The Sum of All Fears (2002)
Gee, I'm just glad I'm working!
Why do I get the feeling this movie was made only for money. The subject is outdated (was it 10 years ago the Soviet Union collapsed, has it been that long?)
Also, the actors all seem to be happy they're working and not laid off like a lot of people.
Total BS
The Sixth Sense (1999)
OK, why do I get it confused with Ghost?
Good psychological movie. Has some Ghostly qualities. Bruce Willis, as usually is very good. The boy, almost beyond his years, and as a result almost unbelievable. I think it takes two viewings to see all the subtleties. Good movie, at least 3/4's up the scale.
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
Exceptional
The story, the music, all contribute to this movie's greatness. Alec Guiness so surprises his Japanese captors with his 'if you're going to do anything, do it right' attitude, that they eventually come to respect him. Such a 'different' war movie.
I Never Sang for My Father (1970)
Interesting story. Great seeing California in the old days.
Perhaps that takes a bit of explaining, but seeing people get in cars without putting on seat belts was kind of a shock. I guess I'm just too used to today.
the movie wasn't bad but kind of a hackneyed story. Mom is great, but dies; Dad is hard hearted but tries to pass it off as 'taking care of the family.' A bit hokey when the old man cries (I actually think it was intended to look phony), as he is really a hard guy. No one could 'love' that SOB.
Shack Out on 101 (1955)
BIG Sleeper; great Movie.
Terry Moore for all her potential in that movie never achieved the critical acclaim in later life that Lee Marvin did. I loved the movie, but don't believe I've ever seen it on TV. Only saw it once in 1955 and it was second bill of a two movie program. I don't even know what the first movie was. In those days it was normal to have two movies (and a cartoon, MovieTone News and a few trailers of movies to come).
Frank Lovejoy was great as the commie spy, but I think Slob (Marvin) stole it. Terry Moore as the 'babe' was ok, but Slob was fantastic.
Tim (1979)
My first view of Mel Gibson
Rather hokey story, fit probably more for soap operas, but really Mel Gibson gives life to it. He plays the 'slow witted' so well, I'd have thought he was that way in real life. Piper Laurie plays the woman, and I really enjoyed her part too. She and Gibson made a great pair. Probably Gibson's first and and Laurie's last movie.
