With the exceptions of a few sight gags, I didn't laugh more than twice in this entire film. Some films hold up well over time, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, "M" and other films. If you want funny go watch the best of the Three Stooges. The worst part is I can't even post this comment without typing 10 lines as dictated by the guidelines of IMDb.com, so I have to keep writing and wasting even more of my time on this horribly not funny movie than the hour I spent watching it. Oh god please is there no end to the madness.
Team America: World Police (2004)
The gag is up.
I loved the political humor. The slap on actors & politicans as well as a nice smack for people who blindly stand behind the American flag. But halfway through the movie I wasn't laughing at the silly fight scenes & other puppet mischief. I get it. They're puppets! It was funny for about a half hour. I love Matt & Trey's work, even "Baseketballs", but this should have been a two part series of South Park & not an hour & a half long movie. At least Cartman could have made a cameo somewhere in the movie to spice up the slow parts. This movie is really just for puppet fans & those hwo like the work of Matt Stone & Trey Parker. I don't care how cutting edge the humor was in this film. The star rating is for entertainment. If I want cutting edge political humor I'll watch John Stewart. Oh, but just like the South Park movie, great original songs.
Shi mian mai fu (2004)
Beautiful movie, horrible ending
Such a gorgeous movie that really just fell off at the end.
I'm not a real kung foo movie type of person, but I like good movies. This one had all the makings of a good movie until the drawn out ending that was so ridiculous that it made "Batman; Forever" seem like a good movie.
Seriously, there's nothing worse than people kissing like they don't know what the hell their doing or characters coming back to life after they've been dead for a what seem like a season (Fall-Winter).
Kung Fu movies have their own believability factor, just like super hero movies, but seeing Super Man fly around with a krypto-nyte necklace couldn't have been more ridiculous.
Alexander (2004)
Epic movie or discovery channel special?
Oliver Stone has a strange way of making movies sometimes. Natural Born Killers & U Turn started out using some funking film styles then changed soon into the movie.
Stone goes at it again in Alexander, but with the plot this time. In what felt like an eternity. Alexander starts off feeling like a Discovery Channel special & then flips over to a soap opera.
The implied bisexuality of Alexander & the Macedonian men is hinted at through out the movie, yet never shown. Hints at men sleeping together & even what looks to be a anal rape seen are all very ambiguous and never are shown.
Stone needed to either make it a documentary or a soap opera & either show the bisexual nature of Alexander or not.
Ontop of all that the battle scenes are horrible. Think the football scenes in Any Given Sunday & you've got the look of the only 2 battle scenes in the movie.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Atheist Reviews
As a born & raised Catholic, who denounced his belief in god at a religious retreat in high school. I was moved by this movie about the man that was known as Jesus. While, I'm still a non-believer, I will say that the cast & crew did an in creditable job, in what I believe may be the greatest movie ever made. This was an emotional roller coaster that was done in a non-contrived way. It's also the first subtitled movie I ever watched where I felt just as much emotion from the text as I did the actors. A well thought out & executed production by Me Gibson. Oscar doesn't have an award that could do this film justice.
Watch It (1993)
Great Chicago Film
A must see Chicago filmed movie. Perfect for 20 something adult males. A "romantic comedy for men" as I like to call it. Very funny, may give roommates a few ideas. I know it did for me.
Worth viewing just for the scene between John C. McGinley & Peter Gallager, where McGinley explains what type of woman Gallager should be dating. A.K.A. the Rick Miller theory of dating.
