Dragon (2006)
A poor try
This movie lacks just about everything as expected from a good movie, or even a decent one. To be nice: not very good acting, script, music or effects. The whole movie shrieks of "Hey, I got some money to spend
let's try and make a rip-off of Tolkien". One thing they copied directly from the footage of the Trilogy was the vast air shots showing the nature scenery and mountains, think I counted to five or six of those.
Alright, it's fantasy
but with a dragon looking like it's made with play-doh and dark elves looking like, I don't know what, I suggest you go see another movie or buy a good book by R.A Salvatore (at least you get to picture the monsters yourself and not seeing them like this).
To sum it up, a complete waste of time
and money!
An Angel for May (2002)
A must see for everyone
A young boy travels back in time to WWII and meets a young girl with some serious problems.
Show on Swedish television as a child TV-series.
I actually love this movie, it got all ingredients needed. An excellent cast, with lovely performances from Charlotte Wakefield as May and Matthew Beard as Tom. A great story that sweeps you off your feet (I have a soft spot for "but-what-happens-in-the-future-if-he-does-that-now" movies).
It's the small things, the details that make this movie awesome. And even though I've seen it three times now, I still get teary eyes and all warm and cuddly inside seeing it.
Lost in Translation (2003)
Not a total waste of time, but close.
The first question that pops into mind, after seeing this, is: "How the heck did she get that Oscar?" Then I realize that it's because of her surname and that if her name would have been Joan Smith or something like that, she wouldn't even get nominated.
Yet, this is not a total waste of time (even though it is very close). The movie is very subtle and with a toned down tempo; the main characters are well played by both Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray. But I think that Ms. Coppola missed out of something when writing this.
Both main characters are like zombies in a world filled with pastiche-like technology freaks. The only times the characters live up in any way are when they met each other and not even then do they really come alive. During the entire movie I found myself thinking "Come on, do something". Nothing happened, so I waited for some kind of action from the characters but the lack of this was total. The only reaction in the whole movie was when Charlotte cried after a hug from Mr. Harris.
Ms. Coppola has taken the dramaturgical model and made it extremely small in this movie and it was a good try, but it becomes boring and does not give anything to the viewers.
Pumpkin (2002)
Plastic yet cute
The movie felt stale and like plastic and so did the acting in it. The directors Anthony Abrams and Adam Larson Broder has done a terrible job or they wanted the acting in it to be as mentioned. The world in the movie felt surreal, like in a plastic bubble and the supporting cast didn't do much to aid in the performance except for Hank Harris and Brenda Blethyn (the only two that felt like real people in the movie). Yet, if you are looking for a movie that doesn't say much, but is kind of cute then this one's for you.
