War of the Worlds (2005)
As usual, the original movie rules, the remake is totally lame
Two words: Lameous Maximus. While the invading aliens have developed technology capable of destroying earth and disabling nearly all of mans technology, the complex inner-workings of the common camcorder elude even the most brilliant alien scientists.
Why should the aliens use their latest greatest alien technology to attack earth when they can bury million year old technology in the earth and dig it up when they get to our planet. This is sort of like the US air force leaving their F-16's and stealth fighters at home when they fight abroad so they can dig up some old biplanes that have been buried for one hundred years.
Insignificant Technical Note: Man didn't inhabit the earth a million years ago when they buried the machines. But, maybe the aliens didn't want to attack the crocodiles and alligators so they decided to wait?
Oh NO
here come the aliens
they are destroying the city. I can: 1. Leave the city and hide in the country? Nope
too obvious. 2. Go underground and hide in the city? Nope
the subways can be dangerous. 3. Board a large well lighted ship that is loaded with people and surrounded by alien tripods of death. YES!
Oh NO
here come the aliens
they are destroying the army. However, I know that even though our latest missile technology bounces off their tripods like BB's, I can destroy the aliens and their indestructible tripods of death with nothing but my bare hands.
Now, the best part of the movie, when the kid refuses to listen to Tom Cruise and charges into the oncoming tripods of death, a cheer comes from the audience and cry of: Death to the IDIOT! The crowd was fed-up with the lame humans and had begun rooting for the aliens.
Lick the Star (1998)
Excellent Short Film
This film reminds all of us over 20 what a pretentious and callous world revolves around the average junior high school student. In this case, an attractive and popular female teen exhorts a group of her peers to embark on a mission to poison certain boys in her class. After an initial period of bonding, the group forms a club of secrecy which revolves around a tattoo with a very special meaning, and with a sufficient dose of prodding from the leader, they set out to accomplish the mission. However, they soon find that there is no such thing as a secret amongst students in a junior high school. Filmed in black and white this movie is well directed and never lacks for maintaining ones interest.

Cool Independent Movie
If you enjoy offbeat independent filmmaking then you will definitely enjoy this film. The part of Max Cohen is played to perfection as a paranoid genius that is obsessed with finding fundamental patterns in nature. Strangely enough (especially to the mathematically inclined) he finds his evidence for such a pattern in the stock market. The cinematography for this film is excellent as grainy black and white scenes in the movie are intermixed with violent epileptic seizures, which closely resemble a Nine-Inch Nails video. I also loved the dialog scenes between Max and his mentor Sol which are highly influenced by scenes in Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. Fine film. Cool ending.
20 Dates (1998)
20 Dates is funny
Having read several of the previous comments I would only add that 20 Dates is about as serious a dating documentary as Woody Allen's Take the Money and Run is a documentary on crime in America. That said, this is a very funny movie. In the opening scene Berkowitz makes a statement to the effect of: This film documents my two biggest failures in life: My private life... and my professional life... It was at that point that I began to suspect that this was not a serious documentary... and once you look at the film for what it is... it is really quite humorous... reminds me a lot of Woody Allen's early work.
