Swades (2004)

One of the best films of the year.

Saw it last night with a packed cinema and I must say Ashutosh Gowariker has done it again. Nice storyline, little slow but he knows how to make a thoughtful film. Really made me think about being an NRI.

Great songs, with A.R Rahman Music of course. The actress Gayatri Joshi played her part very well and she looks very beautiful. Definitely a new star. Shah Rukh Khan well is Shah Rukh Khan, one of the best actors of our times and he can play pretty much any part.

Best film of the year. Watch it and it will make you think.

Its not a masala movie.Intelligent and Thought Provoking. 10/10

American Desi (2001)

One of the best Desi Films

I just saw this film again and I must say, it is amazingly brilliant. This is a film which you can watch again and again. Very clever, sterotypical obviously but its all in good humour. I was looking through the other reviews here and people need to understand that this is a comedy and it should be treated as such.

Great acting and great music - works so well. Pure entertainment. 10/10

Chicago (2002)

An amazing experience

I just saw this movie last night and I must say I was very impressed. Beautifully filmed, well-acted, and smartly directed. Catherine Zeta-Jones is stunning as Velma from the very beginning, singing "All That Jazz". Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere are also very good. I never knew they could sing and dance so well. It was a great thing to see and listen to. The song "Cell Block Tango" is the highlight of the film. One of the best choreographed sequences I have had the pleasure of watching.

What really shines is the overall look of the film. Paced perfectly and all the songs just work so well with the overall style of the film. I have not seen the original stage version so I am not going to compare but on its own merits I must say this is one of the best musicals I have ever seen.

Overall, I would recommend this film to musical lovers and cinema lovers. A perfect film!

Spirited Away (2001)

A great film

Amazing, thats the word for spirited away. Hayao Miyazaki has done a great job. The animation is so realistic, its perfect. The main characters are all 3 dimensional. You actually feel for them. Thats the power this film has. Lot of important messages for everyone here and one of the best anime films ever.

The Guru (2002)

A Brilliant Comedy

This movie had me laughing a lot. A wonderful comedy with a mixture of bollywood and hollywood. Amazing songs used in this movie which work wonderfully. This movie does not take itself seriously at all which makes the movie work. Jimi Mistry is wonderful, great job, he had the part right on.

Its not a perfect film but it is entertaining and if you want to laugh, This is the film for you. Definately in my top 10 for 2002

Blue Crush (2002)

awesome surfing photography

It's the awesome surfing photography bringing you right into the huge waves that gives Blue Crush the status of being one of the summer's most pleasurable movies.

Weak story - who cares? It was typical and easy to guess. BUT great photography, wicked performances, and a rocking soundtrack make it a brilliant movie. 9/10

Insomnia (2002)

Very good film noir thriller

Excellent film by Christopher Nolan. Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hillary Swank show their acting talents to the fullest. The story was a little slow and the ending was an easy way out but still the strong acting, awesome cinamtography and excellent score make up for that.

I gave it 8/10

Company (2002)

One of the best hindi movies i have ever seen

This is a stunning film, awesome story, acting and music makes this one of the most enjoyable movies i have ever seen - hindi or english. The performances are excellent, with special mention to the new actors- Vivek Oberoi and Antara Mali, who played their parts with such expertise and conviction.

Monsters, Inc. (2001)

The best movie of the year so far

Monsters, Inc. shows how pixar studios is one of the best animation studios around. From the awesome graphics to the highly original story, this movie is one great laugh-about. During the whole presentation were unstoppable laughs from the whole audience. Excellent voice acting to the really funny scences make this film already recomended.

From Hell (2001)

ok film with some flaws

this was an allright film with some wonderful choreography and location sets - very authantic. Heather Graham and Johny Depp are not the right people for the characters. Their accents are terrible. The storyline is a little but too contrived and does try to shock you as there really are some gory scenes which help the movie a lot. If you are a fan of this type of a film - go watch it othervise wait for the video/dvd

Scrubs (2001–2010)

Awesome comedy show

Scrubs shows how a hospital comedy can become so effective. An excellent mix of characters with some really funny scenes. Witty scripts also help the show. After Frasier it is the perfect show to watch.

More people should watch it.

The Musketeer (2001)

Enjoyable flick but dont get too hyped up

The musketeer is a period action drama using the three musketeers by Alexander Dumas as its background. The story is not written very well nor is the direction of the fight sequences as the camera is always to close or it has been shot in too dark conditions. The fight sequences are excellent and some of them are really innovative. I would only watch the film for these sequences. The acting is average, nothing home to write about with only Tim Wroth providing enough justice as the evil guy. Dont get your hopes up and only watch the movie as a cheesy kung fu 3 musketeers.

What's the Worst That Could Happen? (2001)

interesting but could have been better

typical martin lawrance film, interesting script. All of the actors performed quite well. Some of the jokes I did not get. The movie starts out slow and improves to the conclusion. If you are a fan of martin lawrance movies, Watch IT! othervise go and see John Leguizamo as he steals the show.

An excellent film, not historically accurate, extremely cheesy lines, very predictable but an absolute blast to watch. Excellent soundtrack and awesome camera work. If you want to see a really fun movie. Watch this!!

Driven (2001)

OK film but should have been better

Nice action sequences and car chases. The movie tries to display the excitement of formula one racing but does not capture the physical and mental difficulties of the movie. Character development is terrible. All the major leads are one dimensional with hardly any emotion displayed. Excellent soundtrack but that does nothing to save this disappointing film. Watch it with a lot a friends, you'll need their support.
