Actors are good, although wasp Karen Julia is unlikeable, as intended no doubt, but come on, there's a disaster that knocks out satellites but no one thinks to grab a radio to get news or alerts? And the shop that is scuppered on the beach, don't ships have horns? And what happened to all the people running on the beach? I watched it but cannot say I enjoyed it. I keep trying to find a deeper meaning to the words and expressions but cannot fathom what the writer/s, director's intentions are. Lots of screechy music and discordant tones, which do induce anxiety, but there doesn't seem to be a point to anything. Maybe that is the point, our lives are mostly full of pointless nothings?

I saw this film when I was living in Japan and have always remembered it and looked to purchase it but have never ever been able to find it. I could never understand why this film didn't get more well known in USA. I am still wanting to see this again.

Heavily Promoted but Not as Riveting as The Dawn Wall

I have watched The Dawn Wall and Free Solo several times, one both. Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold are the greatest in their respective fields. As far as documentaries go, however, The Dawn Wall is far more engaging and spectacular, it only lacked the promotion that Free Solo received. I agree with other commenters that the girlfriend was annoying - Alex ascends El Cap - face transfigured by happiness - he talks to her and her comment 'no more you're done now right?' Why be with a climber and try to limit their climbing? Anyway - I think a better climbing film of Alex is the Reel Rock series of Alex and Tommy on the Fitz Roy range in South America.
