Just not good enough
12 September 2012
What a waste of money this probably is. The movie looks expensive to be made, but the result is not good at all. The pictures of the landscapes are beautiful, the costumes look good, but the fighting and killing is so far over the top and just stupid and brutal. And the story is the worst part: very very very thin. It looks like there was no attempt made to wright a good story. It's just about shooting as many action scenes as possible, with as much (bloody) violence as possible. Just like movies as '300' you get a bit of a feeling that you are watching fascist-like violence tributes. Some scenes are so cliché and so stupid, you can't believe it was really meant that way. It's a pity, because it could have worked with a better story and a less over the top fighting. I love historic movies, especially about ancient Greece or Rome, but this was a big disappointment.

Troy (2004)

very poor story
20 September 2005
Some of the reactions here are overreacted, but it is not a very good movie. That the Troian Horse is not in the "Ilias" from "Homeros" (stupid English Homer)is not a problem at all. The movie is a story about Troy, it is not a movie version of the Ilias.

The Ilias is just one of the many stories about Troy and the Greek and Trojan heroes. There is also the Odysse, but still many, many more. Stories of the stealing of the Paladium by Odysseus and Diomedes, the story of Palamedes (who was responsible for getting Odysseus into war, and was there for hated by Odysseus. Odysseus tricked him and he was accused of treason and then murdered. His father than set up many of the wives of the Greek heroes against their husbands, and also caused some returning ships to shipwreck), etcetera, etcetera.

And what a nonsense that Achilles was not gay in the movie. He is neither in the stories! There are aspects that can support the suggestion that he is gay, but it could just as easily have not been. That is even more likely. So not taking that view on Achilles was certainly not wrong. The same counts for the part of the gods. Why should they be in the picture? They could, but it is not a necessity. The heroes have most likely really existed, the gods of course not. So why us them in the movie? Only because they play a role in the story "Ilias". And if it was to be a filming of the Ilias, there should also be an important part for Diomedes. In the Ilias he is, together with Achilles, Hector, Agamemnon, Paris and Odysseus, one of the most important characters. He plays a far bigger role than Priamos, Menelaos, Patroklos, Nestor, Aeneas and Ajax, for example. But in this movie he plays, like in most Troy-movies/series, no part at all. However, this movie is not the "Ilias", but a (bad) story about Troy and some of the heroes.

But what is bad in the story is that too much is altered. - Menelaos is killed?? In fact, he goes home with his wife Helena after the war and is king of Sparta for a long time afterwards. Menelaos is not the biggest hero of the Greeks, but in this movie he is a monster!! What a big brute. The casting does not look good at all. In my opinion Brad Pitt is a good Achilles and Orlando Bloom a good Paris. But Menelaos is not at all as you picture him from the stories. - Helen flees with Paris?? Paris is killed bij Filoktetes and Helena goes home with Menelaos. - Agamemnon is killed by Paris?? In fact, he is killed bij his own wife Klytemnaestra after the war, when he just got home. Achilles was in the Troian horse?? He was already dead before Troy was conquered. - Paris does not know Aeneas, who in real was married to his sister and a son-in-law of Priamos. - Ajax is not killed by Hector. He goes mad and kills himself after he lost the armour of Achilles to Odysseus (Ullyses) after Achilles is killed. Too many important parts are wrongfully altered in my opinion. I think the aspect that the war lasted 10 years (and the warriors all knew each other) is important in the stories. Most of them are sick of the war. They want to go home. In the movie the war seems to last only two weeks????

So afterall, not very good at all ...

The Simpsons (1989– )

There is nothing like it
28 January 2002
The Simpsons is an excellent comedy. There are a lot of different characters that are all very unique in there way. There just can't be a bigger idiot than Homer Simpson. He does everything on impulse and really is a bid kid. He is not fit to have any responsibility what so ever, but instead he is in charge of safety at a nuclear plant!!

Homer's boss Montgomery Burns, who always forgets the name of his most disastrous employee "Who's that, Smithers?" "That's Homer Simpson, sir. He works in sector 7G" . Waylon Smithers, Burns' assistant and secretly in love with his boss, the very stupid head of police; chief Wiggum, Apu, Grampa, Groundskeeper Willie, the corrupt major Quimby, the Bouvier sisters, Moe, Barney, etc. They're all brilliant!!!

Good entertainment
18 September 2001
Quite an entertaining movie. Housewife Jamie accidently kills her boyfriend and together with her friend Laura she tries to get rid of the body. Al, Jamie's former boyfriend, was a big jerk and both Laura and Jamie believe she's better off without him. Arlene, a friend of Jamie and Laura, has trouble with her sexist boss (well played by Neal McDonough, who also played an excellent part in "Ravenous" as private Reich) and Laura thinks it would be better for Arlene if he was murdered...

that sucks

Just hate it. Terrible movie. Boooooooooooooooring. There is really nothing in it. It looks like they wanted to make a very intense movie, but the result is terrible. Too boring to watch. One of the worst movies in the last few years and it was nominated for the Oscars. Unbelievable.

Disgusting and horrible bad and boring movie!
20 March 2001
This movie really sucks. One of the most boring movies ever. It is a war-movie without any action. The idea was probably to make a very weird movie that has no real beginning or end or plot so that critics would like it. It looks like it should have been an intellectuel non-comercial movie. But it is just terrible! And people who compare it with Saving Private Ryan are crazy. They both are about World War II and released in 1998 but that's it. Saving Private Ryan has some great action and is excellent to watch. Maybe the plot about the Ryan-brothers is a bit thin, but so what. The opening scene is briliant and so is the final fight. Do not watch The Thin Red Line, it's just horrible.

The Transformers (1984–1987)
Starscream rules!
24 February 2001
Real youth sentiment. Extremely cool series. Too bad there are too much follow-up series without the real cool characters from the beginning. Optmius Prime, Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Megatron, Grimlock, Ironhide, Rachet, Soundwave and most of all Starscream were really cool!
