Natural Born Killers (1994)
my favorite movie of all time
there isn't much to say that hasn't already been said. the movie isn't' built around gore or trying to scare the #$@$@$ out of you, however, its an amazing movie that has a strong message that many people may not catch. if you ever did drugs (shrooms) as a kid, you will be able to relate to this movie a lot more than others. as i sit here trying to type how to explain the movie, i really can't. its just a movie you must watch for yourself.
there are many scenes played out through the eyes of Micky and Mallory while they are 'shrooming'. if the jail escape scene with rage against the machine playing in the background doesn't get you on the edge of the seat you need to check your pulse.
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
Overrated and boring
I love horror movies and back when this was released it was sick and twisted, but times have changed and now its nothing more than an 80s horror flick with fake blood and cheesy murder scenes. The remake of The Hills Have Eyes was much scarier than this.
If you are a fan of cult horror films this is a must for your collection, but don't expect to be rattled by the movie as others have said.
If you want a movie that really gets into the head of a serial killer and is actually entertaining see Natural Born Killers. After all, "it's just murder, man".
The Break-Up (2006)
i enjoyed it..
it was typical vince vaughn and john favreau. it almost could have been a swingers III, the older years, or something similar. the way they communicated reminded me a bit so much of 'swingers' it was great. if you enjoy that style of comedy, you will enjoy this movie.
there isn't anything new here. its a typical romantic comedy w/ vince vaughn at his finest.
as usual, vince vaughn is so quick with his comebacks he leaves jennifer anniston tongue twisted. this is a great movie if you just want a good laugh.
i found myself laughing out loud at least 5-6 times.
other than the ending i was very pleased, as was my girlfriend, with this movie.
United 93 (2006)
surreal
i normally don't write reviews on movies here, but i felt compelled to write about this one. i was living in Boston when 9/11 went down so all of this was a horrific reminder of those days.
i hate to call this a movie because it didn't put me in the movie mood of drinking coke and eating popcorn. i actually felt nauseous after it was over.
i felt like i was in the plane and in the command centers with all of those people. as the end was happening, people all around me were crying. personally, i had water in my eyes and could only think what all of those people must have been going through. i can recall at least 5 times when i got the chills and felt the hair stand up on the back of a neck.
it was quite an emotional experience for me and the friend i was with.
Fever Pitch (2005)
great movie even for the non-sports fan as well.
i recently moved from baton rouge, la. from Bostons. i have been a huge red sox fan for years. while this movie was being made there were mixed emotions from the fans about this movie. some people thought it was exploiting "our" team and others thought it was harmless fun. at first, i didn't want to see the movie be made, because its "my" team and i didn't want a bunch of kids from Kansas jumping on the red sox bandwagon. they haven't suffered the pain we have and don't deserve to be red sox fans.
anyways, i thought the movie was well done. i wish they would have done 15 more minutes or so on the the sox coming back against the Yankees and also into the WS. i understand the ending had to be changed so they probably ran out of time, but that comeback against the yanks and then winning the world series was the best thing i've ever experienced and the film just mentioned it in passing.
there are a lot of jokes that people who aren't from Bostons (new england) won't get. i would suggest renting "the curse of the great bambino" or whatever it was called before watching this movie. it was a documentary on HBO and now is on DVD. it will give you a better understanding of the history of the red sox and how hardcore red sox fans really are. by watching that, you'll better understand the passion of a red sox fan. there was a reason this movie was based on a red sox fan and not a royal or Indian fan. red sox fans have a passion for their team like no other fans anywhere.
my favorite part is when Fallon is talking to the kid about the sox at baseball practice and says "what are ya, docta' phil? get outta' here". that is just the tone and attitude Bostonians have.
8/10
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Best movie ive seen in a while..
Unreal fighting scenes... Great dialouge, etc.. My only complaint if I had one is the last 30 minutes or so could have been shrunk to maybe 10 minutes. Other than that you don't feel like you are in a movie for 3 1/2 hours..
Now I need to watch the first 2 again.. :)
9.5 of 10 stars..
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)
snoozefest
The only people who will enjoy this are:
1) people who easily understand British spoken English. 2) fans of 1800s naval battle
I couldnt even follow the movie half of the time because I didn't know what they were saying, and I have a handful of Brittish freinds..
boring
3/10
Memento (2000)
Wow.. What a thinker
This was a great movie.. But its not a movie for everyone. You will spend most of the time trying to figure out what the hell is going on and wondering if you are the only one not putting the puzzle together. However, on the way home, me and 4 of my freinds were talking and debating as to what we think actually happened. This is a great movie for those people who like movies that make you think.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Wow.. Intense.. Jaw Dropper
I went and saw this just last night. There were about 40 people in the theater.. Most of them were younger and were high. Before the movie started everyone was laughing and giggling, however, when the movie ended, it was a completely different scene. Those same people who were in festive moods were staring at the screen with their jaws dropped.. others were sitting with their face in the hands in disbelief. What a movie.. the last 30 minutes are about as intense as you can find in a movie. You will either love this movie or not. Only certain types of people will get it. If you have experience with drug use in your past you will really understand and comprehend this movie. wow.. 9 out of 10 stars for me.. my only complaint is the start was a little slow, and I wish it was more intense throughought the whole movie, but I can't complain. What a flick! Go see it on the big screen if possible!
Whiteboyz (1999)
Movie was good.. Nothing great, but not a bore
I think the movie portrays what is wrong w/ youth these days. Its funny, because im in my mid 20s now and could relate to Flips feelings. Basically, the movie is about an Iowa white kid who thinks he's a gang banger. He goes to Chicago and finds out that things are different. I wish more of the movie would have been based in Chicago rather than in Iowa. It would have been a little better. Overall, I think its a interesting movie. Nothing too special, but I didnt fall asleep. In conclusion, If Piper Perabo reads this, please email me! :)
