A Home of Our Own (1993)
One of the Best Films I've Seen in a Very Long Time
As usual, Kathy Bates is outstanding in her performance.
There aren't many movies that get to me emotionally, but this one sure did. I found myself identifying with more than one character: As a single mother, it wasn't hard at all to relate to Frances' struggles. As a former willful but loving teenager, I sympathized a lot with Shane, too.
I felt myself sharing the family's joys, struggles and disappointments, and learned a few things along the way. Sometimes it's true that pride goeth before a fall.
A very believable plot and great acting throughout, this is a must-see movie.
After the Harvest (2001)
Was Pleasantly Surprised
Bought this movie out of a $5.50 bin at WalMart, expecting it to be "so-so". Ended up liking it quite well! Although situations are predictable, the acting is good and the storyline moves along at a fast enough pace to keep you interested. Recommend!
Stand by Me (1986)
A Top Favorite!
One of the best movies ever - one that just about anyone can identify with. Four boys, a mission, and fun AND terror along the way. Because I'm an "old fogey" from the 50's, I could readily identify with and appreciate many of the aspects in this movie, the music being foremost!
I would HIGHLY recommend this film; I've just about worn out my tape!
A Christmas Story (1983)
One of my all-time favorites!
Definitely a movie worth watching, then watching again. Nostalgic, funny, heart-warming, appealing to all ages and ADDICTIVE pretty much sum it up. The plot is excellent and the acting is wonderful. Not just "A Christmas Story", this movie is fun to watch any time of the year. Worth checking out!
