Renegade Force (1998)
Finally real tactics and not a bunch of fake YAHOOS
Ok this movie doesn't have a 100 million dollar budget, so what. At least the S.W.A.T teams are finally using REAL S.W.A.T tactics, equipment, weapons, training etc. and are not just a bunch of gung ho yahoos in blue jump suites with baseball caps on pretending to be an elite force like I have seen in most low budget films and even high budget films of the same nature. The Renegade Force looks like the real deal . Patrick and Rooker look like cops and act like... well cops. Yeah, the movie does suffer from a few plot holes but it makes more sense then some of these so call effects driven no story line and don't even ask about good acting multi-jillion dollar Hollywood block busters. If anybody is interested in a good authentic police action flick check this movie out. If you want unrealistic, lots of explosion really bad acting action, then rent Speed or any Dan "The Dragon" Wilson flick.
Laws of Gravity (1992)
Almost a documentary
The first time I saw this movie was about six years ago on either Showtime or Cinemax can't remember which. I was blown away I missed the first few minutes and thought at first that I was watching a documentary. The hyper camera work, the dialog, the more than real life acting, and very believable situations. No Hollywood style glizt and glamour here. No big name actors, no multi-Jillion dollar budgets. Just basic film making in it's rarest form; raw, unrefined in other words REAL. Real characters, no complicated plots no surprise endings no Hollywood endings no explosions no car chases and crashes. This film is a real character study and you know how it's going to end, the only way it can. (Hey Independent Film Channel why haven't you put this one air yet)?
Unbreakable (2000)
Unbearable
Saw this movie last night wished I saw the movie in the next theater (The Sixth Day) instead. I didn't see anything that was thought provoking or introspective or deep thought or anything but one of the most boring movies ever. The entire movie was slow, dark and gloomy and made me want to fall asleep but I didn't. I wanted to leave the theater within the first half hour to sneek over to see Arnolds film but my girlfriend wouldn't let me leave. A lack luster effort and a waste of great talent and money. Samuel Jacksons worst film since Sphere (another big name bomb) don't get me wrong Sam I love your work you are one of the best actors of our time but the next time someone presents a movie like this one to you please just say "NO". As far as the viewing audience rent Superman instead. Just because the director hit it big with the Sixth Sense (an excellent movie) does not mean that he can do no wrong. I sorry but this one was just wrong all the way around. I can't even point out one or two specific things that made it bad but rather it was "the whole thing". **BOMB**
Delta of Venus (1995)
Can you say Parfume'?
It looks like a 90 minute perfume ad. Since I produce commercials for a living I know one when I see one. Stylish if not a little sleepish. Intense at times and nonsense most of the times. If you like 9 1/2 weeks, Wild Orchid and the like then you will love this one (all of these movies are pretty much the same story line, dialog etc...) other wise watch "The Tango Lesson" also set in Paris the real Paris not Prague dressed up as in this movie. The Tango Lesson is more insightful intelligent just as stylish and what this movie could have been. I still like this movie it gives me ideas for my next commercial project.
