Century City (2004)
A lawyer show that made you think? Had to fail!
6 April 2004
Okay...so it is gone, and it doesn't sound as if it will be mourned very heavily. Well, it should be. I know they started out with some pretty High-tech cases...i.e. cloning, cyber-rape... but they almost had to if they wanted to get their point across that this was a show about a few years in the future when things are different. If they were to be anything at all in the ballpark of the time-period that has shows like the Practice, Law & Order (ad infinitum) and so on..it would just be another show like the rest with maybe some different clothes and some newer or geekier cars. Sort of the "dam**d if you do, dam*d if you don't" syndrome. Off-hand, I rather liked the show. One heckuva lot better than "the Guardian". But, unfortunately...once something is deemed sci-fi it is doomed from many people's viewing. Too bad. Don't know what they are missing. And, unfortunately...I DO know what I will be missing!!

Enough (I) (2002)
Extremely Enjoyable!!
27 May 2002
First off...why does the fact that this movie deals with spousal abuse and a woman smart enough to run and hide automatically make it a ripoff of "Sleeping with the Enemy"? Because "The Count of Monte Cristo" has swordplay, does that make it a ripoff of all of the Zorro movies, or the Robin Hood movies? Does the fact that Spiderman is a Marvel Superhero make it a ripoff of "The X-Men"? Of course not. And only the very basic storylines make "Enough" and "Sleeping..." similar at all. Let me illustrate...

In "Sleeping with the Enemy", Julia Roberts plays a weak willed woman who stays with her mentally abusive husband until she finally has enough and leaves when she gets the chance to fake her death. Julia never changes...always the weak willed, scared out of her gourd hiding wife.

In "Enough", Jennifer Lopez plays a strong minded woman who decides to leave her abusive husband as soon as she finds out what he is really like. Jennifer never changes either...but in this case she maintains her strength, and although scared out of her gourd also, she sets out to confront him in a physical battle...his forte usually.

This movie was great entertainment. Anyone who says they felt this was a total yawner, with no tension at all is too critical. This is what entertainment is about. This was a great way to spend 2 hours as far as I am concerned.

Ms Lopez is becoming a better actress with each film. But, as far as the female actresses go in this flick...the little girl who portrayed Jennifer's daughter out-acted everyone else...male or female. Two thumbs UP for this little lady!!

Dragonfly (2002)
Better than I expected
7 May 2002
I have to say that after reading comments by other viewers, critics and so on, I had very low expectations on seeing this movie. Since it was on at the Drive-in as the second feature following Scorpion King, I decided to watch it...and am glad I did.

The gentleman who equated the movie with being another Sixth Sense ripoff is wrong. The only similarities are that dead people are communicating with live people but here it is when they are considered dead...heart stopped, in the tunnel with the light at the end or when they are in a coma.

This movie grabbed me early and held on. It is about a man who lost his wife but since her body was never recovered, he couldn't be sure she was dead. So, when he seems to be getting messages delivered by kids with near death experiences he sort of believes them.

I think this movie was made well and cast even better. Go see it...with an open mind...and you will be pleasantly pleased!!

Sequel anyone?
3 September 2001
I heard someone comment that this is the first horror flick in a long time that does it right...and in that, they are right. Suspense, macabre happenings, and more. Did I like it? More yes than no.

I was glued to my seat for the duration of the movie, although it was more suspenseful before the identity of the "person" was revealed.

The characters of Trish and 'Darry' were well cast and I thought the customers of the restaurant were a hoot. If you have ever stopped in a diner on a long road, seemingly misplaced in the middle of nowhere, those ARE the people you will see there. As for the ending, definitely a unique way to do it. Made me think that since Freddie Krueger is so well known now that even your grandmother would know him in a crowded room, and Michael is probably moved to get away from his sister, maybe the producers thought that maybe we needed a new sicko to spin a few dozen sequels about. Seeing this movie is NOT a waste of money, but it could be better spent with all of the great movies released this summer.

Good entertainment
11 May 2001
After reading some of the other reviews, I must state that I am almost 50 years old, have gone to movies since I was 4 and go to the movies a minimum of at least once per week...and even more now that the drive-in season is on again.

Yep! Everyone is right when they say that this movie is totally whacked! It is!!! But not in a bad way. For those of you who like to clamp down on movies as not being as good as this other movie, or the characters were not real, all I got to say is you are missing out on a lot of good fun.

From the opening scene, shoot...even before that in the credits, you know that this movie is NOT going to follow the norm. Music has been used to ADD to movies for years and not all of it has initially been met with praise.

Ladyhawke, a love story about medieval lovers cursed with him being a wolf during the night and her being a hawk during the night...a wildly strange movie. The soundtrack was written and conducted by Andrew Powell but the production by Alan Parsons (The Alan Parson's Project) was a decidedly determining factor...it was a rock and roll soundtrack, ladies and Gents!! And it was, is and will always be a wonderfully wonderful movie. Streets of fire...another weird, strange and oddly addictive movie, was run through with some avant-garde music tracks and a sutle, hole laden plot and storyline but it is still one of the top cult hits out there for all to see.

Now...here comes A Knight's Tale...and the music is from the 20th and 21st centuries, the movie takes an irreverent look at...well...everything and, to tell you the truth, it is done in a fun way. If you plan to see it, take off your thinking caps and put on your party hats. Put a smile in your heart...and your mind...and just sit back and enjoy this rowsing tale of love, humor, action and fun that will join the ranks of such movies as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Animal House, Bachelor Party, Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai, Iron Eagle, and many more movies that cannot even get in the backdoor at the academy awards, but will always be on the rental charts cause they are just darn good entertainment!!! Nuff Said!!

A movie to see if you are a fan...
4 September 2000
For Highlander fans...whether you be a movie or a TV Highlander fan, this is one that must be seen. I guarantee that no movie or TV show called Highlander will ever be the same again. This time, the people you have known so long, Connor and Duncan, will surprise you with the differences in their personality and beliefs. If the idea of this movie was to make it possible for Duncan (Adrian Paul) to carry on the movies after Connor (ala Star Trek et al), then they have done it up perfectly. There are parts of the movie that are questionable. Parts that could have been done in a better way. But overall, this is a movie that Highlander fans should NOT miss!

If only the Superbowl could be this good...and this funny!
13 August 2000
Slightly similar to "Unnecessary Roughness" with Scott Bakula, this movie is even better. Just one of those feelgood movies that will have your funnybone acting up on overtime! I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard at a movie...any movie in a long time. This one is for the whole family...everyone will enjoy it!!!

X-Men (2000)
No disappointment here!!
15 July 2000
I was a fan of the X-Men back in the early sixties when they first appeared on the comicbook scene. Then, the members were Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Angel, Beast and Iceman. The group has evolved over the years...and out of my life many moons ago. The only contact I have with them now, is thru my 12 year old nephew who is as excited about them now as I was back then. I went to the movies Friday to the very first showing of X-Men the movie. From the first second the screen came alive to the final credit, I was glued. All of the main characters were explained perfectly so that even an oldie like me could understand who and why they were who they are. The storyline was great. The actors portraying anybody and everybody were right on the mark. I want to thank and congratulate all of the people behind this movie, from Marvel itself, thru to Stan Lee, to the director, the producers, and even the guys driving the roach coach. Excellent job! I rate this movie as the best movie of the summer. Even if it dies at the boxoffice (which it won't) it is a Marvel of wonder in the history of film!!

Long Live Prof. Charles Xavier and his school for gifted children!!!
