Kath & Kim (2002)
So very very funny
Man I love this show. It's just the best! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a second series will be hitting our screens soon. I don't know how well this comedy would translate to people overseas but I'm betting it would do well in England. My grandmother is a real old English lady of 84 and she adores the show. Aussie comedy at its best.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Enjoyable, visual treat but pity about the love story
I enjoyed Attack of the Clones and as far as entertainment goes it was a great deal better than Episode One. I'm not the type for person to enjoy a movie simply for it's special effects however I had to admire the visually gorgeous treat before my eyes. The story also had a fair bit of punch, energy and humour which helped carry its more chunkier moments.
The number one problem I have with this movie is the tepid and contrived love story. It was soooo painful at times and the dialogue has got to be some of the worst I have heard in movie history. I was cringing. There was barely a spark of real energy or romance between the two leads. It played out like a seriously bad teen soap. It's a real shame because there was much to be admired in Attack of the Clones. I liked most of the movie and if the love story was handled better it may have lifted it from a good movie to a great one!
Hayden Christenson performed strong in parts and it was easy to see the makings of the future Darth Vader in some of the darker scenes. I was just glad that this time around Anakin had some of the presence you would expect from a future Vader.
All in all, despite some serious flaws that threaten to sink the movie at times, it manages to rise above these to give us a couple of hours of worthy entertainment.
The Secret Life of Us (2001)
Pretty good
I wasn't that interested in this show. The previews didn't appeal to me that much but after watching an episode because I was bored one night and there was nothing else on TV I found myself being drawn in. There's something refreshing about this show and it has a certain edge to it. There's very few shows I will watch on a regular basis but it looks like the secret life of us will be one of them!
Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)
Loved it!!!!
A very funny, warm and delightful romantic comedy. I had a wonderful time and was totally entertained when I saw Bridget Jone's Diary. Now I'm looking forward to reading the book which if the movie is anything to go by should be a blast!!!
Noah's Ark (1999)
Historical inaccuracies aside, this is still one BAD show!
This is one of the worst mini-series I have ever seen on TV. I sat through the first half hoping it would improve but it only went from bad to worse. Needless to say I could not bring myself to sit through the torture of a second nights viewing. What was Jon Voight thinking when he made this?????
Bedazzled (2000)
A bit of fun and a good laugh!
While this movie had plenty of weak points and a ho hum ending it didn't stop me from having a good laugh. Brendan Frazer does a wonderful turn as the hapless Elliot and truly shows us how much talent he has. It's worth seeing Bedazzled just for his performance alone. He had me, my mother and sister all laughing our heads off in the cinema. I haven't seen the original so there was no disappointments in that respect. Definitely worth a look if you want to watch something lighthearted and humorous. Leave the critic at the door and you should have a good time.
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
Mission Improbable
I rented this movie with three other people and we ended up laughing at it. If it wasn't for the fact that we were all having fun laughing at it, I would have turned it off or fallen asleep. There was NO chemistry between our two romantic leads and some of those corny lines would have done quite well in a daytime soap opera. We all concluded it was the worst movie we had seen in awhile (but at least we got a laugh out of it).
Also that ridiculous mask swapping business, this was asking us to suspend disbelief a tad too much. "Hey I need to imitate the bad guy, I'll just use the fully realistic latex masks I happen to be carrying of both the villain and myself"..geeeesh..The action scenes were good I must admit especially the bike scenes but sadly they could not save the movie. The rest was just too bad. As far as I'm concerned all the special effects in the world won't save a movie if the script, plot, storyline and acting are terrible and believe me all of these were terrible in MI:2.
Farscape: Premiere (1999)
Great show!!
I love this show! Sadly here in Australia they haven't been very consistent with the viewing schedule, it's been on and off the air since the show started in Australia with gaps of weeks and months between episodes. It's now back on the air and so far so good.
The characters have a great chemistry. The show has plenty of fresh and original aspects and those idea's that have been around awhile are presented in a manner that is unique. This show is highly entertaining, it's great fun, full of drama, romance, thrills spills and much much more. It's also a great fix for a sci-fi addict like myself. I also love the puppetry from Jim Hensons workshop.
