Evil (2019)
Just finished the first season
Well, I love Mike Coulter, and wanted to love this show , but I couldn't.
1. The story is all over the place, which is fine if you were to binge watch this on Netflix, but I had trouble remembering tiny details weeks later when they were mentioned again. Even when characters and cases were mentioned again, no one really talks about the connections between each piece, it's just a flashback to a previous episode. I'm an educated person, and can figure out what's going on, but I enjoy interaction and discussion between characters more than just flashes of pictures and people.
2. What woman would choose to have 4 kids back-to-back with a man who is never around?
3. Why does the show have 4 kids? I never even knew their names because they never had an opportunity to do more than yell at the same time.
4. Time inconsistencies.
Roswell, New Mexico (2019)
If you can get through the first episode, it's a fun show
I almost turned this off halfway through the pilot, but if you stick it out, it gets better.
A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby (2019)
Silly, fun Christmas trilogy
These movies aren't great, but they're super fun, and totally in keeping with this genre. They're Christmas romance, and they're not pretending to be more than that. Just pop some popcorn, snuggle up with a blanket, and enjoy. Sure, the lighting is terrible, the makeup artist made Rose McIver look like she was back on iZombie, and the acting was completely stiff, but anyone who appreciates cheesy holiday movies will love it.
I also have total respect for a woman who allows her husband's family, staff, and visiting royalty into her bedroom while she's in labor. 😂😂😂
Carnival Row (2019)
Wow, what a ride
I loved the first season of Carnival Row! Faeries, Streampunk, and Orlando Bloom, what more can you ask of a show? OB was great in this role, dark, brooding, and sexy. It's a really immersive experience, in a world like ours, but not quite. The filming was beautiful, but dark, the costumes were gorgeous, but believable. I was throughly entertained. I did think the first episode didn't immediately hook me, but once I got through that one, I wanted to binge the rest. Yes, the show makes a political statement, but the themes of racism and persecution are not new to society.
Dirty Dancing (2017)
One Star is Generous
I love Dirty Dancing, and while I knew this would be terrible, I watched it anyway. Without going into details, they took the original, made the love story boring and unbelievable, and added several side stories that were unnecessary. In the end, it's the quality of a movie on SYFY, but without any hilarious monsters.
Maniac (2018)
A Wild, But Fun Ride
Is Maniac the greatest show I've ever seen? No. However, it was a lot of fun. Jonah Hill and Emma Stone were fantastic, and I loved the neo-80s feel.
