Tamanna (1998)
A 'hijra' can be a normal person too....
A "Hijra" or a transvestite chances upon an abandoned baby in a dustbin. Unable to trace the parents, he adopts the baby. The truth is kept hidden from her that he is not a normal person, until when she finally learns about his true identity she says 'that he cared for me like a father and I don't consider him to be not normal'. The film portrays the biased society that we live in and how we stereotype people for their reputation.
Butterfly Island (1985)
Adventure, Drama, Excitement and Fun!
An Asian Prince is washed up on Butterfly Island in the Great Berrier Reef. He was in his ship when a mutiny occured to overthrow him and hold him for ransom. However he escapes and gets washed ashore on Butterfly Island. Here he meets three kids and their dad who help him. He does their homework and they give him food. The story goes on about how he escapes being detected and how he finally returns. The footage includes stunning tropical beaches and islands.
The other two mini-series (three total) feature Butterfly Island as a tropical résorte and its daily happenings.
Overall a great movie for kids and also spectacular scenery with a good story line.
Dr. Fad (1990)
A series that made me think.
Dr. Fad was a unique TV series. It was all about science, invention and technology. It was actually a competition between 3 young inventors. One part was that you have to feature an invention that you have thought about and produced, and the audience (kids) voted on the usefulness of it. Another part featured the ability of the contestants to use their minds in solving a puzzle. There was a guest star and there was an invention featured in each episode. Although I watched it when I was only 9 yrs, it made me think. It was a wonderful showcase on science and technology, and because of that Science is my favourite subject, and I love to invent things.
Its a show that I would recommend to all young viewers, to learn that no matter how small YOU can invent something. All it needs is an idea or an improvisation.
Thank You Dr. Fad for the lovely series showcased on Inventions by kids.
By Way of the Stars (1992)
A Journey with umpteen twists in the story...
Nice story. The story has many twists and turns. Set in the mid 19th century it gives an insight to 19th century Prussia. Watch Zachary & Gema travel across continents. The movie features Prussian - European 19th century living, Post American Civil War, wild Canadian prairies, American Indians, and so much more. It has great background scenes.
A movie perfect for a summer afternoon.
Bodyline (1984)
A unique and scandalous plot to dismiss Don Bradman.
A movie not only on Cricket, but also on values, ego, pride, human achievement. The movie takes place during the Bodyline Series, Between the England-Australia 'Ashes' Test Matches. A movie depicting the world's best ever cricketer - Don Bradman and one of the worlds fastest and most accurate bowlers of that time - Harold Larwood, it was a struggle to dismiss the Aussie Don Bradman.
Douglas Jardine's most outrageous plot, the tense cricket stadium atmosphere, the desire to win make this movie a must see.
Fraggle Rock (1983)
A magical world of the Fraggles captivates many
I watched Fraggle Rock when I was a kid, I thought it to be a magical world and actually believed in a place called Fraggle Rock when I was 4. Recently when it was aired it brought back old memories. The fraggles with their all play and no work was something that I enjoyed as a kid. However I didn't like the Gorgs and I also hoped that humans would one day interact with Fraggles. There are four different creatures: Man- Doc and his dog Sprocket, Fraggles, Douzers and Gorgs. Doc does not know the existence of the Fraggles, Gorgs want to capture the Fraggles and Douzers are the uncomplaining, untiring workers. The Fraggles are mainly Gobo the hero, Wembley, Mookey, Red & Boober.
Great for young kids.
