Survivor (2000)
No more returning players please.
I like the show but I'm really getting tired of players coming back again. I just want a few seasons of complete newbs so I can relate to them and not have to hear about how they played on season whatever and who knows who, etc. I know 39 was newbs but they still managed to work in Rob and Sandra. Unfortunately the casting fell through on that one and the cast was a dud. I would like to think everyone is on an even playing ground and playing for the reality of affecting their lives rather than another million or 2. And definitely no celebs. Geesh.
The Curse of Civil War Gold (2018)
Failed spinoff of Oak Island
Sad excuse for a treasure hunt show. While it has curse in the title, there has been no mention of any curse. At least Oak Island has a supposed curse though they admit they have no idea to it's origin. The whole story relies on circumstantial evidence to which the cast jumps to whatever conclusion is necessary for their theory rather than exploring other possible explanations. Some guys pushed a boxcar of gold off a ferry at night and a lighthouse operator saw it and they think they've found it miles from the lighthouse. No way. Every time the go out to dive in the site they complain about the waves being too high and they show some stock footage of waves breaking on a pier but the boat is always sitting in calm waters. I have less than 100 dives and have been in far rougher seas.
They have one experienced diver find the site but then they need to bring in some other more experienced diver to do the same? Then it turns out the gold bricks they found are fake. And who but them knows where they are and could have faked them? Conspiracy theories abound but the truth is they put them there themselves.
The Curse of Oak Island (2014)
Interesting story destroyed by repetitive canned narration.
I'd give the story 8-9 stars but the production is just awful. Hey Rick, step on that rock over there. "A rock? On Oak Island? Could this be a rock stepped on by renowned pirate John Laffete? Or slept on by the Knights Templar who may have brought treasure from Jerusalem like the Arc of the Covenant? Or maybe it was used in writing the Magna Carte, or to identify the location of other buried treasure?..." Criminies.
And next time you go diving in a murky hole you think is connected to the sea, maybe a good idea to pump a 100K gallons of clean water in first? Just sayin...
